[TUP] Congress!
CottonPicken
Hello,
As you all know congress elections are approaching and I’d like to hear as soon as possible who is interested in taking a seat this term. TUP have a good reputation for activity in congress and I’d like to keep it that way. Therefore there will be a few things I will be looking for in order to consider you a candidate for congress.
You must try to be as active as possible in the community, on the forums and IRC. Issues have been raised recently concerning the effectiveness of the in-game mass pm’s. One problem being the amount of spam which wouldn’t be allowed to take place on the forums. Another problem is that two separate group messages have to be created so by using them you only hear half of congress’ opinions whereas free conversation can be seen by all members on the forums. There is no reason why people shouldn’t use the forums for congressional purposes as it doesn’t take long at all to make a profile and check it each day.
Therefore I would like all candidates to have a forum account and as I have mentioned in previous articles preferably on IRC as well. Here is a link to the forums in case anyone has not yet signed up: http://forums.erepublik.co.uk/index.php
The other thing I am hoping for this month is more congress articles. These serve a few different purposes. As well as informing the public of what is going on in congress they also increase TUP’s media presence which shows activity within the party and it is therefore more desirable for new players. Some of you may be unsure of what a congress article should contain. Lots of people do it differently but when I write mine I state the proposals and talk a little about each one giving my reasons for voting as I did. I’m sure you will have some great ideas for your own though.
So you have read this article and are interested in running for congress. But how do you do it? It is quite simple. All you have to do is make sure you have a forum account and state your interest here: http://forums.erepublik.co.uk/index.php?topic=87480.msg1406325#new
If you do not already have a forum account please make one and request access to the TUP private section here: http://forums.erepublik.co.uk/index.php?board=712.0
Thanks,
Cotton

Voted, good work
I second this.
As a current serving congressman, I can tell you that the use of in-game messages just does not work for any meaningful discussion. The current message has 255 posts in it (and that is only since the new CP was elected as we had to start a new message which lost us two days) and finding anything is next to impossible.
I have personally raised the following proposals
1) Request for a vote on the use of forums - ignored
2) Request for a debate on a code of conduct for players - minor discussions and then ignored
3) Request for a debate on immigration policy - minor discussions and then ignored
4) Code of conduct for congress members - minor discussions and then ignored
Congress is currently a shambles, there is no legislative programme, no reporting by ministers (the CP only turns up when he wants us to vote for a proposal), the promised committees never materialised and half of congress can't even talk to the other half......
Rotten doesn't even come close to describing where we are...........
Yes. Forums! My gawd that'll solve all the issues!
Don't recall there ever being a problem with them and of course there is no way to strike a happy medium.
I thought the only problem was Goku being buthurt over being banned...
and besides, its actually moderable in the forums whereas the PMs have no chance for that and descend into slap-fests
I don't have much issue with the forums themselves per sae.
What I do take issue with is the fact they are appearing to made a prerequisite of potential congressmen when the use of them is totally non-essential to doing a half decent job.
Also half the time I go onto the forums there's usually some slap fest over the very moderation itself which will purportedly prevent this elsewhere.
how we run our party is our own decision, surely...? If we want a hoop to jump through in order to ensure we have a candidate who half cares I think its ok.
As for other parties, up to them what hurdles (or none) they put in
