[UK First] All You Need To Know; eUK History

A proud eCountry, and one of the few that has never, ever been wiped off the map, the eUK is a vast and amusing country to be a part of, if you chat in the right places with the right people. The eUK has also meant I have met other people in other places. Now, wanna know more? Wanna know what you need to know, in one article? I'll try!



It seems funny to many new players that we aren't aligned with the Americans and Canadians. This dates back to July 2009. The United Kingdom were, prior to this, part of an alliance known as ATLANTIS; this did include such nations as Canada, USA and Poland. However, after internal warring between members (with Germany being attacked by fellow members Sweden and Poland), ATLANTIS was declared dead, and the United Kingdom was left neutral, eventually to join the PEACE alliance.

Then, along came the proposal of Fortis. This was an alliance to succeed ATLANTIS, compromised of USA, Canada, Spain, Ireland and the UK. However, certain elemets inside the proposal intended to have weighted voting, heavily aiding the USA to have their say the focus. This meant that the UK and Ireland, followed by Spain, dropped out. Conflict between USA and UK leadership and publics, whereby the UK was called such things as "allies on paper only" meant that the UK were not overly keen on remaining in allegiance with the USA.

It was decided in July 2009 to have a Training War with Hungary, who conquered Scotland as part of this. Scotland remained under Hungarian control, in return for a high quality Hospital which was used to heal citizens (in v1, hospitals had slightly different functions for the population). This debate was brought up to Congress on the 1st of July, 2009. Hungary took Scotland on the 10th of July. France attacked Canada on the 13th July, and region swapped (another v1 concept) the eUK into Canada to hold onto certain regions to aid the invasion. I am actually unclear as to the exact date the eUK joined PEACE, but was a part of it for the massive North American invasion in which we helped to wipe out numerous of our former allies whom turned their backs on us, and in which the USA were knocked down to just one region.

It remained a member of PEACE until November 2009, by which point the alliance had been effectively killed and broken apart by conflict and by lack of energy and focus. Plans were already afoot for a new alliance that the eUK would be a part of. Phoenix was formed and the eUK became a member on the 6th December, 2009. Many key eUK individuals such as Mr Woldy and Iain Keers were involved in its formation, and eUK members remain integral to it today.

The eUK has twice been invaded on a large scale (and at the time of writing, we are currently in the midst of a third with Canada occupying much of our nothern country). The first time was in January 2010, when we were brought down to a battle for London to save our independence. Needless to say, we won and eventually, peace was signed by then President Dishmcds and Minister of Foreign Affairs, GLaDOS. This meant we got all of our nation back, and we kept peace. For a while. We were once more invaded in August 2010, on the back of a spate of hackings in the eRepublik network. This led to the resignation of a burnt out President, John Bartlett and then the next (and current) President, jamesw to fight back and make the eUK whole again.



In the eUK, there is politically a strong rivalry between The Unity Party and the United Kingdom Reform Party.

The UKRP was founded in December 2007 to rival a party setup by a gaming forum that had joined eRepublik called the 313 group. It was set up by Shadowukcs (tip; if you hear someone called a butt, this comes from Shadow) and quickly became powerful, winning and holding the presidential seat in January 2008. This was held by Kaleb for four terms, until Shadowukcs was then put into the seat of eUK Presidency to mark their fifth presidential term. The UKRP truly were the main winners in 2008, with such figures as jerryGFL and Dishmcds rising to prominence. It could be said that the UKRP had it all their own way until April 2009, where they decided not to run a candidate and TUP took the Presidency.

In May 2009, a figure called SaraDroz was elected President of the eUK with the support of both TUP and the UKRP, as the UKRP decided that it would be best to back the rival candidate - they did not have a suitable candidate. This term went spectaculary awry, with roadrunnerspeed taking the Bank of England and all of our funds, and making certain demands. One of these was to remove Goku Jones as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Another was to support Germany in the war that eventually broke ATLANTIS (see military for more details) and a further one was to put the military back under control of the Minister of Defense and to make funding more consistent. These demands were met, and the money returned, but this still made for a disastrous term. This term, however, seemed to bring the beggining of the end for UKRP power over the eUK political system.

It's worth pointing out what the other parties got up to whilst UKRP were having fun. TUP revelled under the leadership of Iain Keers and began to structure themselves into a political machine, slowly gaining on the UKRP. The People's Communist Party had long been in second place with a more centre left stance than their current political movement, however had never had massive success with their slightly off-stream appeal - they did, however, elect inconic presidents such as Ip Lockard and KIA Sneak. TUP had overtaken the PCP by mid-2009, and the PCP had been further beaten back by the Radical Freethinkers Alliance. This party was branded by Goku Jones after being created as part of Final Destiny's Presidential platform. He wanted to create a viable and non-partisan place to sit in the middle of the eUK's left wing/right wing divide. This party, with their memorable black and white union jack, took to third place and put PCP far into fourth at their best.

By October 2009, TUP were in charge. They had won every Presidency since SaraDroz, and had overtaken the UKRP to make themselves the largest political party in the eUK. Since the SaraDroz presidency, the eUK has only had four non-TUP elected Presidents; Dishmcds, GLaDOS, John Bartlett and myself, GGRyan. They had major political victories, and have put UKRP firmly into second place.



You may hear things that dont seem relevant anymore; things that you can no longer find. I'll detail a few of these key things.

House of Lords; this has turned into a key political victory for TUP and sealed them as number one in the Commons. The HoL had always been a longstanding element of the eUK, which allowed older and more experienced citizens to have their input in the House of Commons and the eUK legislative system without having the ingame restraint. This was abolished by a group led by Iain Keers, mainly left wing, and has remained closed ever since, to be replaced by present day Advisors.

NHS and Gifting; the eUK NHS was an old system put into place by Dishmcds, which worked in v1. In v1, there was such an item as gifts, which a player could send to another player to give them wellness, or "gift them up". This was easy to do, however changes to eRepublik game mechanics meant this was no longer possible.

Hospitals v1; back in v1, hospitals were placed in a region and had no durability. It would serve the citizens of a region, and give them a set amount of wellness back after they had fought. In numerous eUK regions, we had Q5 Hospitals. We would typically fight five times, losing ten wellness a fight, then click the heal button, and would have all our health replaced. After that, it would have to be replaced other ways.

The Military; the eUK has an ever changing military. I'm basically going to do my eLife for this bit, so for real old stuff, find a real old-timer. The eUK used to have its military under control of the Minister of Defence, who was selected as a Minister by the President. It used to be known as the eRoyal Navy, with an Air Force and Special Forces to supplement mobile and elite soldiers respectively. Changes in the game mechanics usually come with reforms and so the military has reached the point of the UK Army which we have today.
