[DoE]The Country President Elections

President : the most important person in state policy.

In this article, we explore the role and function of the Country President (CP) - the highest elected official in the country. Like in many parts of this game, there are parallels with the real world. Society gives authority to the Country President by voting in elections.

FUNCTION OF THE COUNTRY PRESIDENT

An eRepublik Country President may propose laws and and perform actions such as:
- Offer other countries to forge an alliance (called a Mutual Protection Pact or MPP).

- Declare wars (including Natural Enemy and Airstrikes), and propose peace. This function and the MPP proposal are generally the core functions of a Country President in terms of game mechanics.

- Impose a trade embargo on other country.

- Re-write the new citizen greeting.

- Appoint Ministers (such as Minister of Foreign Affairs), to perform government functions. These appointments are nominal - Ministers have no additional game function. They do, however, accrue authority and often gain access to certain national organisations to exercise their authority.

A Country President performs all their functions until the end of his term. Or until an impeachment succeeds.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

Elections for Country President take place on the 5th of each month (that’s tomorrow, after game day change, or 3pm AEST).

If you want to be the head of state, certain minimum requirements exist, such as:
- You must reach level 18. This is not a difficult requirement if you think you can tackle the Presidency.

- You must be endorsed by the president of party which party is one of the top 5 parties.

- You must win the election!

If all conditions are met, including probably the last (unless no-one else will run…), you are already Mr. President (or Ms. President).

If you can see of a good candidate running and nurse utopian dreams of the government headed by him/her, then you definitely need to vote for your choice in the election! If you don’t, the other guy might win and bring awful dystopia down on your head…

So, how to vote?

On the 5th of each month a big blue and white box appears. Clicking on it and you will have access to the voting polls. You will see the list of candidates prepared to work for their country. Check out the candidates, most will publish some sort of mainfesto beforehand, and vote for the one!

However, there is such a thing as a dictatorship…

DICTATORSHIP

I have a sour face. Maybe that's why they say I'm a dictator - Augusto Pinochet.

Dictatorship - a form of government where the dictator has all the power.

Dictatorship - a form of government in eAustralia.

Dictatorship is the result of a military coup. Consider the features of the dictatorship.

During the dictatorship all authority of the Country President and the Congress is transferred to the dictator.

While the President and congressmen don’t officially lose their positions, they are effectively powerless as long as the Dictator is ruling the country. The congressmen and the President cannot propose or vote any laws, or give out citizenships. The President also loses all the control in wars, campaigns etc. In short, their roles and positions are purely cosmetic.

New elections are held normally, but no gold is awarded for the elected congressmen or Presidents. Achievements still accrue to the citizen profiles though.

Dictators have practically all the power in the country. They can single handedly pass any law. There are only two laws the Dictators cannot touch: a law for changing the new citizen message and a law for impeaching the President.

The Dictator can initiate any other laws and he/she will be the only one voting in them. 24 hours is still required for a law to pass. This 24 hour rule is kept in order to maintain a balance in the game and to avoid breaking game mechanics such as mutual protection pact laws.

A Dictator can grant an extra 50% of the citizenship passes the country’s Congress is entitled to during the current term. This amount is guaranteed even if the congressmen had previously spent some or all of them. The shareable part of citizenship passes reset after Congress elections.

So, it's time to get acquainted with the candidates and make their choice.

Whoever you support. Please...Vote!
