Today, I have returned to public office after a long absence. My goal is to restore energy to our government, with an active Congress that communicates with the citizens. To this end, I want to restore the office of Speaker of the Diet to its former glory. Our older citizens might remember that we used to have an active Speaker of Congress who kept debate going in the national forums and posted reports in the media so that ordinary citizens could stay in touch. I'm hoping we can revive this practice and move into a newer wave of energy and activity.

Things will never be exactly the same as in the old days, but by moving forward, ever forward, we can ensure our bright future. If we work together, draw in those who wish to take part, and inspire those who need a meaningful connection, we cannot fail.
