March 2008: 313 calls for Unity

Surprise Final Destiny history article! Don’t expect another one after this for another 3 months though cause I’m up up and away on my post University travels very soon. (My flight leaves on Friday.) So here be another Chapter of my Chronicles of the United Kingdom in Erepublik. For those that missed the first few instalments they can be found here:

Now we open the chronicles to March 2008. The final month before the War Module gets released and the eWorld gets a new toy to play with.

The month began as any month did in Beta times. With a general election to vote for a President and party to lead them into the coming month. As stated in my last history article the main contenders were Kaleb the incumbent President and AdamLazaruso of the 313 Republikan Party. The result was a strong victory for Kaleb. I was lucky enough to find my old article reporting the results. For those that can’t be bothered with the task of clicking that link here was how Congress stood.

1. UKRP (83) 39.52%
2. 313RP (77) 36.67%
3. PCP (24) 11.43%
4. TRP (14) 6.67%
5. UAP (12) 5.71%

The number of congressmen won by each party:
1. UKRP: 15
2. 313RP:14
3. PCP: 4
4: TRP: 2
5: UAP: 2

The UK Reform party continued it’s coalition with both the Peoples Communist Party and The Right Party giving the government 57.62% of the Congress. 313RP and UAP (United Action Party) also had a loose coalition in place but it came to nothing in the end.

The Peoples Communist Party had an impressive debut election beating The Right Party by some margin to third place.

Kaleb continued his policy of appointing people to Ministries from within the coalition that voted him in. Which sparked what would happen next in the 313 Camp come Party Elections. Paul Hudson ran for Party President of 313 Republikan Party with the backing of myself (Final Destiny) among others. He won and immediately myself and Paul had a meeting to discuss the future of the party.

The Unity Party was born after we both agreed on the name and a key principles that has stuck ever since. We appoint people on merit and not by whom they vote for in elections or what party they come from. More power to the congress and Mayors in decision making in the United Kingdom. The Unity Party was born and the stigma of 313 that put off many people from joining was removed. The Unity Party moved it’s party headquarters to the eUK forums away from GameFAQs. Ending a division of the eUK community.

Enough rambling though. I was appointed Deputy Leader under Paul Hudson. (Essentially making me the Shadow of Shadow funny ay?) Organising discussions on our next Manifesto and whipping our Mayoral candidates into shape. So that we could have strong competent Mayors in Local Government and the Regional Council.

Local Elections saw me stand down in Belfast and as a result end my term as Regional Council President. This was because I was planning to run for Mayor of London next month and improve London in ways I improved Belfast. Though that’s a tale for next months chronicle. The Local Elections saw the following Mayors electe😛

Belfast: Ste93 (The Unity Party)
Birmingham: Jonathan (The Unity Party)
Bristol: Chrisclamp (The Unity Party)
Cardiff: mattslaw (UK Reform)
Edinburgh: lightwave (UK Reform)
Leeds: Giovanne (UK Reform) (Croatian Wing of UKRP)
Liverpool: Smartbomb (UK Reform)
London: shadowukcs (UK Reform)
Newcastle upon Tyne: Malcovent (UK Reform)
Norwich: JosephByrne (The Right Party)
Nottingham: Jaehlst (The Unity Party)
Oxfor😛 kingofapples (UK Reform)

UKRP: 7 Mayors (+3)
TUP: 4 Mayors (-2)
TRP: 1 Mayor (-)
PCP: 0 Mayors (-1)

The loss of the 313 vote caused a collapse in TUP turnout. Resulting in UK Reform gaining control of the Regional Council. Smartbomb was elected as my successor as Regional Council President. The re-branding of 313 to TUP was going through some teething troubles. PCP also lost their only Mayor in this election.

Now unfortunately from here on in I am missing the original sources. Cause of the loss of Press Releases in the great fire of V1 which unfortunately was always Kaleb’s and Paul’s favourite medium of communication. So you’ll have to bare with me if things get a little funky from here on out. I’m going by memory alone.

This month saw Kaleb implement a new position in Government due to his ever decreasing amount of time he can spend on Erepublik. The role of Prime Minister which was given to a citizen named Dennis. The role of Prime Minister was to sort out the domestic cabinet while he worked on Foreign Affairs. This was criticised by The Unity Party as making the President more or less a figurehead. None the less the position was made by Kaleb and Dennis began running cabinet.

March also saw the famous Lakrisal theft of funds. Lakrisal a citizen with less than a handful of forum posts was given the position of Ministry of Health. Giving him access to 3000 GBP which he took and donated to Sweden. Both Kaleb and Dennis agreed that he was a “Good Candidate” for the post. Resulting in criticism of the vetting process of Ministers. From this point onwards for quite some time we made it so you had to be in Congress to become a Minister and get access to such funds. The 3000 GBP was returned to the UK after Kaleb discussed the situation with the Swedish President at the time. So in the end no harm was done and it made Kaleb’s administration much more careful with who it would appoint to the Ministries.

The main story of this month was Kaleb announced that the April elections would be the last time he would run for President of the United Kingdom. With this announcement would the United Kingdom stick with their retiring President or opt for the fresh new ticket of Hudson and Destiny. Tune in in but 3 months time to find out. (Or spoil your fun by looking it up on the Wiki if you want to be a loser.)
