(Final PM Address) It's Been an Honour, eCanada

Day 897, 17:51 Published in Canada Canada by Derek Harland

It's May 5th, eCanada. Today is the day we elect a new President into office and it will likely be nea milosu being inducted into 24 Sussex Drive. It is a hallowed building and I have been honoured to be so gifted as to have eCanada place their trust in me for a month. I remember that when I first joined this game and saw Bruck as the president, I wondered how could someone make so many friends to win an election multiple times. I joked to myself that I would ever become the Prime Minister of eCanada because I knew the odds of it are very unlikely. Today though, I end my term of 30 days in office. It has been one that is filled with ups-and-downs. From tough decisions to transferring funds, I will say this: being President is a thankless job. It requires a massive amount of time and no matter what happens, you are heavily scrutinized and criticized by the masses, a lot of the time not constructively either. This played a huge role in my decision to not run: as well as failing to deliver on my promises. If I had started the invasion of France earlier I would be here today not saying farewell but campaigning during the election. But alas, I bid farewell today.

No matter whether you liked it or not, the thing I am most proud of is declaring war on France. Some people may not see it or may disagree with me, but it is in my opinion exactly what eCanada needs at this time. I see this game for what it is: a game. And to win it, you need to have as much fun as possible. I know that eCanada was not a fun place to be the last few months and you can see it with the constant remarks on IRC and shouts in-game. This is a wargame and I think it's only best to play it. I was initially ecstatic about the fact that titanium had been given to eCanada and will be one of, if not the most important resource in the new version upcoming. However, now it seems as if everyone is afraid to do anything in case we lose our precioussss titaniums. People fail to realize that occupation of a country, especially one as isolated as ours, will last 2-3 weeks, a month tops. With the 10 MPPS France has on us, they could potentially invade us and succeed however I have already said my money is on that not happening. A more likely scenario is them ending up being completely taken over by us. Either way, I leave this paragraph with the fact that my most proudest moment in this game is taking the plunge into this war on France. And while I am no longer in power, I will still be leading military affairs as Chief Warrant Officer in nea milosu's cabinet and rest assured, I will help lead eCanada to victory.

I remember the very first thing that I had to deal with right after I was elected into the highest office eCanada has to offer. My very good friend, TemujinBC, had decided to send hundreds of CAD to multiple eCanadian citizens as an act of lulz that he couldn't control. I was looking forward to working with Temujin and he had been doing a very good job as Minister of Civil Defense. Unfortunately, this left me with a situation, I didn't want and I had to replace him. I think that the biggest theme of my term (apart from France), would be the never ending scandals that kept arising throughout my term and the tough decisions I would have to make afterwards. The most publicized one that dominated the eCanadian media for 2-3 days was the Long Sword Rebellion, an attempt by the CAF to revitalize eCanadian politics as well as earn some respect for the CAF. While the message was strong, the means of approach was not as the CAF is not supposed to be used as a political tool. Chucky Norris is another good friend of mine that I had to let go as the Minister of Defence. Another problem I had was with Citizen B when he leaked closed door congress information and I had to suspend him for a few days. Some of these decisions may not have been best but I made them to the best of my ability and I put aside personal opinion as a sacrifice to doing the right thing. While some people will disagree, I feel I handled them quite well.

Through months of waiting and waiting for my opportunity to get elected into the Prime Minister's office, it came true this month. I was very excited for this term and while it didn't go as it had originally planned, I am happy with the way it ended up. I had some extreme lows during my term, especially when my activity plunged to near 2-clicker status after the diagnose of cancer with my grandmother. I felt like quitting the game then. However, with my departure from office, my resolve has never been stronger. I will return to my love, the CAF and fight to help eCanada win against France and any other opponents we may see. I ask everyone else in eCanada play with this same attitude and enjoy the war we are in. Finally, there is some excitement once again in our country and it warms my heart everytime I see it.

I bid farewell eCanada and while I will never say never with regards to another term in the future, it won't be for awhile. I envisioned myself leading a Jacobi-like legacy but the dedication and effort required to do a proper job that eCanada deserves prevents me from running during the summer most likely. To my cabinet, you guys did an amazing job this term and I apologize for not interacting more with you guys on the forums and not holding more cabinet meetings. Keep on dedicating your time for the betterment of eCanada and no matter what anybody says, each and every cabinet member is and always will be a true eCanadian. I also want to thank the DAL party and all my supporters in there. They have always put aside their own interests for myself sometimes and I have felt bad sometimes because of it. The support for me over the months has been overwhelming and I can't thank them more. We have had some turmoil times over the last few months but I will never give up on you guys and I look forward to working more with the party.

Goodbye for now, eCanada, keep working hard for our country and we will be rewarded. In this time of war, let's not distance ourselves from one another but come together as one to work together and lead ourselves to victory. Good luck to nea milosu, I have left you in a tough predicament but I will be by your side to help you during these uncertain times. It's been an honour eCanada and my love for this country has never been stronger. A new term, a new chapter in the pages of our history books and let's all make it a strong one.

Sincerely,
Derek Harland
eCanadian President for 6 more hours.
