[UK CP] End of an Era

Day 2,328, 14:32 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by 10 Downing Street

We have reached the end of another presidential term, so it’s time for me to conclude on the events of the past month. This has certainly been one of the busier months for the UK, as we have had to deal with multiple and simultaneous invasions and a PTO threat, on top of all the other issues this country faces. As I pack up my office and get ready for a transition of government, I must congratulate NWG on winning the election. He has provided a great service in my cabinet, and I am certain he will be successful as the new President of the United Kingdom.

Reflecting on the past month.

I will admit that coming into the presidency and seeing three countries attack at once, I thought this country would be wiped. But we defied expectations and were able to wipe out France and Moldova, and ultimately kick out Finland from our country as well without losing all our regions. This amazing feat could not have been accomplished with the help of our allies. Some people have been critical of the way I have handled battles, arguing that it is pointless to start battles at the end of the day in the UK, when everyone is going to sleep. But there is a logical reason behind this. With the battles with Finland, I have been around long enough to know that we actually do more damage compared to our opponents at night. How does this paradox work? Because Finland is slightly stronger than the UK alone. However, with MPPs taken into account, we are able to do more damage than the other side during our night. As a result, we have been successful in winning battles. I cannot stress enough the importance of working with our allies. As the saying goes, we either live together or die alone. I hope that clears a few things up.

Reinforcements from Sirius made victory against Finland possible.

As I write this article, there is a RW in Vestlandet. If we (as in the Norwegian resistance) win this, the border with Finland will close, ending the war and bringing peace to our land. I find this to be very symbolic. We started my term with the biggest military threat this country has faced in a very long time, and one month later, we end up united and with peace. This will allow us to return the favor to our Sirius allies by focusing on their fights as they did with us.

I am aware that I may not have been as active in the second half of my term as the first half. I am involved in some major real life stuff that has suddenly appeared and is highly time sensitive. I can’t say too much about it due to the legality of the situation, but let’s just say when you try to do the right thing in politics, your opponents will do whatever it takes to stop you. Saying this, I have been working hard behind the scenes, making sure our battles have run smoothly. The biggest effect was just not being able to write as many updates as I would have liked. And the government as a whole has been running very smoothly due to the stellar cabinet. I’ll let you in on a secret. During the first week as president, when I had to deal with three invasions and an impeachment, I was inactive that entire weekend. I was at a major political convention in Los Angeles. I live in Berkeley, California (next to San Francisco), so the journey itself is about the distance between London and Edinburgh. I had given my cabinet plenty of warning about my leave of absence, and they responded by making sure the country did not implode while I was gone.

Standing with the cabinet.

Finally, I want to say that this will be the penultimate article I will write, as I shall be retiring from eRepublik on Friday, April 11th. In my previous update, I mentioned that I will be revealing a post-presidential project known as Operation Golden Bear. That is still partially true. Without revealing too much, I can say that this project will help this country long after I am gone. Think of it as my parting gift to this country. In the meantime, I will work on the transition to the new government, making sure everything runs smoothly. My last article will be published sometime between 13:00 – 14:00 eRepublik time, or 9 - 10PM GMT on the 11th. I will be on IRC as always around this time, so we can say our final goodbyes then.

Time for me to make an exit.

It has been my pleasure and honor serving you as President. But as the last couple of weeks of my term suggested, real life is becoming too impacted for me to spend enough time on eRepublik. Instead of spending time on a virtual political career, it’s time for me to focus on my real life career of political activism. Thank you to everyone who made this term possible and my dream of becoming President of the United Kingdom a reality.
