Aliados, amigos, irmãos: Portugal está convosco!

Uma semana depois de que Espanha decidisse declarar a guerra a Portugal, este pequeno país orgulha-se de ter-lhe dito ao mundo, alto e claro, que é um povo digno e valoroso, que não esconde a cabeça e que vai combater sempre que for preciso e por todos os meios a sua arrogância.

Portugal venceu. Venceu pela sua determinação de luta, mas venceu sobretudo porque esteve respaldado pela dignidade solidária de centenas de combatentes que acompanharam com firmeza a nossa resposta frente a louca ofensiva de quem pretendia um alvo fácil ao que subjugar para satisfazer os egos dos seus governantes e elevar o moral das suas tropas. Mas o resultado foi o contrário.

Contra vento e maré, contra todas as expectativas, Portugal defendeu-se do embate opressor com contundência em duas batalhas iniciais nas quais o inimigo nem conseguiu atingir um ponto em nenhuma das divisões. Avançou sobre território espanhol cercando a sua capital e contribuiu para a libertação de colónias estratégicas para os seus bónus como a Guayana e Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mas vocês, aliados e velhos amigos de Portugal, são os artífices desta vitória que também é vossa. Pois para além do sucesso militar, pudemos verificar nos factos os valores da irmandade solidária, a fortaleza dos laços que nos unem a lutadores de todas as latitudes que empunharam armas connosco sem mais motivações que as de ajudar um país nobre e digno que precisava de apoios e combater a estúpida ousadia espanhola.

Assim que o adversário lançou a sua declaração de Inimigo Natural contra Portugal, o nosso Governo instou publicamente aos países aliados e amigos a não tomar posições neste confronto ibérico, pois pretendemos evitar que a mesquindade espanhola cumprisse os seus objectivos de quebrar os alinhamentos internacionais. Mas vocês, sem necessidade de directrizes governamentais, valentes e corajosos, decididos e firmes, estenderam a vossa mão a quem a precisava no momento mais oportuno.

Bem sabemos que o inimigo é superior a nós numérica e militarmente. Bem sabemos que, apesar de que vamos combatê-los com unhas e dentes, neste contexto irão avançar progressivamente sobre o nosso território.

Mas eles também sabem que não estamos sozinhos. Sabem também do que fomos e somos capazes. E têm mais claro do que nunca que despertaram a raiva e a coragem dum rival que vai estar sempre expectante para golpear os seus interesses onde mais lhes dói. Enquanto formos inimigos os lucros das suas colónias não vão estar nunca mais seguros. Por isso Portugal vence embora tenha ameaçada a sua integridade territorial. E pela nossa e vossa persistência, pelas lições do valor e a irmandade, a vitória portuguesa sera inexorável.

A todos aqueles que o deram tudo connosco no campo de batalha. Aos que nos abriram portas diplomaticamente e contribuíram a desvendar a mentira espanhola. Aos aliados de sempre, aos de agora e aos que ainda tendo seguido caminhos diferentes ao nosso não faltaram no momento preciso. Aos solidários contra a opressão e a loucura espanhola. A todos vós estamos obrigados e com todos vós estamos em dívida. Porque sabemos que contamos convosco que queremos fazer-vos saber que contais com este pequeno país que é grande em dignidade e coragem. Em orgulho e generosidade.

Entre todos vamos transformar a ofensiva espanhola na semente duma irmandade que intensifique os laços entre os povos que respeitamos e damos o valor que merecem a conceitos como nobreza, fraternidade, honor e solidariedade.

Aliados, amigos, irmãos: a fortaleza da nossa irmandade é garantia de vitória! Portugal está convosco!

Allies, friends, brothers: Portugal is with you!

One week after Spain decided to declare war to Portugal, this small country is proud of telling the world, loud and clear, that it is a dignified and valorous, that doesn’t hide its head and fights whenever needed and by all means their arrogance.

Portugal won. Won by its determination to fight, but won mostly because it was supported by the dignity and solidarity of hundreds of combatents who acompanied with firmness our response against a crazy offensive of someone who wanted an easy target whom to subjugate to satisfy their governants’ egos and raise the morale of their troops. But the result was the contrary.

Against winds and tides, against all expectations, Portugal defended itself from the opressing brunt with pungency on the two iniciating battles on which the enemy didn’t even get a point in any division. It then moved forward to spanish gronds surrounding their capital and contributing the release of strategic colonies to their bonuses like Guayana and Newfoundland and Labrador.

But you, allies and ancient friends of Portugal, are the craftsmen of this victory which is also yours. For beyond the military success, we can verify in the facts the values of this solidarity friendship, the fortress of the ties that unite us fighters from all latitudes who wielded weapons with us without further motivations than those to help a noble and dignified country which needed help to combat the stupid spanish audacity.

From the moment the adversary launched their declaration of Natural Enemy against Portugal, our government publically urged to our allied contries and friends not to take positions in this iberic confrontation, because we pretend to avoid that the spanish pettiness fulfilled its goals to break the international allignments. But you, without the need of governmental guidelines, bold and brave, decided and firm, extended your hand to those who needed and the most seasonable moment.

We well know that the enemy is superior to us numerically and military wise. But we also know that, besides of our will and efforts, they will avance progressivelly on our territory.

But they also know that we’re not alone. They know of what we were and what we’re capable of. And are cleared now more that ever that they unleashed the anger and courage of a rival who will always be expectant to dint their interests where it hurts the most. While we’re enemies, the profits of their colonies will never be secure and for that Portugal wins although having threatned their territorial integrity. And for our and your persistence, for the lessons of valour and brotherhood, the portuguese victory will be inexorable.

To all of those who gave everything with us on the battlefield. To those who opened doors diplomatically and contributed to unraveling the spanish lie. To the same allies as allies as always, to those of now, and to those who even following different paths didn’t fail at our most precious time. To those sympathetic against the spanish oppression and crazyness. To all of you we thank and to all of you we are in debt. Because we know we can count on you and we wish you to know that we can count on this small country which is big on dignity and guts, in pride and generosity.

Let us transform the spanish offensive into the seed of a brotherhood that intensifies the ties between the people who we respect and give the value they deserve to concepts as noblety, fraternity, honour, and solidarity.
