[TUP] First PP Announcement
CottonPicken
Hello,
Firstly I’d like to thank all of you who voted for me in the Party President Elections yesterday. My thanks also go to the other candidates who made this an exciting (and nerve wracking) experience. This is my first term as PP and I am motivated to push TUP further ahead but as this is a new experience for me I have decided to choose Nebojsa as my vPP. He has a wealth of experience in party and country politics so he will be a suitable support.
The main goal for the month ahead is to increase our party membership. Currently we have 207 members and I hope we will have grown from this at the end of my term. However over the last few months we have seen a steady decline in membership, not only in TUP but across other parties too. As this is the case I will consider any increase an achievement. I think that it would be silly to set unrealistic and unachievable goals. Retainment is just as important as recruitment because there is no point recruiting members if they are going to leave the next day. In my last article I stated my hopes for an increased usage of IRC, it is a great way to communicate with party members about political affairs or even just to get to know each other a bit better. This is more important in the game than some people realise because it helps you climb the political ladder that little bit faster. Kravenn who is famous for his guides has, after asking him just last night, created one to help you make your way to IRC. This can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/tuptutoirc
There will be more articles released shortly, one of them concerning congress. It is one of my wishes to communicate frequently with you all and be as active as possible this term - lets hope I can stick to this!
Thanks again.
Cotton

Great start Cotton, keep it up!
I'm not sure I agree..... campaigning on a platform to increase recruitment then backtracking on that commitment doesn't strike me as a great start......
I wouldn't say that I am backtracking on that commitment. I hope to have more members at the end of the term than at the start. I'm not going to promise unrealistic figures though and I never did that to begin with.
You sai😛
"Recruitment takes times and perseverance and different parties have different methods for recruiting. I believe that it is fundamentally the Party President’s job to recruit members to the party. For this reason I will not be leading any recruitment team this term but instead taking on the role myself."
I think there is a fundamental disconnect between what you said to get elected and what you are saying after you have been elected.
I don't see how there is. Would you like me to promise 250 members by the end of the term? I think that would be a little bit insincere. I'm trying to put a lot of effort into recruitment but if I didn't express myself clearly enough in this article then I apologise and I shall be more careful in future 🙂
You set the expectation that you will increase the membership. As soon as you are elected you back-track and say that you will consider "any" increase an achievement. I think you expressed yourself quite clearly in your article, I think you need to re-think your position and deliver on what you promised to get yourself elected.
It is early days yet, I have plenty of time to deliver on what I promised. 🙂
Vistulus, its just start of the term and she's new to these things and how the system as whole work. Place yourself in that position and you will see how hard it is to get new members without stealing it from other parties(/me waves to BigAnt). So lets wait and see what will happen, and nobody said that there wont be any recruited members during her term.
I'm happy to judge on results, but my point is don't go into elections promising that you are going to change something and then as soon as you are elected start putting the caveats in place.
If you think small you WILL deliver small. I agree that saying I will add 250 members is completely un-realistic but what's wrong with saying I will add at least 10 new members, then at least you have something for your term to be judged against.... Saying "any" increase is just political fudge and this party deserves better than that from its leadership.
We have had too many PP's recently who have been elected on a platform of increasing membership and have then done nothing in that area. Increasing membership is critical to the survival of the party and a commitment to it should be more than an electioneering slogan to be thrown in the bin once you have been elected.
I will stress this is my opinion and as I said at the start I am happy to judge CottonPicken on the results she will achieve in her term.
I was elected few months ago and i did promised i will increase membership but i did not exactly said how many i can bring. I did all i can to increase it even with new software(I have evidence in my Inbox how many msg's i have sent) but that does not mean you can get all members in a party.
So dont judge to early before anything is started yet 🙂
Seriously, and that makes it all ok does it? Frankly that is the issue too many recent candidates have been promising without delivering on those promises.
Being PP is a serious (full time) role, recruitment and membership is core to that role. In my view you don't stand for PP making recruitment one of the key areas you will address, then in your very first post election message put caveats around it.
I have already said I will judge at the end of the term, but that doesn't mean I will stop thinking and it doesn't mean I will refrain from commenting.
Would a daily screenshot of my inbox satisfy your concerns over my motivation?
How about you set yourself a realistic target, produce a plan showing how you intend to achieve your target and then publish an update on a regular basis, say weekly, throughout your term as to how you are progressing against your plan.
That way we all get to see what you are doing, you'll get buy-in and hopefully as you succeed people will be motivated, enthused and want to join in and help.
Have you been PP before? Thats all i want to ask you so you could understand me better.
No I haven't, but I don't see the relevance, what I am pointing out is that a commitment was made which was part of getting elected and then immediately after being elected an article was published back-tracking on that commitment. That is holding politicians to account for their commitments and that is the duty of EVERY voter.
I do understand that being PP is a hard, time consuming role, that requires a large commitment of time and effort from the successful candidate. That is why I have never stood as I can not give this party that commitment of time and effort due to my real life commitments.

I read the whole thing and the manifesto before it Vistulus and I don't see the problem in what he wrote?
Looks like he is off to a good start and being very informative. Last time I played properly I think that TUP had more members and was in second place, so if people are leaving then just recruiting enough to replace them is great work.
Looking at how some games companies are run, they don't talk to their users because of harsh reactions like that Vistilus. They are scared of the hostility. The best ones ignore it and carry on because the vast majority of people are not vocal but do appreciate the work.
So carry on Cotton!
Well I read this and I came to a different conclusion, personally I'm more than happy to accept that you read it and came to a different conclusion as you are perfectly entitled to your own opinion.
Where I do take issue is the accusation of "harsh reaction" and "hostility"..... Have I used abusive language, have I shouted, have I done anything other than point out that in "my view" a commitment that was made is not being followed through on? In fact I have done my best to help by making a suggestion as to how concerns could be allayed.
This is still a democratic party, am I not allowed to raise issues or have a debate without being accused of being harsh or hostile? I don't often get involved in these debates as I regard myself as one of the silent majority that you claim to represent but I am no longer willing to sit back and watch people make promises to get elected and then immediately back track on them as soon as they are elected.
You are free to say what you like.
You just come across in a very angry and hostile way and I didn't want Cotton to stop doing what he is doing because of it.
It was not my intention and I have re-read my posts and I can't see any parts of them that are angry and hostile. If there are examples I am happy to discuss and address but I think it is unfair to call a post hostile and angry just because it raises questions which need to be debated.
Should have elected MWC...
Vistulus is within his rights to question, but I personally don't see any contradictions that are so glaring as to be a case to raise complaints.
It would be different if Cotton did no work, but I have no doubt the work will be done considering who is the second chief recruitment person this month!
also cotton states that the main goal is recruitment, so, lets see how it plays out. Cotton acknowledges the reality of recruitment and how retention is just as important, personally I say we give her another day or so!
I generally agree, but I think it needs to be at least a couple of weeks to be fair.
