[MOO] Two Opportunities Added to Party Platform (Day 1268)

Day 1,268, 18:07 Published in Canada Canada by Addy Lawrence

FOREWARD

A few days ago I imposed a wall of text on you talking about the original eight opportunities of the MOO platform and how some had been achieved, some were being actively worked on, and others were on the back burner. In addition, I mentioned that "the herd" had been working on addition more content to the platform.

Today, in the interests of brevity, I'll cover off the two latest Opportunities of MOO along with some of the pros and cons raised in our forum debate.

WHAT IS MOO'S STANCE ON THE STRENGTH OF THE CAD?

The Ninth Opportunity of MOO is to position eCanada's CAD as one of the most valuable currencies in eRep. A strong CAD ensures a high quality of living for all eCanadians and makes gold more accessible for those who choose not to invest RL money in this game.

This opportunity was supported by a vote of 6 to 1.

Arguments in favour:

Few countries have a strong currency. Achieving this would differentiate eCanada on the world stage, despite its small size relative to others.

Making the currency strong means we can purchase more gold.

Having a stronger CAD in comparison to gold would be extremely beneficial to the average Canadian citizen and go a long way to faster self-sufficiency for those pursuing that route.

It will also cause demand for CAD to rise amongst the international community, meaning we will have a "leg up" in trade and diplomacy

Admins are implementing new ways to 'burn' currency: Resistance Wars, Land, Moving Tickets, MPPs. Perhaps MOO should investigate an exploit in one of these 'burn' methods.

Arguments against:

A strong currency makes MPP's more expensive in terms of gold given that MPP's are paid in local currency.

Admin creates fake CAD which dilutes the value of the CAD, it is very difficult to compete with admin's ability to create fake CAD and to react to admin's constant changes to the game environment. These changes often impact the value of the CAD and in some cases without a counteracting measure.

Removing CAD from the economy is like bailing water with a toy bucket while Admins dump currency into the market and find ways to make people buy up more Gold from the MM (see Missions, new businesses, and end-of-month special offers). The idea is noble but the excecution may be futile.

Higher taxes directed at removing CAD will only go against other MOO Opportunities. Bond programs are an alternative way to remove CAD, yet again it is contradicting the Opportunity of taking money out of Govt hands.

Moving tickets will be more expensive and so will MPP's. We will put eCanada at a disadvantage to other countries.

WHAT IS MOO'S STANCE ON THE MILITARY

The Tenth Opportunity is a steady supply of battles and strength training for all eCanadian soldiers. MOO supports a government that is focused on maintaining several MPP's that afford eCanadian's plenty of opportunities to fight and increase their rank. MOO also supports the equitable and transparent funding of strength training for soldiers, regardless of their military affiliation. MOO expects the eCanadian market, through domestic producers and competitively priced imports, to provide adequate food and weapons to supply eCanadian soldiers who are not in a position to self-supply these items.

This opportunity was supported by a 10 to nil vote.

Arguments in favour:

One of the few true essential military services a government provides is entering into and paying for MPPs. MOO is also pro small government, so covering off MPPs would be the minimum expectation.

There are citizens who choose the path of a career soldier, providing a steady supply of battles is key to providing this demographic with opportunity. It will attract citizens.

Avoiding the logistics of donating weapons and food makes government more efficient.

Soldiers all fight for the country and pay taxes equally, gaining equal access to strength training is only fair.

It supports and gives our citizens battles to grow.

It also promotes militias in eCanada, that is needed in some shape or form

Might make more people military-involved.

Arguments against:

On the national stage, eCanada would not have a war chest of guns and food lying around.

A CAF-heavy Congress will never approve such a budget cut.

CONCLUSION

MOO now has a well defined party platform on two prominent topics. These positions really aren't surprises per se, however the position is no longer ambiguous. If I may say so myself, MOO has a track record of sticking to its platform so these two additional opportunities will be relevant and define political behaviour in the future.
