[EDEN] The Spy Who Loved Us

Day 906, 12:58 Published in South Africa Greece by Greek Ministry of Health
Probably avec’s last article, Memoirs of a MI-6 spy, shocked most of you. It shocked me to be exact, no, I’m adding to that, it shocked the hell out of me and I desperately PM-ed him to understand what in the world was going on. Well he responded and I got bolder, eager to actually find out a thing or two about our beloved commander. The things I unraveled so far…

The Supreme Commander's taste in cars has been adding to the spy rumours.

For the sake of us all avec, your article cause quit a stir in the New World confusing a lot of people, it confused me, can you share a bit of insight on what this is all about ?
- First of all, me being called a British spy is an ages old meme in eFinland, stemming from me coming from the eUK. I always wanted to use that in some form as I achieved several high ranking positions in the Finnish society. After I was elected as the Supreme Commander, the meme of me being a spy became funny.
So, I wrote an article of it, and made parody of both alliances. People wondered why I trolled both EDEN and Phoenix. I wanted to show self-irony, and admit a lot of mistakes we've done during the last months are a lot my fault. In my opinion also, if an alliance or a country can't into self-irony, then it's not a worthy alliance. People should have seen it straight off the article was meant to be a joke and a satire, and some people did, for what I commend them. Call it a publicity stunt if you wish - I for one had a lot of fun to follow the show the article created.

But then again you fooled a lot of people, I remember reading the comments and some of them really bought the story, you made me worry a moment or two. Should we expect any more articles of this sort, or it's just a one time deal?
- You never know. I reserved my own newspaper for my own ponderings, not simply for EDEN propaganda, which was the case this time. It's not as effective, nor inspiring to write everything in words of one syllable, as it is to write a satire. So, similar articles might come, you just have to learn to read them in a correct context.

To get on to more serious matters, the EDEN offensive, or Operation World in Flames as you dubbed it, was a success so far, is there a continuation to the plan or this was it, simple and fast?
- I've read both critique and praise for the campaign so far. There'll be a more encompassing article on the core idea of the campaign some time soon, so I won't go into further details. So far we managed to ravage Hungary, take back Western Australia, liberate Heilongjiang and push Serbia into corner, while our own cores are still intact. To answer your question, our job is not done until we've liberated Liaoning, and pushed Phoenix back to its cores.

Being the Supreme Commander of EDEN and all that, how did you feel to see that you plan was becoming a rapid success? How did it feel to see all that all your objectives are slowly starting to take shape ? I’m asking this because I’m awfully jealous.
- Following and steering this campaign has been the best time I have ever had in eRepublik. For me, this campaign isn't just about single battles, it's the bigger picture I look at. I don't care about single battles being won or lost, gold being spent, that is all irrelevant. People are having fun, and EDEN has a common goal to pursue again. That I see as a great accomplishment, and the fact that World in Flames has succeeded in the objectives I wanted it to succeed in, is just marvelous. In short, it feels awesome.

I bet it felt nothing short of amazing, but what went into planning such a large scale operation, I'm talking about the actual hours spent thinking about this, devising a plan that pretty much changed the history of the New World as we know it ?
- I'm not sure it can be measured simply in hours. It's more of a way of thinking that resulted in the plan to conceive in my head, and afterwards the daily movements on the map we're done mostly on the fly. To me the plan is being created as time flies by, but it's set goals were thought through inside an hour - the way to accomplish the goals is another thing though, and that has taken a lot more time to think through, with errors being done in the process.

I'm turning to your position in EDEN again while I'm asking a simple question, why do you think EDEN should win this war?
- As an alliance, EDEN is better off economically and in military terms, so in long term, odds are we are going to win if we maintain the offensive. On principal level, EDEN is seeking to liberate regions Phoenix countries have taken from other countries, and aims to cripple those countries' ability to wage war by ravaging them and destroying their economy. To do this serves the interests of all EDEN countries, and countries that are on our side.

Do you have any thoughts to share for those EDEN and Phoenix soldiers who're fighting it out all around the world?
- Yes, I have. Consider this: in this campaign, most countries in EDEN have gotten to participate in direct or non-direct wars, generating fun and interest for the entire alliance. We wiped the floor with Hungary, and deprived Phoenix of all their foreign high regions except Liaoning. Phoenix on the other hand is on the run, and in the past all their military campaigns concentrated on getting more high regions and economic and strategic positions to just Hungary and Serbia. Phoenix should think its priorities through before committing to campaigns, as clearly their objectives only involve the same few countries always, and not all who belong to it. I wouldn't want to be in an alliance that is dedicated to be just a tool for the strongest countries in it, that threatens its members with retaliation attack and PTO if they don't cooperate.

This being said, do you have any message for your counterpart in Phoenix?
- Great moments are born from great opportunities, and that's what we had in front of us, an opportunity to cripple Phoenix and everything it stood for, an opportunity to liberate countries which were basically enslaved, an opportunity for victory. The only thing that I would say to the Phoenix SG is a Latin quote: adde parvum parvo magnus acervus erit - Add a little to a little and there will be a great heap. We added a little to a little, we fought for our countries, we fought for EDEN and we won. Good luck to you all especially to eSerbia and eHungary.

Thanks avec, but most of all thanks EDEN !
