[PM] Last Nights Events - A Statement from the PM

Day 991, 11:21 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by eUK Home Office
A Statement from our Country President

One day after being elected and so much has happened in what has to be one of the most eventful days of my eLife. So where do I start? Lets try from the beginning.

I awoke on the 6th early and quickly checked erepublik to see how the presidential vote had finished and to find myself as the new eUnited Kingdom Prime Minister. Honoured, I assembled my cabinet and began the transition from my predecessors team to mine. I quickly got involved; I joined the phoenix channel, got my cabinet together, and began working on making sure that all things were in order.

The first few hours went smoothly and I was getting settled into the role. I was then ping’d on IRC to be asked why I had started a war. Confused I replied that I had done no such thing but quickly checked erepublik to see what they were on about. On my screen everything was fine. It wasn’t long before multiple battles were opening up, not only from the eUnited Kingdom but then from eSerbia and eGermany. A string of new Presidents, including myself had become victims to a security hole in erepubliks media in which images were being used to run malicious s

Quickly my team contacted the relevant members and a temporary ban was placed on my account to stop the hackers from doing any more damage while the situation was assessed and the Community Officers could step in.

It would appear the following Country Presidents were also affected - eHungarian, eSerbian, eGerman, eVenezuelan, eSlovenian, eBolivian

An Impeachment vote was started by my rival in the elections Jamesw. As runner up he would have assumed the presidency upon my impeachment. I would like to state that he has apologised for rushing to start the vote which will thankfully now fail to pass and I understand why he did. For the first 20 minutes of the fiasco it was only the eUK that was affected. I have accepted his apology and there are no hard feelings between us. He has released his own article on the matter.

Eventually the Community Officers started undoing the damage and made sure that I was updated throughout the process. I then communicated this information to the eUK Forum Community to make sure the community was aware of what was going on and knew as much as I did on the matter.

We do however await for the MPP’s to be returned and wars to be closed and fixed however the worst is over and this should be fixed in the coming days.

So when I get asked how my first day as President was, I can safely say that it wasn’t dull.

As for the security hole, it has apparently been fixed and shouldn’t occur again.

As for the event itself I think this can be summed up with:

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

During this challenge my team responded quickly and secured the Bank of England and all orgs with our nations money in that may have been at risk as well as passing on information to other countries and citizens whilst I was helping the erepublik staff find the security hole.

I believe we handled the situation as best we could and I’m pleased to see once it was clear what was happening, the nation pulled together like it did.

I would also like to extend a special thanks to: Dishmcds my Deputy PM, Thatcher my Chancellor for locking down the Bank of England quickly, Mr Woldy for keeping morale up as best he could as well as the Community Officers I spoke to.
