[FAQ]The Difference in Armchair and Elected

Day 821, 09:27 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Dishmcds
As I sip my morning coffee, here are some things that I received that I found neat. Some of these came from my own troops, some from allies, some from regular joes. I figured the easiest place to address them is out in the public.

1. OMG. We were winning!

No. We were on the offensive against two countries, and EDEN still shared a border with London. Did they make some tactical mistakes? Sure. Who knows how long it would have taken them to correct it. We were not "winning". No one was technically "winning" anything. We have turned, in a span of two months, from a full assault on the UK to the "Turkey/Greece" conflict. 6 months from now, Phoenix and the UK will thank everyone responsible for closing these wars, as it will only serve to drain damage elsewhere.

2. The Americans were out of Gold!

Once again, no. While the US has indeed spent quite a bit on this war, as has EDEN in general with the various countermoves and attacks they have initiated, they were not out of money. The truth is, it would have cost EDEN dearly to take us out completely, which was inevitable if they had to go through the entire war. Our allies have been great, but even your Presidents, and MoD's know that had they been able to surround London on two fronts, much like they did with Lower Normandy in France, the UK would have disappeared, along with the income and revenue it generates not only for ourselves, but for Phoenix.

3. Why didn't you tell anyone!

We did. We spoke with several people in Phoenix last week when the negotiations started, including our Supreme Commander. Let's make something very clear:

The UK is not Germany or France. We are not being invaded by two or three countries. We're being invaded by six. They don't make a game mechanic magical enough to continuously block six other nations without another country intervening. If France still existed, perhaps as it could occupy the US and Spain, making it easier to control our own regions, and still get to Poland.

But it doesn't. We're still in a war we can't get on top of, due to not being able to be free to roam. Even if we managed to get back to full size, it only means we'd either have to activate someone else's MPPs, or let them block us a day later. That doesn't help anyone.

4. You're giving up on Europe!

No. We're closing our direct wars, so we won't be able to attack through Europe, but we couldn't do that now anyway. We can help France and Germany in other means, through MPPs, resistance and border wars, and other various techniques, but you can't play a game without following the mechanics. We're not bff's with anyone here, and there's no contract involved. We chose not to do the contract merely because of the fact that they are unenforceable in game, and basically useless. The point of this is to close our wars, and then go from there in how we, as an Alliance, approach our battles. Our Supreme Commander, Battalgazi, also agrees with this, as does most involved in the daily tactical planning of our battles.

Since those are the four most frequent questions, there are your answers. Looking at it from a rational point of view, the decision that Presidents Frost, Sebulba, Meleni, CFGauss, jb, and myself chose to make were the correct ones. Being emotional in an internet strategy game doesn't lend itself to success very often, perhaps some should consider that before making statements.

After all, we were there to help all our allies when they needed it, we were right along with the victories in North of Brazil and Liaoning, and were just as important as any Phoenix nation in it's current form. Forgetting that wouldn't be too smart.

Prime Minister

Also, of small note: An impeachment was proposed by Johnobrow Dadds today, because he's emotionally challenged. I challenge him to a little game I've started in the forums, entitled "So you think you can dance."

I'd say he probably won't bother to show or participate, because that's kind of his style (you know, shouting a massively biased fake opinion and then backing away from it), but who knows. Any Congressman or woman who thinks the same is also welcome to participate.
