[Ministry of Education] How to IRC & Statist

Day 2,581, 17:56 Published in Nigeria Nigeria by Nigerian National Bank

Hello Nigeria,

The Ministry of Education and Statistics is reporting in with a guide to IRC and some very basic statistics.

Part 1: How to IRC - I: Register and identify + Rizon.net
Part 2: Statistics > Presidents of Nigeria

Part 1: How to IRC - I: Register and identify + Rizon.net

The idea here is to introduce one function and one client in every article. But first of let me stress the importance of using IRC to participate in the Meta-Game of eRepublik.

IRC - but why?

While the ingame features of eRep enable you to get in touch with your fellow party- or MU-Members IRC will give you the opportunity to connect with all parts of society and people from different nations. PMs may enable you to do just the same thing in theory but in this aspect they're too inflexible and you never know for sure when your recipient will read the message. Besides sending out PMs just to say 'hi' is a thing done by very few and has ofttimes the potential to be annoying.
But there is even more: There is a wide variety of channels which range from channels of several eNations (of which many can be found here: http://www.erepublik.ws/official-country-irc), parties, Military Units etc. to the famous trading channel #itrade where you can buy goods exempt from taxation.

Especially in smaller channels one cannot expect active communication all the time. You can try to initiate one or wait until one occurs spontaneously but don't get frustrated if it doesn't work.

Getting started

To join the IRC you'll have to use a client. There is a wide variety of clients but the in my oppinion easiest solution for beginners is www.rizon.net as you don't have to install any software and it's rather simple to use.

Visit rizon.net using your browser and click on 'Go Chat' or access rizon.net/chat directly (you may consider setting a bookmark)

Ignore the last two fields and just enter your desired nickname and the channel you want to visit (here: #eNigeria)

You can now start chatting by clicking on cancel or register your nick by following the instructions

Joining Channels and Query

You can join other channels by typing '/j #channelname' in the chat. By using a channelname that is not already claimed a new (empty) channel will be generated that will vanish once you leave.
Also you can open a private chat with people by clicking on their name and choosing 'query' in the menu that opens.

Another way to do this is to type /msg [UserYouWantToMsg] [TextYouWantToSend]

To login ('identify' yourself) for your next visit proceed to this point

then choose 'identify to nickserv' in the last window and enter your password.

There is another way to register your link that works for all clients (to my knowledge)

Type '/msg NickServ REGISTER [DesiredPassword] [YourEmail]' into the chat (obviously you've to replace the text in squared brackets and don't use the quotation signs) to register and
'/msg NickServ IDENTIFY [Password]' password to identify. Make sure to make no typos as you don't want to reveal your PW to the whole channel or a guy named 'NickErv'.

A complete guide with many useful information can be found here.

Part 2: Statistics > Presidents of Nigeria

The following tab shows all presidents of eNigeria and the percentage of votes they've achieved as well as the most successful opposing candidate.

The percentage of votes achieved by the CP is also illustrated here.

While the total number of votes can be seen here.

All data has been retrieved directly from eRepublik. The values for december are likely measurement errors possibly caused by juve's tempban. Anyway a general trend of lower amounts of votes can be observed. While there is so far no statistic regarding demographic developement in eNigeria for the timeframe it can be said that of the ~300 citizens eNigeria had over the time only 100 are currently active in eNigeria which corresponds well with the drop in votes.
