[TWC] The Case of the Missing Bug

Day 2,431, 18:13 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Madelina de Melrose

It was a dark and stormy night.

The man from the Pest Control company peered through the raindrops, searching for clues. The biggest bug of all had not been seen for the past two days, and nobody knew where it had gone.

“There are no footprints, no signs of a break and entry, no clues whatsoever” said Barney from Bug-Out Pest Control. “I have no idea how something that flashy and loud could go so quiet and, well, hidden.”

“Have you checked the basements?” said his sidekick, Buddy. “I mean, there’s a whole lot of levels and sewers below ground where he could be hiding.”

“Hmmm…..,”said Barney. “You’re right about him probably descending to his natural level. But is there a level that low?”

Suddenly the man from the Council showed up, building plans rolled under his arm. “Here we go, then, you’ll get a kick out of this one. Seems there’s all sorts of little nooks and crannies and hidey-holes a bug could hide in. Why, he may have even gone into disguise like so many of his cronies!”

“You mean changing his name?” said Buddy.

“Well, that’s a good possibility,” admitted Barney. “After all, Dapper became You Can Call Me V became Sir Winston S Churchill. And the bug started off with another moniker as well, something about SWW. And because they spend good money on the game, the moderators seem to allow them to be several bugs all at the same time.”

So where was the big bug, we wondered. Did someone step on him? Was he so upset by his overwhelming loss in his bid for PP that he ran away? Or is he lurking somewhere deep in the sewers of the eUK?

Suddenly there was the blare of sirens. Behind the gathering crowd, the telly blared a special announcement from the Chairman of the Bank of England. “We’ve been robbed!” he cried. “The entire Treasury, all the money in the building societies and even the Crown Jewels are missing!”

Lurking in the depths of the foulest sewer, there came a chuckle. It was the sound of a very big, very bad bug, as he lugged the loot over to his buddies in Ireland…
