[TRS] Talk like a Pirate day!

Day 5,782, 00:19 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Mr Woldy

Hello Citizens!

No doubt you have already heard that the 19th of September is Talk Like a Pirate Day! Pirates sailed the seven seas spreading enlightened ideals from port to port, and shoving the occasional cutlass into the occasional bodice. You take the good with the bad.

Here at TRS (Trademarked) HQ, we don’t think Pirate-themed-activities should be exclusive to Pastafarians, so we have a few pirate-themed games to run. Grab your Jolly-Roger-Y-fronts and participate in the comments below!

All hands hoy!

According to the pirate lingo dictionary, ‘all hands hoy’ means ‘everyone get on deck’. I bet you couldn’t have guessed that! The first game of International Pirate Day brings together the essence of piracy and spamming (can we say that?) in one place. I have made a post on the national feed which you can access here:

https://www.erepublik.com/en?countryPost=1232860 (make sure you click the Union Jack to view the right feed).

The object of our first Pirate game is to be the last person to add a line of a story to the post by replying to it. Anyone can reply, however the prize will be based on the longest chain of unbroken replies which use at least one piratical term from the pirate lingo dictionary. 50GBP per post in the unbroken chain. If that isn’t clear, just try to be the last reply to find out what the prize is. The more hands on deck, the larger the prize.

Feel free to add your own piratey phrases off-list, but don’t get too brave! Oh… and try to make the story make sense so we can submit it to the creative writing contest. .

Pass me the eye patch

We all know pirates liked eye patches? But do you know why? It is because pirates, via the pirate code, formalised the paying of compensation for loss of limb (or eye). An eye was worth about the same as a finger, and if you lost one you’d get the cash added to your share of the plunder. Hashtag fun facts.

Our second game is a bit like a quiz… I left my eyepatch on top of some movies I borrowed from blockbusters and the heatwave has caused the boxes to leave an imprint on the inside of my patch! Have you ever heard something so contrived!?

As a result all I see is a mash up of two films - message me the titles of the films mashed together below to win a HEFTY BUNDLE of Q5 food.

Message me your answer!

Talk the talk

There’s a wide range of slang deployed by Pirates, Privateers, and Sailors alike - but is it always used correctly? Who knows. That’s why I stick to Esperanto. Whoever can use this pirate slang dictionary to best-decipher the below letter will win TWENTY THOUSAND POUNDS, courtesy of TRS coffers (you may not find all the definitions you need there though!).

That Garth, always up to nenio bona. Message me your answer!

Walk the walk!

Did you know that binding the hands of someone you don’t like, blindfolding them, and making them walk off a plank is not murdering them? It’s just an accident if they happen to fall whilst bound and blindfolded. That’s Pirate logic.

For the final pirate themed game, you are going to walk a figurative plank. I want you to guess a number between 1-100. One number per person (first commenter gets prio). Whoever has the largest number at the end of the day without going over my figure will win 100Q7 Guns.

But there’s a catch - I have written down a number on my pirate themed notepad and if your number is higher than that then you will lose. Imagine it as you guessing how many steps to walk down my plank - it totally works and flawlessly fits the pirate theme.

Comment your best guess!

So that is it! Four pirate themed games to mark International Pirate Day! We hope you enjoy participating and practising your pirate slang.

It is not widely known that some pirates, as outcasts from their societies, are now understood to have spread enlightened ideals, tolerance and democratic values around the Atlantic basin over the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. You don’t see much of that in the films! If you feel like being a little more pirate in eRepublik, then Join TRS and help us do the same!

Thanks for reading, and thanks for playing!
