[CP] The Folly of Natural Enemy

When Congress says they want “war” I can only assume they are joking. There can’t be that many selfish people in our Congress, after all.

Australia would tell you we have war. Portugal would tell you we have war. Argentina would tell you we have war. I can’t think of a single second that we haven’t had war for Canadian citizens to participate in. “Oh,” but the asses say, “our allies' battles to not get wiped aren’t interesting enough, they aren’t fun enough. We need a war with the UK because that’s so novel and new!”

Of course it can’t be about region bonuses. We were able to keep them before because we had the help of France to put them down and no Poland sitting right besides us to interfere. Points to anyone who can spot France on the map now. People keep pointing out to me that times have changed, Congress isn’t used to letting the CP get his way anymore…I don’t really believe that but fair enough. However, there is no excusing an inability to keep a larger context in mind when voting for a Natural Enemy. Congress should not need me to point out Poland, or a lack of France, or the fact that even today we aren’t the country we were in January.

I think True Patriot medals are really the only legitimate leg for this argument to stand on, but let’s look at it a bit closer. I’ve played with TP medals for about 30 days now, and I’ll need another 4 million or so damage just to grab one, and then 10 million after. Looking at Congress, most of them are in the same boat. So yes, in about 476 hits or about 3 full days of fighting nothing but Canadian battles, I’ll get my next TP. And then it’ll be another 7ish days of full fighting after that. Never mind I’ll spend that much in gold just to keep arming myself to do max damage, I suppose what I’m saying is that when it comes to 10 million damage intervals this war would have to go on a long, long time for it to make a significant difference.

I’m not against war. I’m against war that’s fought stupidly for stupid reasons. I’m for a war that’s planned with allied support and advice, that has a clear goal and clear purpose, which helps the common cause of Canada and Terra. This war was done on a lark, passed on a lark, and is being fought on a lark by people far too self-important to see the forest from the trees.

Things are changing, alliances are reshaping, the ground on which diplomats walk is shifting, and opportunities might come up that we can take advantage of. But that requires patience, and that requires thinking about the needs of our allies, and that requires recognizing that Canada is not a military powerhouse.

And if you can’t do that, then reevaluate what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.

As far as the actual war goes, I’ve been impressed with the courteous and professional attitude of the British administration and I must say things go exactly as we had wished when we came up with this contingency. I’d also like to thank the Brits out there who are currently fighting to keep Canada Canadian. It is my hope that this sort of cooperation can continue on and be the start of a new chapter in UK/Canadian relations. People have moved on from bygone eras as many of my opponents have reminded me – why not countries too?


Spectre, not SPECTRE

Of course, there is the spectre of real war approaching Canada as alliances shift, and for that reason I will be asking Congress at their earliest opportunity to support closing the war with the UK status quo ante bellum. Until that happens, let’s use the opportunity we have to work on our military cohesion, see how well and fast we can close down battles, and find out what our weaknesses are. As my VP would say, winter is coming.

I’m in the process of grabbing control of some of the orgs that are necessary to run these sorts of programs. In the circumstance I talked about above, an actual invasion, I will be doing what I can to outfit our MUs with a steady supply of hardware and raising the funds to do so. I would agree and I think most would too. The problem at the moment is finding a partner with whom to swap or rent (rent being my preference). What I can say to you is that, until things gel a bit more alliance wise, to have patience while we look for opportunities.
