[KSA] Rizon tutorial + Government announcement [August 2012]

Dear people of eSaudi Arabia,

This article will serve both as a detailed Rizon tutorial and as an important future Government announcement. Please read it carefully.

Rizon tutorial

Note : This tutorial is mostly meant for newer players, but even if you’re a more experienced player, you still might find some interesting tricks, so reading it is recommended.

First of all, what’s Rizon ? It’s an IRC server, full of channels where people can talk, outside of eRepublik. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, and this is usually how eRepublik players communicate, so being active on Rizon is important, because not only can players send each other messages faster and more efficiently, they can socialize and talk about other non-eRepublik related topics as well.

How do we use it ? That’s not so hard, and now I will teach you. One of the best ways to access any server (including Rizon) is using a site called Mibbit. There is also a server with the same name (Mibbit), so don’t mix up these two. This is the site’s link. Now you can see many buttons and options, and if you want to access IRC directly, you should click on the “Launch App” button.

After that, a new page will open up. Now you have to select the server, your nick and the channel you want to join. Since I’m already on IRC with the nick I-G-D, I’ll join in via Mibbit using the nick IvanGD, and I’ll come to the official eSaudi channel, #ksa. An important thing is that there are two ways to choose the server : either by clicking on the arrow and going through the list to choose the name Rizon, or by clicking on “Server” and typing down the server address. Here on this picture I’ve used the latter, where you can see that the Rizon address is irc.rizon.net.

After clicking on “Connect”, Mibbit should connect you to the Rizon server and you should see yourself on the #ksa channel.

Then you type down what you want to say using the big white rectangle below. If you want to send someone a private message you have to double click on his nick and a new tab will get opened for you, like here :

You can switch yourself from one tab to another by clicking on them.

If you want to join other channels you should write down

/join #channel

(#channel is the name of the channel you want to join)

and it doesn’t matter where you write it down (to someone on the PM or on some channel) because the other people won’t see your messages if they begin with “/” because messages like these are actually server commands.

And after you click enter, a new channel tab will pop out :

And if you want to send private messages to players who you can’t find on any of the channels you’re on (or just don’t want to search), you use the command

/query nick

(nick is the nick of the player you want to send the message to)

Now that we’ve covered up the basics, it’s time we learn the more complicated stuff, and one of them is registering your nick. If your nick isn’t registered, anyone can use it, and you don’t want that, ‘cause then people would think someone else is you. That’s why registering your nick is very important, but has proven itself to be rather hard for those who’ve just started using Rizon. That’s why I’ll explain this in details. To begin with, you have to change your nick to the nick you want to register using the command :

/nick nick

(the first “nick” stays the same as part of the command and you change the second “nick” with the nick you want to use, for an example /nick IvanGD if you want your nick to be IvanGD)

Then you have to type in this code :
/msg nickserv register password e-mail

(password is the password you want to use and which you mustn’t share and e-mail is the e-mail you want to use, for an example /msg nickserv register ThisISmyPASS something@something.com)

The screenshot should look like this :

After clicking enter, on the e-mail you’ve written you’ll get a message from Rizon with a special confirm code that you have to write down to complete your registration. After that your nick will be registered and every time you enter Rizon, you have to identify yourself (your nick) by writing down the code :

/msg nickserv identify password

(password is your password that you used when registering)

There is one more code which you should use to protect your nick and that’s

/ns set kill on

(write it exactly like that)

This one is very helpful, because of the fact that if someone logs in by using your nick and doesn’t identify within a minute or so, he won’t be able to use the nick anymore (it will either get changed automatically, or he’ll be kicked off the server, not sure, to be honest).

And the last trick is setting up an automatic connection and identification. You do that by registering on the Mibbit site, and making your own account. That’s also pretty easy : when you go to the site, you can see a “Sign Up Free” button :

Click on it and then a registration field will open up. Fill it in with your e-mail, nick and password, but note that this nick here isn’t connected with your Rizon nick ! So they don’t have to be the same. This nick here is used for the site called Mibbit and the options it offers (you’ll see about that later in the article), and the nick registered on Rizon is used for chatting on Rizon, so they don’t have anything to do with each other.

Now I’ll make an account here (I don’t use Mibbit for chatting, I use something else, but I’ll explain about that at the end of the tutorial) to show you how to make one yourselves :

(I blurred out my e-mail and password, I think that’s something personal)

After that you should be registered :

After that when you try to chat (while logged in) you’ll see some extra options :

These options are really useful so we’ll examine each option separately. The “Account” option gives you info about your account. Here you can change your password or e-mail if you want to, but the most important thing is the “My IRC accounts” tab :

This is where you set up your auto-identification, so pay attention carefully. Click on “Add new entry” then you choose the Server (irc.rizon.net), Nick (your Rizon nick) and Pass (your Rizon password), so the screenshot would be like this :

Then you click on “Save changes”. Note that the nick and password you have to enter are your nick and password for the Rizon server, not the ones you use for Mibbit. This is very important. If you’ve done this correctly, that means that you no longer have to use the “/msg nickserv identify password” code to identify yourself, you will be auto-identified when you log in to Mibbit, but you should still remember your nick password.

“Prefs” and “Profile” aren’t really important options, ‘cause the “Prefs” only modifies how the chat looks visually and in “Profile” you can write a litte bit about yourself, like your sex, age, etc. So we’ll skip these two. The option “Channels” is very important and useful, as this is where you set up your channel list used for auto-connection.

Click on “Add new entry”, and then choose irc.rizon.net as your Server, and separate your channel names by comma, like in this picture :

You can also choose whether you want to auto-connect when you log in to Mibbit. If you do, then keep the Auto connect field ticked, if you don’t, untick it (if you do this, when you want to connect, you can just open up your “Channels” options and click on “Connect now”). Then click on “Save changes”. One more thing to note is that for every option you have a tab :

So if you want the option tab to appear, click on the option below your Mibbit nick and the Log out button, and if you want the option to disappear, click on the “X” mark near its name. You can also do this for private messages and channels, if you want to exit them.

After all of this, you should have a working Mibbit account with a working Rizon nick, so every time you want to join the Rizon chat rooms, you just have to log in to Mibbit. Or if you have, you can keep yourself logged in, and when you go to the chatting link, you can auto-connect and auto-identify if you’ve followed my instructions. There are a lot more commands and codes when it comes to IRC, so if you want to learn some, please contact me, but I personally think this is a very good start for anyone who wants to start using Rizon.

Besides the Mibbit site, the other useful thing you could use for connecting to Rizon are chat clients, and I use one of them, Nettalk, which I consider appropriate for me because of the fact that I’m on many channels (Mibbit can’t handle my 130 channels). They are a bit more complicated for use, so I advise you to use Mibbit.

I hope you enjoyed this text !
