Due to the popularity enjoyed in Hungary by the recent Romanian TO in Ukraine I've decided to re-print my article for the use of the Hungarian readers. It has sizable part devoted to Hungary anyway and I've added some extra info pertaining to Hungary. So enjoy!

In order for this game to make money for the owners there must be wars. Since the game is boring without wars, sooner or later somebody would start one. Or lose the players because of boredom. You neighbors are eHungary, eRussia, ePoland and eRomania. All of them are more powerful than you today. So unless you have a baby-boom of Real-Life Ukrainians you are vulnerable. And after one day you have your baby-boom, you will have to attack one or more of your neighbors. Otherwise your players will get bored and abandon.

So until you are strong enough by yourselves you WILL have to be friends with either PEACE or EDEN. Ideally you should be friends with both. Because if you have MPPs with all of your neighbors the mechanics of the game make it impossible for Ukraine to be attacked.

Are we clear so far? If yes, let's move on (if not, read again 😉 )

Your neighbors determine your strategic options. So let’s take a look at them:

1. Poland and Romania (EDEN) both have mature, well-oiled war&PTO machines.

Romania also matches Hungary militarily 1-on-1 (see the battle for Podolia between Romania and Hungary, each fighting alone).

Poland exceeds "real Russia" militarily for now. "Real Russia" means Russia without the section of the Indonesian army fighting currently most of Russia's wars. Eventually eRussia would evolve in a real eRepublik world-power but it's not just there yet.

2. Hungary & Rusia (PEACE): Hungary is the strongest of the 2 but will never match Romania in terms of power, organization and discipline. Best proof: their failure to prevent this PTO.

What is working against eHungary:
- Real Life issues:
1. it has a population half Romania's

2. the game attracted a sizeable part of extremists. They are more important in-game than in Hungary's Real Life. But because of them it is increasingly difficult for the eHungarian government to make the intelligent decisions.

- In-game issues:

3. eHungary is stuck in Central Europe and doesn’t have too many options for expanding without bumping too soon into a powerful neighbor. Once eHungary is kicked out of North America (which would happen soon) the Hungarian “protectorates” in Europe (the Danish and German territories) will be also secured by EDEN. The only fun eHungary would have left once that happens would be to bang its head against an EDEN wall. Or to invade Ukraine. Hence the permanent need for Ukraine to be secured through MPPs.

4. By comparison eRomania’s situation is much better: it only takes a friendly agreement with eBulgaria for a temporary swap of 2 provinces and then eRomania would have tons of fun with eTurkey forever and ever without risking anything major. Why? Because once Romania takes control of the Marmara province it would return Burgas to Bulgariaand and from then on have 2 Turkish provinces to attack simultaneously. If Turkey manages to stabilize the situation they will end up having a border with eBulgaria, not with eRomania. eBulgaria being secured through well chosen MPPs eTurkey would find itself against eBulgaria just like they are now against eGreece.

eBulgaria has only to gain from the situation since its geographical location also sucks, being surrounded by stronger in-game and more populous in Real Life (hence the risk of an "enemy" baby boom if eBulgaria becomes to cocky). Once the eBulgarians have accumulated more experience the game above would be played with eRomania also swapping Marmara with eBulgaria. eBulgaria would experience having a Middle Eastern empire as well, keeping its players busy for years.

And let’s not forget the Marmara provice is so well placed the Greeks can also join the party in Asia risk-free if they first swap Marmara with eBulgaria and then follow in the footsteps of either eRomania or eBulgaria until they reach Indonesia 😉

Bottom line: while eRomania will continue to grow eHungary would at best stagnate. Ukraine having permanently an MPP with eRomania would insure eRomania would play the swap-Marmara with eBulgaria and eGreece instead of fighting boredom somewhere in Ukraine.

eRussia: you guys should be very worried about eRussia because eRussia doesn’t have too many directions to expand if they want their players to survive boredom.

Their Scandinavian and Baltic inroads can and will be easily blocked through MPPs. That pretty much leaves only one country in Russia’s path should they decide go West: Ukraine.

Of course the best direction to expand for eRussia would be Asia. But you never know what pan-Slavic ideas might pop-up there. Pan-Slavic ideas which didn’t work in Real Life and which are even less possible to implement in-game. Any “union” between eUkraine and eRussiawould be plagued by RWs and by the fact the new eSoviet Union would not be able to protect its Ukrainian territories through MPPs. That’s because the MPPs only kick in if Russia is attacked in its original territories.

The game mechanics guarantee an “union” with eRussia would only mean eUkraine becomes the playground of everybody: eHungary, ePoland, eRomania and of course eRussia. Given currently the politics in eRussia are messy eUkraine must protect itself through MPPs as soon as possible. Once the eRussian politics mature it would become possible for eUkraine and eRussia to play a land-swap game so eUkrainians take a shot at Asia. But until then better be safe than sorry.

Those are ALL the strategic options available to eUkraine now and in the near future. I hope it is now crystal-clear the current Romanian PTO is the best thing which happened to Ukraine. The Romanian temporary control over the Ukrainian Congress gives Ukraine the MPPs it needs in order to grow organically and undisturbed until Real Life Ukrainians accumulate experience.

And since Romania is not going to plunder the Ukrainian treasury you will also have the funds to support your organic growth. You now have an opportunity you never had before. Take advantage of it because 30 days pass very fast!

And now exclusively for the Hungarian readers:

The TO of eUkraine might have been masterfully executed but it's nothing compared to what we have in store for eHungary. As you may know the guy who invented the TO (Victor Petrescu) is Romanian. And he is currently auctioning the Hungarian presidency. You can still take a shortcut to the presidential seat as the auction is still open. Don't miss the opportunity to run your country into the ground. Better you do it than we do it. 😉
