Incaiera-i drace!
Right now the crap has hit the fan in the Hungarian community. The reason is the secret peace treaty negotiated by the Szekler-dominated government of eHungary with the government of eRomania.
The Real Life Szeklers are a Hungarian-speaking population living right in the middle of Romania. For many historical reasons not worth detailing here, most of the RL Szeklers consider themselves to be different than the rest of the Hungarians.
In game some of them play for eHungary, mostly in the so-called "Szekler Legion". The others play for eRomania, either as part of the Romanian regular army units or as spies infiltrated in eHungary. This mirrors closely the RL common history, where on many occasions the Szeklers fought on both sides during the Romanian-Hungarian conflicts. This should not come as a surprise since eRepublik is a computer game played by Real Life people...
This being said, it shouldn't come as a surprise either that a Szekler president of eHungary (RL Romanian citizen) and his government initiated contact with the eRomanian government and negotiated the following agreement:
1. Day 1255: At 02:30 eRep time, Romania attacks Maramures. Hungary will not fight and [will] cede the battle. The time when the battle end will be named time-A.
2. Day 1256: After more then 23 hours pass from time-A, Romania attacks Dobrogea. Hungary will not fight and [will] cede the battle. Then time when the battle end will be named time-B.
3. Day 1257: The battle for Dobrogea ends after 02:30 eRep time.
4. Both countries removes Natural Enemy from each other.
5. Day 1258: After more then 23 hours pass from time-B, Romania attacks Crisana. Hungary will not fight and [will] cede the battle.
6. After the atack, Hungary will propose the peace law.
7 Day 1259: The war will be closed after 14:40 eRep time.
8. At any time, starting from day 1261, Romania will start a resistance war in Crisana. Hungary will not fight and [will] cede the battle.
9. During the period between days 1254 -1261, Romania will not fight in any resistance wars started in Maramures, Dobrogea or Crisana. [This provision seems to limit the Romanian options. Actually it doesn't. The eRomanian strategy was always to have a direct fight in parallel with a RW. If the Hungarians would have fought strongly at any time during the direct battle, the agreement would have been void and eRomania would have opened the RW immediately]
10. Romania and Hungary will not start again a direct war between them until day 1263, 06:00 eRep time. This is the time the current presidential mandates end.
To put it short, the Hungarian government offered the last 3 regions for free, in exchange of a peace treaty and the removal of the Natural Enemy on both sides.
The eRomanian government was very skeptical the Szeklers would be able to persuade the rest of the Hungarian population to accept the deal. But hey, why not give it a try, since those guys thought they could pull it off?!
- In the worst case scenario, if the peace agreement would have failed, eRomania would have continued to free those regions by force, like it was doing it already;
- In the best case scenario, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia would have all declared Serbia as their NE and gang-bang it together with EDEN and Terra. The Hungarians would have had a hard time explaining that peace treaty and the resulting gang-bang to their Serbian allies. eHungary has a long track record of selfishly following her own interests at the expense of her allies anyway.
Now what exactly would have been those selfish interests which would have justified making peace with eRomania?
We cannot know for sure because we can't read their minds. But there are elements which indicate several possible targets:
1. To get grain and deer by renting them from Slovakia.
Slovakia is a puppet state controlled by the Poles, so even if EDEN + Terra would RW those regions, Hungary would get them back quite easily. Slovakia was mentioned during the peace negotiations as an alternative to the grain of Crisana and the deer of Maramures;
2. To cross Ukraine on the way to Russia
Many Hungarians still believe they have some unfinished business with the "ungrateful" Russians. They have seen how easily the Serbs had plowed through Russia and calculated that a joint Polish-Hungarian attack would work better than the Serbian solo against Russia. After all, the Serbs themselves were quite uncomfortable with fighting their long time Phoenix comrade, Russia, while neither Poland nor Hungary harbor any Real Life sympathy for Russia. Actually the opposite is true.
So they maybe figured out that it would be quite easy to do better than the Serbs, especially since their route through Ukraine would have crossed regions the Ukrainians can happily rent because they aren't vital for their economy.
My personal opinion is either plan was extremely naive: Romania was free to attack Hungary during the next presidential term. In the mean time the Serbs would have suffered the consequences of being left hanging dry by their Hungarian "brothers". Which means at the time Romania would have attacked Hungary, the Serbs might have been less enthusiastic about helping.
In addition to that, both Ukraine and Russia started to cooperate indirectly: right now both countries fight for the liberation of Belarus. As old wounds heal between Russia and Ukraine, it becomes harder for the Hungarians to cross Ukraine unopposed.
Besides the above-mentioned strategic reasons for accepting that "humiliating" peace with Romania, we also need to factor in what I have said before: eRepublik is a computer game played by Real People. It can't be too comfortable for the Szeklers to find themselves on opposite sides, some fighting for Romania and some for Hungary.
Final note:
The reason why we, the eRomanian government, decided to make public the final version of the proposed peace treaty is to dispel some legends circulating in the Hungarian media:
1. No, we didn't bribe the Szeklers to make them "sell" those provinces. Or to "sell" eHungary in general. It was 100% their idea to contact us with the peace proposal;
2. Yes, it is true we have also demanded the fruit region of Southern Great Plain (SGP) in exchange for the peace treaty. However the Szecklers told us that the general Hungarian population won't accept the deal and their own situation in eHungary was already complicated because of negotiating with us. We therefore didn't insist on that demand. We knew that after wiping out Serbia we will be able to get SGP easily. And to get the aluminum from Budapest as well.
Now since the rest of the Hungarians weren't willing to cede Maramures without a good fight, the whole agreement is dead. For us will be "business as usual", kicking them out of our provinces like we did before. How exactly they will explain everything to the Serbs, that's their problem.
As for the future of the Szekler-Hungarian relations after those "treacherous" negotiations, that would be a very interesting soap opera to watch.

there are no secrets in this game : )
I wouldn't trust hungarians, they have a plan and i don't think that they will leave Serbia alone.
Nobody trusts Hungary, and the deal is off anyway. But it is fun even now that is dead.
@DragoshiQ: why do you think Hungary's plan involves Serbia?

This would be a nice change, getting tired of fighting hungary over and over seriously...
LOLd
Some time ago, Hungary has sold Russia, now they've sold serbs.They are crazy or what?
Strongly doubt it.
Plus, a peace with Hungary is not a bad thing. At least we can concentrate on something else (Turkey, Loland, Spain).
I find this story interesting.
By the other hand it is hard to understand why a government would ever exhibit in public any kind of a "secret" treaty even if it failed. Such exposure will of course instigate some of the Hungarian population and maybe even some naive Serbs against the so called "szekler" leadership of Hungary, indeed... but if I were them I would never, never ever, make any kind of deal or negotiations with the Romanian government with it's secrets leaking all over diplomatic structure.
So all I hope is that we have a nice sample of trolling here, otherwise this way to do diplomacy is unfit. I cannot see what the Szekler president did wrong... the state structure made what promissed; they can not fully control the population. Or can you, dear Government, in Romania? I doubt.
So, I like the article and dislike the message that will come back from our negotiating partners - friend or enemies, does not matter, we are just breaking an old rule that allows people to make gentleman's agreements by shaking hands.
There are many contradicting points regarding the history of the Szeklers. Some historians say that they arrived in Europe before the Magyars but that they were denationalized by those.
Others say that they are as old as Romanians on this planes and that they actually are of Dacian descent and even have their own alphabet.
Maybe its time for the Szeklers to stop fighting for the oppressor, for the ones who stole their language and start fighting for their own history and customs. Szekler, you can be your own master!
the "bomb" is gonna hit the fan soon in ONE! 😁

@malion...yeah, that's funny coming from a bulgarian...hahaha
@Hatszeg
It is quite funnier that you used to call us that way : )
@kozak misi....Let him who is without sin cast the first stone...sounds familiar??
@Hatszeg:
Very familiar. That's precisely why I'm unloading a cart of stones on eHungary's track record. No other country can match your prowess when it comes to abusing, betraying and taking advantage of your allies. Not even the UK.
lol
Nici nu e de mirare de ce ii considera ungurii din ungaria pe astia din harcov tigani : )
@Alter Dio (part II):
The Szekler government of Hungary was absolutely wrong on 3 accounts:
1. Making peace with Romania was extremely unpopular in Hungary, where most of the players joined the game and stay in the game only to "avenge Trianon". They should know better since they are fighting on the Hungarian side for that very reason;
2. Making peace with Romania at the cost of abandoning Maramures, Crisana and Dobrogea without the Hungarian army fighting there would add insult to the above-mentioned injury. Only some extremely naive people would have imagined that those "Nem! Nem! Soha!" and "Vesszen Trianon" guys would accept peace with Romania AND the return of the occupied provinces for _free_.
Yes, I fully understand that somebody who plays against his own RL country in a browser game, who thinks the Trianon Treaty was unfair and who calls the Romanians "Yeti" and "Hairy Feet" is not exactly able to think straight. But still, there are some limits also in delusional reasoning. Or at least there should be;
3. Removing Romania from the list of NE until the next presidential term would have allowed us to happily gang-bang Serbia. And for what were they abandoning the Serbs? For some Slovakian regions, taken without any fight from a puppet state?
The Szekler government of Hungary was absolutely wrong on 1 account: they thought they can have ANY type of diplomatic negotiation with romanians. As you can see in this paper.
We would never, never ever, make any kind of deal or negotiations with the Romanian government with it's secrets leaking all over diplomatic structure.
That's all, gentlemen and kozak misi.
@gyika:
He, he, the articles accusing you Szeklers of "betrayal" and "selling out" were first published in the _Hungarian_ media by your very own trolls.
Whose fault is it you guys spread the logs all around? _NO_ article was published in Romania about those negotiations before yesterday at midnight, when the deal was officially off anyway. By that time the crap had already hit the fan in your media.
Next time be more careful with your logs. Actually it won't hurt you to _ALWAYS_ be careful with your logs. We keep receiving very juicy stuff. And as you have seen in the last battles, we put all the information to good use.
kozak misi roman KULUGYI diplomata.
Ez mindent elmond a roman diplomaciarol.
gyika, if it's true what mihai cazacu says, then it's not such a bad diplomatic fault.
Although, I still believe that this article shouldn't have been written, especially from someone in the government. Secret treaties most remain secret, even if they fail.
Everybody knows Szeklers are not hungarians , they were only magyarized. Honestly speaking they are more closed to romanians than to hungarians .

If the secret treaty fails, it shouldn't be made public.
On the other hand, if the secret treaty fails to be a secret, then I think the e-government should be able to straighten things out. This is what happened above.
But I do think that the tone of this article should have been a little more neutral, it's too ironic for an official response/clarification.
cazacule, mai astept de la tine ceva concret. sau ai uitat si iar ai gura mare?
@puff152:
Nothing was secret anymore after the Hungarian media started to publish information leaked by their own guys.
The problem with those leaks was the Hungarian "tabloids" were accusing the negotiators of "betraying Hungary" while they were actually betraying...Serbia.
They were also accusing the Szeklers of receiving bribes from Romania while no money were offered. Or asked.
There are RL tensions between the Szeklers and the Hungarians and those tensions also spilled over into the game. This article at least sets the record straight:
1. The Szeklers only betrayed the Serbs, not Hungary. But this is quite understandable given there is little RL love between Serbia and Hungary. The guys who are unhappy Transylvania is Romanian are also unhappy Vojvodina is Serbian.
The in-game Serbian-Hungarian alliance is therefore as "natural" as it was the former Bulgarian-Turkish alliance. No wonder the Serbs didn't lift a finger for the defense of Heilongjiang or that the Hungarians didn't bother to help the Serbs to cross into the USA.
The Szeklers probably believed the Serbian-Hungarian alliance is going to die soon anyway. So why not put Hungary's interests first?
Gaining grain and deer from Slovakia and keeping it brings two bonuses to the Hungarian economy. And those bonuses can be useful when the already strained Serbian-Hungarian alliance will disintegrate;
2. The Szeklers didn't ask for bribes. They didn't even ask for Romania to buy back those provinces. They only wanted to obtain a peace treaty and the bilateral removal of the Natural Enemy status.
@abuh01:
1. La ce te referi, "draghe"?
2. Orice informatie oficiala ai solicita, trebuie sa deschizi cererea cu "Nem! Nem! Soha!" si sa o inchei cu "Veszen Trianon!" Stii bine ca asta este formatul corect de comunicare ungaro-romana. Apropo, trebuie sa soliciti si translator, ca Csibi Barna.
3. Daca vrei ca sa-ti procesam solicitarea in regim de urgenta, pune-l si pe "Vitéz" (LOL!) nagybányai Horthy Miklós la avatar. In joc, asta este echivalentul unui timbru fiscal.

Good to know. Thanks, Mihai.
And yet, we need to be creative! We really need some changing in Natural Enemy selection from time to time 🙂
Just imagine what we can achieve if this "Hungarian-Romanian Peace" will work a while...
ok lol)
the Hungarian government offered the last 3 regions for free, in exchange of a peace treaty and the removal of the Natural Enemy on both sides.....sunt curios care sunt reactiile sarbilor si polonezilor 😁)... cred ca au arsuri
