[Fi4PoNZ] What the @#!* do I plan to do?

Day 1,108, 17:37 Published in New Zealand USA by Fionia

In the last article, the first of my three-part PoNZ platform, you found out who I am as a person. This article is going to focus on policy goals. The final part, to be either published on the 3rd or the 4th, will focus on my cabinet (including my VP) and why I chose them.

So let’s get to it.

Resources

With the way resources are set up now, it’s not beneficial for a country to have more than one of the same resource. It’s more beneficial to have as many different types of resources as possible. As it stands right now, food production is a major part of out economy. We have a grain and deer region (Auckland and Wellington), but two iron regions (Canterbury and Otago). By trading Otago for Tasmania, we gain a food resource and Australia gains iron. It’s an idea that has already been suggested and is being considered, but if it is not done by the start of my term, I will absolutely do it as long as it is feasible.

Now that’s an easy policy choice to point out. I’m not just here for easy choices, though.

Chile has fish resources (currently) in Zona Austral, Zona Sur, Chimor, Lima, and Mid Andes. Even just counting their original regions, they still have 2 fish regions, which is one more than they actually need.

There are two ways to look at this, and I intend to use both (again, if economically feasible). The first way, and my first choice, is to get our Foreign Affairs department negotiating with the Chilean government to work out a way for us to have one of those regions. This presents an interesting challenge of us not having a region that we could give them in return. But that’s what the negotiations are for, finding a reasonable solution.

If that doesn’t work, I feel it’s time for the NZDF to flex its strength. I think New Zealand needs to get itself into an actual war, not a training war, if you catch my drift.

Neutrality

For New Zealand, neutrality is not a matter of being against either Phoenix or EDEN. Rather, it is a desire to maintain a personal military agenda, and pursue wars and battles that support New Zealand’s interests. To support that ideal of neutrality, however, it is important that neither of the global alliances have cause to believe that we’re in support of the other alliance. If Phoenix considers New Zealand to be a fief of EDEN, or if EDEN believes we’re Phoenix’s vassal, they will take action. With both EDEN and Phoenix at our doorstep any break from that neutrality could be met with swift defeat.

At the same time, however, we need to have battles. This game is becoming more and more totally centered around war. We cannot afford to see “New Zealand is not involved in any active battles.” on the homepage for 3 or 4 days or even a week at a time.

We want to keep our MPPs balanced, but we also want them to be active MPPs.

In that same vein, I recognize that our MPPs are currently decidedly pro-Phoenix. If Phoenix attempts to sign more MPPs without proper negotiation, my administration will take action to maintain our sovereignty and neutrality, up to and including signing MPPs with the express intent of cancelling out Phoenix MPPs. It is not my desire to be hostile towards Phoenix, but they will respect the right of New Zealand to make its own choices.

When looking to counter-balance our Phoenix MPPs with EDEN there are several possibilities. One would be trying to get an MPP with the eUS again. However appealing that might be, it’s not our best option. That MPP would interfere with being able to run training wars and resource swaps with Australia, and there’s no good reason to sign an MPP for 100 gold just to have it be cancelled out.

Canada is the country I have my eyes on, personally. They are very active right now, invading the UK. They are definitely non-PHX. We have, in fact, approached them before, without much success. I am prepared to make whatever concessions are within reason to get this MPP. We cannot continue the current state of affairs and keep calling ourselves neutral.

This of course leads to the question of whether we are going to have 2 or 3 MPPs, and if we have two, which PHX one we should drop. That is something that will be considered, and that I can’t say yet.

Domestic Issues

More is more. Strong nations are founded on a more active populace, bringing in more taxes, producing more damage on the battlefield, making the game more interesting, getting people more involved, making the game more fun. Find a way to improve on any of these and you will inevitably improve on all of them.

It is then simply a matter of starting from somewhere, and finding ways to add to the game. I’ve already promised you I’d bring New Zealand new regions and resources. Those investments will pay dividends, creating a more robust economy from which to draw revenue without a need for higher taxation. But what else?

I’ll be establishing a Ministry of Citizen Aid (which is combining/expanding the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Fun) to mentor new citizens and provide food and wellness to those in need. The Ministry of Citizen Aid will also distribute food, and possibly weapons, during significant battles, helping our citizens not currently serving in the military a chance to participate and rank up. But what else?

The Citizen Reports and Electronic Dataentry eNZ Agency, otherwise known as CREDeNZA has been established to provide real-time tracking and communication with all of New Zealand’s citizens. We can identify citizens in need of assistance before they even ask for help, reach out to them, and increase retention, quickly and easily. Better yet, CREDeNZA has the potential to provide opportunities for dozens of citizens to become involved in government administration, increasing retention even further.

On another topic: Doing the NZ Nightly News Series has let me see something very clearly. We have the same handful of people writing about the same handful of topics, and, quite frankly, it’s getting boring. I want to encourage new writers to start writing, and I want people exploring new topics. I tried running a media contest at one point, but I don’t personally have the funds to do that extensively. I’ll be working with my Minister of Media to figure out how best to get the journalists of New Zealand inspired, be it a contest or some other way.

In addition, while I can hardly promise to write an article every day, I can promise that you will get regular updates from my administration. We want to keep you informed and interested.

Military

The military is apolitical. It’s not my job to interfere with the inner workings of it. I will, though, still have 3 military strategists forming the Military High Council, and a Minister of Defense to moderate between the (political) Cabinet and the (apolitical) NZDF.

Let me clarify: The way the military chooses to organize itself is its own decision. But I am the Commander in Chief. I won't tell the military which COs to discharge or promote, but if I give orders to fight in a certain battle, I expect that to be followed.

Other military topics, I’ve already covered when talking about resources and neutrality.

Economics

I’ll admit, economics isn’t my strong suit. I plan to leave decisions in this area to my Minister of Finance and Congress (who, between taxes and donations, control the economy more than the President anyways).

New Zealand’s Citizens

I am quite honestly sick of the accusations and counter-arguments that keep flying back and forth between different groups of people here.

Here’s where I stan😛 if you do work that is beneficial to New Zealand, I will like you. It’s that simple. If you want trust, show that you deserve it.

If you do the work (helping NZ), you will get the reward (trust), at least in my eyes. And I would hope that my fellow NZers feel the same way.

Well, this is an incredibly long article, but I think I’ve finally run out of things to say. I hope you appreciate the depth and specificity of this article. I’m not just here making vague generalizations that somebody from any country could make. I’ve got sincere, concrete plans.

I hope for your support on the 5th.

Signing off,
