[UK GOV] UK – Alliances and our status

In the last couple of days we have seen propaganda from Teden Trolls and some new citizens claiming that leaving ONE is the best the solution for UK.

Foreign Office decided to write an article explaining differents alliances and current UK status



First of all : what is an alliance in Erepublik ?
An alliance is a group of countries who have formed a military alliance with each other to offer each other protection.

What are the advantages of being in an alliance ?

If you remain neutral or without friends , the day another country (with its allies) decides to attack you ,I hope that you will have enough tissues to cry about your lot.
So, being in an alliance will give you the help of countries who are allied with your country. In cases when you are invaded they can directly help you.
Another advantage is that you receive help from all the armed forces of a country : which means the national army and other military units.

What are the disadvantages of being in an alliance ?

None would be a false answer, however the benefits far outweigh the costs. But in an alliance you are not the only country there. If another country needs help against an opponent, your country may have a lower priority



What are the current alliances ?

I will begin with the oldest one : EDEN



EDEN was formed almost 2 years and half ago.
EDEN means Erepublik Defence & Economy Network
This alliance mostly contains countries who had Anti PEACE (and Phoenix) sentiments.

They were involved in several attacks against the United Kingdom. The UK considers them as enemies.

Major members of EDEN include : Croatia – Romania – Bulgaria – Greece – China – Canada – Finland
Recently, EDEN created a junior alliance composed of Netherlands – India – Albania, known as the Garden of EDEN. (GEA)

2 Months ago : Portugal (a former friend of UK and member of PEACE and Phoenix) joined EDEN.
Currently : they have several problems, Turkey (who defected to EDEN) have tried to join them. However, Bulgaria has floated its veto causing a lot of problems.

Terra


No acronym for this alliance.

The alliance was created late of 2010 after the fall of Phoenix.
At the beginning, their name was Panam and they were composed by Usa – Brazil (who left Phoenix) – Argentina (who left Phoenix too) to create an alliance mainly located in America.

At that time, USA feared to be invaded tried to recruit some countries to protect them. They found some cannon fodder called France – United Kingdom – Germany – Japan.

Countries like Russia and Chile followed USA and of course like a 51st state : Canada joined this alliance..
This alliance works with Eden which means that Eden and Terra countries must be friends.
However 2 or 3 months after joining them : United Kingdom realized that Terra wasn't for good for the country.

Even in different alliances, we were forced to be friends with Ireland which was almost impossible. Others countries could change their regions (USA offered some resources to Canada, ...) but United Kingdom can't. When we decided to have fruits to Ireland. USA preferred to help a country who wasn't in the alliance (Ireland) than one who was with them.

On the same time, the UK had a deal with Serbia and even if Terra said that they respected it : USA and Croatia made their best to kill it (the deal gave 2 UK regions to Serbia in exchange of 250G per month + a free MPP (who cost 100G at that time))

Last thing about Terra : They work actively With Eden

ONE



Which means Order of New Eworld
The alliance was created on the beginning of 2011 when Poland began to have better relations with Hungary. Even if these 2 countries are near in real life, they were opposed in erepublik.
Following that, Hungary and Poland had the desire to invade an EDEN country, Romania.

After the fall of Phoenix, Serbia decided to join this new block and they were followed by Spain (who left EDEN for ONE).
A few weeks later : Republic of Macedonia and Sweden joined them and ONE was officially created.

Around ONE, there were a lot of countries who were (and are) considered as Pro-ONE like Indonesia – Slovenia – Iran – Slovakia ... and United Kingdom

After leaving Terra, UK began to be a pro-ONE country by signing MPPs with their old friends like Serbia – Slovenia – Indonesia – Macedonia, ...

With diplomacy, problems with old enemies like Poland and Spain were resolved and they became friends of the UK.

On November 2011 : Indonesia was the 7th country to join ONE and some weeks after 3 new countries joined the alliance : United Kingdom – Slovenia – Iran

Which stands for Alliance of Baltic Countries
This alliance was created in April 2011 and is composed of 3 countries : Lithuania – Estonia – Latvia.
It is a regional alliance and even if they are not in ONE, they are considered as Pro-ONE countries. They are also friends of United Kingdom

EPIC



Which stands for Erepublik Partnership of Interdependent Countries
This alliance was created last week and they are composed of Mexico – Montenegro – Slovakia (CSFR) – New Zealand – Pakistan – South Korea – Thailand – Venezuela – Peru – Paraguay and United Arab Emirates

These countries are not the biggest but they preferred to built an alliance against the tyranny of Terra and Eden. Even if they are not officially Pro-One : They prefer to sign MPPs with ONE countries than being Terra and Eden slaves. United Kingdom has MPPs with several of these countries (Like New Zealand – Montenegro and Slovakia)



Before finish this article, I will talk about the UK’s Status

Currently, we are in ONE, and the current government has no intention in leaving this alliance. Even if sometimes, we need more help , which we received from them when we tried to have a congress, we received support for our plans, but like I said, we are not alone in an alliance. Other ONE countries need help too.

When we were invaded by Terra and Eden forces : we were invaded on 3 fronts at the same time and even for a big country like Serbia or Poland, it is very hard to win all those battles.

Even if it will not be easy to have our all of our regions back our chances without ONE are near 0%
Joining Terra and Eden are impossible for UK : Our enemies are there. Joining an alliance means that every country of this alliance must accept us.
Eden : We have problems with Croatia – Ireland – Canada
Terra : We have problems with USA – Canada – France – Germany

Thinking that joining another alliance will give us back our regions is an error.

Due to real life issues, Ireland thinks that Northern Ireland is one of their original regions (they wrote to admin about that). It is a main source of our problem with them. They always blame the UK for the conflict but their congress wants war with us

Canada : They want a route to oil, preferring to invade UK via the following route : Wales – West Midlands – East Midlands to have it than rent Alaska from the USA. Always good to attack UK when we sleep but it is unfair if we attack when they sleep.

France : they need Aluminium, Cattle and Oil, that's why they have 3 UK regions (including London). Like Canada, they prefer to keep London than renting an Aluminium region from Germany. Former friends who drank Terra and Eden Propaganda. Recently they decided to consider South of England as French Territories and rename London. After betraying the UK, they decided to invade us. Our current conflict is unlikely to be solved through diplomacy in the near future.
