[eUSA-MoFA] A Message To Bulgaria

Day 1,167, 04:42 Published in USA USA by St Krems

Dear Citizens of Bulgaria,

Roughly a week ago I gave an interview to my friend, dark.templar, for his newspaper. You can find the actual article here, but the bit I’d specifically like to discuss is this:

[darktemplar] a question from a friend : There are rummors [sic] that you'll use Vidin as a strategic American zone on the Balkans. How would you comment that and if this is true how will you compensate the Bulgarians
[15:32] [darktemplar] :?
12[16:12] [Krems] I can't really comment on an ongoing military opperation
12[16:12] [Krems] but I can assure you that we will not enter any allies country unless invited
12[16:12] [Krems] and should that be the case we will be sure to offer some type of compensation
12[16:12] [Krems] we are not hungary, we don't f*** our friends like that 😃

The above has been edited for brevity and language.

What I said there was the truth and should America ever behave differently I shall resign my post as MoFA. We would never dream of entering Bulgaria without your nation’s permission, not just because we are friends, but also because it is simply wrong.

May I explain what I think happened to get to this mess that we are currently in?

My colleague, Colin Lantrip, assures me that Bulgaria knew the plan, and that they had given us permission to go through them for suitable compensation. His word is beyond question, as anyone who has dealt with him before will be able to tell you. However, what I believed has happened is that perhaps the fact we would need Turkey to make these swaps was not made clear to Bulgaria.

I’m willing to admit that this was a mistake that we, as people who are not from your region of the world, made in ignorance. We don’t understand the depths of RL hate you bring into this game and we did not talk to you enough to truly grasp the scope of your anger towards Turkey. For us, using a nation next to us to swap is a simple and obvious thing, but I can understand that RL tensions would complicate such a procedure for countries in more turbulent regions.

From a game mechanics point of view, we need Turkey for any attempt to swap through Bulgaria. If we don’t use Turkey, then all of our MPPs will be canceled which I think everyone can agree is a bad idea. The recent offers from the Bulgarian government to let us swap through without Turkey is a waste of time, and they should know this.

Furthermore, I’d like to address these claims that we would allow Turkey to occupy several of your regions as a ‘reward’ for helping us swap. Firstly, allies do not ‘reward’ allies for helping them, as if they were a type of dog, we are equals in friendship working towards a mutually desirable goal. Secondly, we have never promised this and neither was it the Turkish President’s intention to imply this in his article that has caused so much fuss. If you actually read it, he’s talking about the actual mechanics of the swap,
“1. USA takes region X,
2. Turkey takes region Y,
3. USA takes region Y”.

At no point is long term ownership implied and nor was it meant to be implied, which you could have easily found out by simply asking us or the Turks. In this respect I think we share equal blame, us for poor communication, and you for immediately believing the worst and causing a media uproar over something that could have been handled by simply PMing me.

Why am I writing this? I believe our issues can be worked out, our friendship should not end like this. Would the USA still like to swap through Bulgaria? Yes, but only if you give your full agreement and suitable compensation can be agreed upon. I’m sick of the games of politicians, played behind closed doors away from the citizens and so I make this appeal directly to you and not to your leaders. You, the people, can decide for yourselves what you would like to have happen and tell your leaders. It’s their job to represent you after all.

I respectfully await your answer, and should you choose to say no I hope that there will be no hard feelings from your side, because I know there won’t be any from mine.

Yours sincerely,

St Krems
eUSA Minister of Foreign Affairs And Knight of the Order of The Thistle

P.S I have asked my friend dark.templar to translate this article and re-post it to the Bulgarian Media. If he agrees to do this I will link it here, please be sure to go and vote it and perhaps comment and maybe even subscribe :>
