Henry Pfeiffer Arundel
After a bit of thought, and quite a bit of boredom, I've decided to throw my hat into the ring for the Presidency of the United States Workers Party.
Before I dive into my (rough) plans for the month, a bit of history:
I've been USWP President seven times, and during that time we were incredibly successful in every respect. Membership, election turnout and results, and we once even managed to take the only single party absolute majority in American history. I've also been Country President and a bunch of other stuff, but that's less important in this respect.
Now, I'm not promising a 200 member jump or the complete electoral dominance we've had in the past. I'm simply saying that we've been there, and I believe we can be there again. It will take a considerable amount of work from all of our current and future party leaders. I believe the party has done well in working to spread out and interact with new players, but I'd like to try and take that a bit further. How? Good question.
I'm not totally sure yet. Our Fast Forward program is going well, but I'd like to work to expand the number of people using it...and how they can get it. USWP has always been the strongest advocate for wise use of meta gaming to supplement smart mechanical clicking, but there is no reason we can't supply people who more often than not are restricted to the in game world due to real life time constraints. I've considered using the Party shout feed for this. I, or whoever is doing it that day, shouts that anyone wishing to receive a daily drop of food simply comment on the shout.
Shout comments would net half of the supplies you can get on the forum...but I'll probably be raising that number, so it won't be like we simply send someone a small pile of q1 food and call it a day. I'm currently reviewing the program to see what might work, but money won't be an issue. I have, and will continue, to personally fund any and all programs during my Party Presidencies as necessary (and donate to them when I'm having a break from the job).
I feel like that should be most of the recruitment we need. We'll still do new player messaging, and try to keep a party article in the media regularly, but keeping our house in order is the best advertisement we can have.
As I said above, the USWP has always been the strongest advocate for wise use of meta gaming to supplement smart mechanical clicking. We're the oldest party in the country, the only one left from Beta. I say that because this is the framework from which I think about how to manage the party, and how to play the game. I've always felt that this obligates us to be responsible in the leadership we offer, the policies we support, and the people we run for office.
The mechanics of the game allow only a handful of policy options to Congress and the President, mechanically speaking. We're more limited than we were, which means that the name of the game now is reliability and trustworthiness in the people we put forward as representatives of our party, and our country. I wrote an article about what I think Congress needs to be doing, and have tried to offer a bit of my experience to newer players in recent weeks.
Read these articles I published for more information:
Giving Congress a Purpose
Question and Answer sessions, and dragging people to IRC
These will directly inform who I run for Congress, and who I support in the next Presidential election. We will, as always, ask people to volunteer for both, but this is the barometer by which the party should evaluate potential congressmen, and the types of things people should be thinking about when casting their vote in presidential primaries.
If we can do that well, the rest is easy as pie.
I won't have a 'cabinet' per se. The in game positions will go to the people doing work and/or old people who I can count on to answer questions accurately and in a timely manner. New people will often message the people at the top of the page, so I want to make sure those people know what's up.
Anyone interested in helping with party work is welcome. There isn't a lot that is difficult, it's about being diligent. So, if you have ten minutes a day to offer, we'll put those ten minutes to good use. If you have an hour a week, we can use that too.
I firmly believe that the USWP has been the been the most important force in shaping this country over the six years of eRepublik. People are going to gripe over that, but I'll stack our history against anyone else's. I'd like to continue that tradition, and I'd like your help in doing so.
Basically, this is what the USWP is like:
My opponent, Kortanul, is good people. Nominating and voting for him will not steer you, or the party, wrong. I want everyone to be clear on that. This month it appears like we have two strong choices, and I would be incredibly happy for him if he wins. We've already been talking about how we will work together next month, regardless of the outcome.
So, USWP members...pop onto the forum HERE and throw a nomination my way if you want to give this thing a shot with me.
As always, if needed, I remain
Praise Dio every day.
