Join the new world

Dear friends,
It is obvious that currently the Unity Party is the dominant force in eUK politics. For over a year, our progressive agenda, practical solutions and likeable candidates have turned us into a popular movement, and movements need leaders. Many past party presidents have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to organise and execute election campaigns, mobilising members to stop the party running out of steam. However, as eRepublik enters a stage of massive decline and all parties are suffering huge losses in members, we need a leader with energy, drive and above all good ideas to lead the party forwards. I present to you myself as this candidate today.

TUP has the largest and strongest core of members out of all the top parties, and we have a whole host of brilliant candidates that have over the months stepped up to the mark in representing our nation in congress and in the presidency. However, these players will not be around for ever and in the current situation we need to recruit and train newer members to ensure the party does not stagnate.

My first idea was to do an initial PMing sweep of the party (in game and on the forums) to ask and find out who is forum/irc active. Then I will create a database on google docs with a list of party members and then their status regarding activity (ie. Forum active/irc active/ 2 clicker/ not responding/ dead) This will give us an idea of who to target with messages offering support and advice to players who previously just 2 clicked. If we could build up relationships between active party members and those who simply play in game then I am confident we could recruit more people to the forums and by extension recruit more talent to the party. I feel this will be a great starting point to base weekly PMing on and will allow us to keep an up to date idea of what the membership of our party is like.

This term we need to kickstart our initiatives to support new players again, making the general public more aware through the media and through messaging. Schemes such as TufP which provides food for new players does a lot to help new players and shows them early on that working together is the way forward in this game. Within the party there is also the Welcome basket scheme of providing gifts for members that join up onto the forums, something that has been a great success these past few months. What is important is that a contact is maintained so members do not simply post once then leave, and I will be creating the post of Retention Manager who will be tasked with communicating via PM with new players to encourage them to join in the discussions and motivate them to get involved in the community, whether through working in a ministry or running for congress. Ministries are a great way to get yourself known within the community and the experience could prove invaluable when applying for jobs higher up in government, something our new players will hopefully be aspiring to achieve.

Whilst our party continues to grow strongly, our rival parties face altogether different circumstances. With the recent failure of the RFA there is a golden opportunity to recruit members who feel that they need a strong political home. Obviously the party is made up of different political supporters however I feel there will be many sympathetic to the aims of TUP who will make a valuable addition to the party. Another possible source of recruitment is from fellow left wing party the PCP, who seem to have hit crisis point with even many top level party members being unsure about the radical plans for change championed by their presidential candidate. It might be a hard sell to many die hard PCP members, however we share many of the same goals and a stronger, united left wing would benefit us all.

A great thing about our party is that we have such a big media presence. I wish to extend this by giving newer players a chance to write articles for the Unity Party paper so that they get experience in writing in the media and get to make their name more publicly visible. I will also be contacting party members that have control over orgs so that we can build up an effective org bank that can help vote up good quality articles written by newer players and published in their own newspapers. This allows members to build up their media profile and gain a wide readership which would be helpful for if they run for public office.

Down with right wing media barons


In regards to congress elections, I think it is essential to have the right mix between veteran candidates and newer members standing for election. That way we have the wealth of experience
offered by older players in the party as well as the enthusiasm and new ideas from newer members. Congress is a useful starting point in a career and we should be encouraging as many active new players as possible to stand. With regards to voting I will make sure that there is a whole host of us available during the day to help advise and direct voters, and we will be aiming to beat the impressive results we achieved last term.

On the issue of party funded private initiatives I will fully support the network of companies that we operate and would look to expand at every available opportunity, obviously the economic side of the game is not my strong point so consultation with those that run the companies would be the way forward.

Actions speak louder than words. In the past, many manifestos have been written however the policies simply have not been put into place and the momentum has simply gone. Even members of this party (myself included) have been guilty of this, and therefore I will strive this term to devote my entire attention to improving and building the Unity Party.
