[News] From Sparks to Flames - Day 2,018

Day 2,018, 15:28 Published in Japan Japan by William of Edenbury

Welcome once more to the Sword and the Sakura News!

I apologize for the lack of yesterday's article. Due to eRepublik's server issues and RL obligations I was unable to gather information or write the article. Regardless, today I shall be trying a modified format for the war reports to make them easier on the eyes. Please leave a comment below as to whether you like the new format or the original format.

Domestic News

Jeju- Once again it appears that Plato's promotional efforts have given our government a headache. Due to the new missions, we are seeing a much heavier presence of foreign fighters seeking Battle hero medals than normal. Added to these troubles it seems that TWO alliance soldiers have joined the battles in Jeju. At this time it is unknown if this is a coordinated attack or simply part of the BH medal madness sweeping the eWorld. The use of heavy weapons (bombs and missiles) by the TWO fighters however, suggests that this is intended. Whether the fighting in this region is a precursor to further enemy action in the area or just an attempt to weaken Japan is open to speculation.

Poltics- Speaker nominations ended yesterday with Zodiarque being the only nominee to receive the necessary 3 supporting votes to become eligible. Congratulations and thank you for your continued dedication to keeping eJapan's government running smoothly.

An amendment to the laws for renting National Organizations is set to come up for a vote in the Diet. All economically minded players are encouraged to review the potential change and the reasons behind it in the congressional section of the forums.

International News

The current World War is in full swing despite continual server issues. Fortunately for all of our attention spans, politics have taken a backseat to military actions and strategies.... is what I would like to say. However, there are many behind the scenes actions that are changing the course of the war.

North America
The American offensive against Serbia has failed and the counterattack has meeting overwhelming success, partly due to lack of attention by American allies. The eU.S can lose a large number of regions before being under threat of full occupation and serves as an excellent damage sink against Serbian forces. More unfortunately though, America has garnered its fair share of ire from its allies after the unexpected attack on Serbia. This means that allies are more reluctant to direct damage for the eAmerican defense. Serbia now marches towards the American capital in Florida. Rather than attack it, it is likely that Serbian military planners intend to surround the region and cutoff American access to their bonuses. This would put severe pressure on the American economy and hinder their ability to fight back against the invading army.

Mexico also faced a Major invasion of its own yesterday. A Romanian airstrike on the Capital, Valley of Mexico, region would have given TWO an even stronger presence on the continent and allowed for many more attack and maneuver possibilities between invading powers. Unfortunately for Romania, it is not well liked by its new allies. This led to less damage being dealt by its various allied nations. In the case of Spain however, its allies were actively fighting against it for the Mexican side. The reason for this switching of sides in the battle will be explained farther down the article.

South America
In a perpetual game of cat and mouse, Chile is attempting to regain control over previously occupied Argentinean regions. Due to constant resistance wars however, Chile is losing ground steadily.

In the north of the continent Colombia held a strong counterattack against the tag team of Peru and Mexico. Unfortunately for them, with the failed Romanian invasion of Mexico and a stalled assault on Peru, the tables could turn quickly.

Asia/South Pacific
Still the only region to remain relatively quiet, TWO is leading a small scale insurgency campaign against CoT holdings in the region. Chilean colonies in Australia are under continued attack, while its supply line through New Zealand has already been cut. As previously mentioned, our own battle in Jeju could potentially fall under the heading of this insurgency campaign as TWO soldiers have been spotted on the battlefield.

In the China-Indonesia (training?) war, the peace process continues. After the passing of no natural enemy laws, a peace law has been proposed between the two nations.

Europe
The defeat of the Americans at Aquitaine has left the most significant battles of Europe in the north. After insurgencies that cut off both German and Russian supply lines and damaged their economies, Conventional warfare continues. The United Kingdom has invaded German colonies in Scandinavia and Lithuanian/insurgent forces have almost completely pushed Russia out of its former holdings in the region. The New Russian capital remains as isolated as the previous one, keeping its bonuses and economy firmly separated. While the campaign against Russia in its colonies winds down, the invasion of its home regions is well under way. Latvia joined the Hungarian led invasion and the two nations are now attacking Russian territories in such a way as to make sure any new Russian capitals remain isolated

Spotlight on:Spain
This is a section that will occasionally come out to provide more information on a country or group.

In today's spotlight segment, we review Spain's seemingly erratic behavior in regards to the alliances. In a previous article, I mentioned a war of words between Spanish and TWO alliance officials. Spain has made it very clear to the world that they do not approve the inclusion of Romania into the alliance or the propensity of Spain's Balkan allies to leave it as chew toy for enemy nations in North and South America. This rift between Spain and TWO alliance HQ has caused many nations in the CoT alliance to court the nation in hopes of finding a new ally. This has only partially succeeded. Spain has a close freindship/suballiance with Latin American nations such as Chile and Mexico, but due to dislike of certain other CoT nations and the significant difference in power between the two major alliances, it remains in TWO. This causes the sporadic behavior we have previously seen, where they will willingly follow TWO HQ orders for one battle and then fight against their own alliance in another battle.
(Reporter's opinion: While their actions may sound a bit sneaky, I applaud the fact that Spain chooses to fight for the nations they are friends with regardless of potential repercussions.)

In today's experimental format, I will talk about Regional Campaigns rather than each individual battle. Also, we now have pretty drawings!

North America

After the failed attack against Aquitaine, Serbian forces have stormed the beaches in North Carolina. Their forces now move south through Georgia to encircle the capital and cut it off from the rest of the nation's resources.

The Valley of Mexico faced a Romanian airstrike yesterday but through a combination of unusual friendships and allied support, the Mexicans managed to resist the attack. Now their eyes turn toward the Colombian forces that have taken the Southeast of Mexico and its Rubber resource. Colombia has the initiative and will try to continue its drive north.

South America

In its counterattack against both Mexico and Peru, Colombia attempted to drive south into the Northern Low Amazon of Peru. However, Allied forces managed to repel the attack and now Peru has regained the initiative.

Insurgencies continue to plague the empires of South America. In particular, Chile has lost the majority of the once occupied regions of Argentina. Chilean Forces are attacking east in hopes of reconnecting with their isolated holdings that yet remain.

Asia/South Pacific

I hope I don't need to draw you a picture here, Jeju is under attack and we need your help to defend it! Join the eJapan irc for supplies and directions!

Europe

Russia has its capital isolated and its once numerous holdings in Scandinavia are nearly gone. The Lithuanian onslaught and continuous insurgencies are pushing Russian forces out of the area.

Insurgencies in Germany's danish holdings cut off the nation's resources before a British invasion. With its colonies divided and vulnerable, Germany may soon see the British fleet landing on its home shores.

The TWO onslaught against Russia continues in the nation's homeland. Hungary took the Volga region and has begun moving north. Lithuania took the Moscow region and has begun moving north as well. They have left the Russian region of Central Black Earth isolated between them, likely hoping that the Russian Capital will be forced to relocate there.
