[POK] Single Player eRepublik?
Sir Moke Shag
Yesterday and interesting article came to my attention. Whether its prophecies will come to pass or not, we shall see, but one thing is already sure: those potential changes are not unthinkable, and certainly in-line with the latest “upgrades”. No doubt, the trend of radical simplifications shall march on, as it has been decided by the e-gods themselves. The emperor’s old clothes are taken away one after the other, until the undeniable size of truth is revealed in its fullest glory.
One common characteristic of the latest changes is their adverse effects on the social aspects of the game: the roles of the community and cooperation are shrinking before our very eyes. If we follow this process of mutation to its logical conclusion, at the end of the tunnel the vague shape of a single player game emerges.
While single player games can be great fun, this mode of gaming is inherently incompatible with the basic nature of the New World. Individual players governing their own empires and competing with others is a stable concept, but the moment you introduce real life countries the whole thing collapses. Why? For one, no single player can nor should monopolize such countries.
In a free single player game it’s absolutely essential to let the player also have the free possibility of success. If money is asked for the most basic accomplishment, then perhaps it would be wiser to search for other services. However in eRepublik success does not depend on just one player, and that’s normal, since it promises the fun of participation in a team-play for the glory of your virtual homeland. No matter what you do or how much do you pay, (at this moment and most luckily) you cannot decide wars by yourself. Just ask Romper. If victory on the international scale is unreachable, that’s not a big tragedy in itself. There are other ways to have fun. Are there?
There are a number of entertaining features a single player game can offer. One of them would be the participation in an exciting story. Until recently, eRepublik had been organically generating its own history, with alliances, strategically-planned world wars, epic battles, regions with real economic importance and so on. Even a passive witness could enjoy the often unexpected turns in the string of events. Now we have endless and pointless tribal wars between neighbors. eRepublik history is dead.
A great story isn’t the only possible source of joy in a decent single player game: the sheer fun of an exciting gameplay can cover the lack of purpose. Unfortunately, the routine of clicking on the same buttons, in the same order, and for the same results, sounds more like work than gaming.
The most addictive games often give you the chance to create and design your much cooler virtual-self and/or your own highly personalized little empire. (An example for the latter would be the most profitable game of the moment: Farmville). Unfortunately again, in erepublik there isn’t enough diversity to begin with, to allow for proper customization. Your virtual-self consists of a name, a picture, and two variables each related to your ability to hit harder, and your “empire” is limited to buildings, which also relate to your fighting potential. On the top of this, becoming a decent warrior is not possible without investing some real cash.
In conclusion: improving and expanding the single player aspects of eRepublik is not a bad idea in itself, but these changes should not go against the social-multiplayer pretense the game is based upon. Otherwise we can end up with a limited and crappy single player game, where the big promises of the older eRepublik concept are gradually turned into the new clothes of the emperor.
A kis birodalmad is harckapacitást növelő épületekre korlátozódik.

the article you refer to seems to be gone
i thought it was riker's 🙂
New changes in four days!
If anything, I could always rely on my source of information. Although nothing is 100% positive, not even death (at least in Star Trek).
Seems like everyone will get 3 iron companies and a Q1 weapon company. That is the “good” news. Bad one: marketplace is going to be removed. Actually since there will be no more trade, whole market is questionable. Probably job and monetary market will be removed too. Only market left will be companies for sale. But not for long.
Nothing was further speculated, but I think we won’t be able sell any kind of company and even medal rewards could go down just like level rewards.
With no market, taxes will seize to exist, national banks will become pointless, as well as local currency.
Only gold will be left, and the only way to get it will be to pay for it. Maybe even posibility of donating stuff will also be removed.
But the biggest question is:
Are admins really trying to shut down this game and get as much money out of our pockets before that happens, or they really think this will actually going to raise their income in long terms?
Picard to Lily: The economics of the future are somewhat different. ...You see, money doesn't exist in the twenty-fourth century. Only gold. The acquisition of wealth is no longer driving force in our lives. We just love to bang with Serbs.
As Picard tells Lily about Plato, she answers: Plato? Sounds Greek.
Then, right behind the corner, she saw Plato and screame😛 Definetely not Greek!
Picar😛 Off course he's not Greek, he's Romanian.
I always write articles in Word first, and I have them all saved on my HD. So, in order for your readers to fully understand your article, I pasted it here.
Jaja, kifele áll a szekér rúdja, ahogy a művelt kisgazda mondaná.
Milyen igaz...
You know the saying: "Sad, but true". : ) Anyway, nice article, and professional English. Congratulations! : )
Good article. This game is doomed!
P,,I,,ato
Моke, remember your article about Sektor A and the "complex erep"? Did you believe back then that the game would even exceed that guess of yours?
1. There's no work skill anymore!
2. Working is now a one-click activity!
3. Fighting is even less pointless, because of the great disbalance of power!
Nice article..Vote : )
@Alexander Pandjarov
Of course we won't ever sink to the simplicity levels of Sector A. The RL references such as the countries and regions are the least likely to be removed. The mouse-trap without the cheese is a feeble one.
Hit again, Number One 😎
I wonder when this article will be deleted, also.
