Dear citizens,
Yesterday, the government started a vote in congress regarding the dissolvement of the Union and the acknowlegdement of the Belgian state.
This is article 1 of the UNL constitution:
Article 1
A) The eUNL is a democratic union of Belgium and the Netherlands.

This union is built on democratic support from both countries citizens.
C) When either citizens of Belgium or the Netherlands can show a democratic support for seperation this Union will enter a seperation phase to be completed by the goverment
The current UNL government sees that A and B are no longer met by the current situation. We are no longer one and a lot of democratic support is also missing. Still, a lot of people from both sides were still hoping for the Belgian regions to return to the UNL. Something others did not appreciate, and even judged them badly for it.
To avoid further discussion and confusion, the UNL government decided to use part C of article 1. We have started a vote in the UNL Congress.
The congressmen may vote on the question wether they "agree on disbanding the union and acknowledging Belgian independancy?"
Now that the congress accepted this vote, the Union is officially dissolved and the Belgian state acknowledged by our government.
Also, the government makes clear that when the Belgian government or people decide to merge and form the Union once again, we will welcome them with open arms.

The congress has NOT YET accepted this vote, and will need a 75% in favour to change the constitution, which isn't the case up until this moment.
It has been accepted, look at the article 1C, it is a democratic majority
Thats the old Enetherlands constitution, the current constitution does not need that 75%
As NL leave the Union, how will be manage the assets of the Union ?
The different state companies ? The BEFs ? It will be nice to explain what will be negociate with the Belgian government...
@ThomasRe😛 The government we will speak on this matters tomorrow. But the UNL Congress has accepted a vote that stops us helping Belgium with our state companies. Be sure that we will publish more on the plans when we have them
If it's really the end of the Union, the assets of the Union will have to be distributed between the differents members of the old Union. What the Union have today have only been possible because Belgium and Netherlands have both contributed to it. Thanks for the start of precisions you have provided.
Great news, this will be a step forward in eDutch-eBelgian piplomacy. And as ThomasRed is pointing out, it would be nice to have some of the joint resources back 😉
This is a divorce but it was better to negociate who take what before roar everywhere that it is the end.

Kravenn: I remember seeing a number of articles in the Belgian media about how the Union had ended anyway some time before. So I think we're perhaps both guilty of not negotiating on beforehand. It's ok though, as long as we know it of each other 🙂 I am sure the practial matters will be resolved soon.

Sad day, as the union was very good for our economy, and community.
I hope both countrys will take steps forward to eachother to archive a good coorporation.

"We always knew" Phaw, i'd like to remind you that article 1 of the constitution was worded that way by it's current MoHA so that if the union ever became a less desireable option we could seperate the countries in a clean and proper arranged manner. I believe the furthest you got to actually comming up with argumentation and legistlation on the matter was referring to the dutch parties of the union as the 3 small dwarfes?
