[UK Reform] All these principles but the handbags keep piling up

Day 1,888, 11:08 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Sir Humphrey Appleby

Welcome to the eUK :3

Good evening all o/

As the snowy weather grips most of the country, a similarly frosty atmosphere exists between the political establishments of our national community. However, it will be a point of this term to openly strive to improve our relationships with other parties - the important thing is that this needs to be genuine; and any overture made needs to be backed by solid steps of action. We have opened with a rather positive welcoming from other party administrations; and with these come opportunities to mutually make amends and struggle together in our national interests.

Congress

We have had a number of offers from parties all over the political spectrum to run with them for Congress, and should be voting on which proposal soon. If you are interested in running for Congress then either drop me a message here or post so on our party subforums. We will be aiming to get a good mix of new and old alike in for this parliamentary term to help mentoring, so give it a shot :3.

Policy

We do not necessarily have to surrender our distinct policy in order to defrost relationships with newer parties. Far from it – we need to demonstrate that what we say has some ground and show for all to see that it works and it worth giving a punt. So with that in mind, I give you the rough minutes of our earlier party meeting :3

Military

We still support a national fighting spirit in our military campaigns, even if a national military itself isn't possible. We support the direct communication with fighters, particularly in the case of orders. Whilst we believe in more strikes, we also believe in a responsible hand on the tiller when it comes to how much of the country's coffers are burnt on a single battle. We furthermore believe that militias should focus not necessarily on party recruitment, but on the retention of the community it supports.

One way of helping co-ordinate how our damage is used is having different IRC rooms from each division for people in that division to idle in and wait for orders. This would make the considerable number of citizens the eUK has on IRC more effective in their use of damage. We additionally support more measures to help captains co-ordinate their damage in unison as well; within the framework of operation that militia chooses to have.

Foreign Affairs

The key approach to foreign affairs is an element of mutual respect. Though our allies expect our support, we should still maintain a polite and active line of communication with our considered enemies. At a time when the eUK’s image is under considerable damage, a reconciliatory and measured reestablishment of careful diplomacy is called for. This includes the refrainment of idly attacking smaller neighbours, which causes considerable damage to a collateral number of other states.

A strong ambassadorial programme and apprenticeship scheme in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is key to helping more new faces represent our country in the global community. Furthermore, the accumulation of soft power is instrumental in making up for the rather limited hard power that our small community provides.

Economics

Whilst we agree with the principle of lower taxes and burdens on everyday citizens, this should not be at the expense of economic common sense or a blind willingness to sleepwalk into bankruptcy. Thus we promote the concept of responsible taxes with effective rebates where appropriate to help stimulate the national war effort and aid our newer players. Nevertheless, any economic policy needs to be aligned with a careful eye on our capacities in terms of reserves and the threat of a heavily rainy day.

Communication and the Forums

As a libertarian party, we will impose no requirements on any member to join IRC or the forums. This does not necessarily mean that we avoid the benefits of such methods of communication. The organisational benefits of both aspects add entirely new dimensions of discussion and action for the game and, far from removing content from the game, serves as an active generator of change and reform for our community.

Government & Congress

We support a strong independent Congress, but also one which is prepared to play it's role of loyal opposition and of holding the government to account where needed. Within this needs to be a responsible maintenance of our citizenship borders, the ruin of which spells a ruin of the entire country (similar to the US). Whilst independent, Congress needs to work within some framework of guidelines in order to sufficiently operate. This needs to be a format agreed by parties and congress as a whole, and is an important step in the process of trying to collectively function as a working community. Any divisions are entirely mental, and can be resolved reasonable between parties working mutually in the interests of the eUK.

Government needs to be simplified, with citizens more able to work and participate with how their community is run. This can be achieved through a single workforce and apprenticeship system, allowing the often enormous task of government to fall on flexible and capable hands. Instead of knocking the whole system down at the end of a month, and going through the motions of having everyone reapply - this allows the functions of government to continue to steam on in accordance with the amount of time and effort the community itself has to offer, rather than a disintegrating administration. Policy changes can be enacted just as easily as before; however, the experience and reliability to which these changes can be performed will necessarily be improved.

Let people do the work they have time for and have the free choice of. Making arbitrary divisions for what is quite often similar jobs is an unnecessary barrier to helping people run their own government.

Yours,

Appleby
