Hi all Citizens of eIreland and abroad

This year is the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising that lead to the creation of the Irish Free State (later to be know as Éire and then The Republic of Ireland)

1916 marks the start of the end of the British Empire and was hugely significant as it was not the loss of a colony or dependent but a Home Country. Think the loss of Wales or Scotland.

The rising was not popular in Dublin and it was only the brutality of the Crown Forces and subsequent executions that lead to the the groundswell change of opinions and the unstoppable force leading to Independence.



To give you some idea of how Easter Weeek 1916 played out Google have done an excellent TOUR with narration by Colin Farrell along with voiced eye witness testimony and photographs.

Finally the Competition...

Between now and Easter Monday (March 28th) we are encouraging articles about the 1916 Rising and the momentous years following. These articles will be judged by the then MoC and the best will win 10 gold.

To enter your article it must be published in Ireland (you can be a citizen from anywhere in the eWorld). Also you must message this ORG the link so we have a record come voting day. No PM sent...you are not entered.
