[CP] Rental Agreement: Yea or Nay?
Bhane
eIreland has been approached about renting two of it's regions. This article is for a discussion and debate on accepting the deal or not. We will have a national referendum on the decision soon.
The eUSA has presented an offer to rent Cork, and Wexford for 70k per month to obtain an iron bonus. The payments for each month would be due by the 24th of the previous month. This means the dail has the entire term to decide what to do with each payment. Some will be saved, some will be spent, some will be invested in citizens. We don't have to do the same thing every month. One month we help fund a training ground upgrade initiative, the next we help people make some raw/food companies and storage, another month we may actually give out a flat rebate of a few hundred cc to everyone that was a citizen for the entire month, there are lots of possibilities.
Some pros and cons were discussed in negotiations for the terms. More aspects were debated in the cabinet. I will try to summarize the bullet points so far, and edit in more as this discussion takes shape.
) Cork and Wexford are redundant resource regions, so we do not lose any economic bonuses
) We maintain 4 regions so our dail is still a full 40 members.
Pros discussed
) This deal would introduce 70,000cc/month into our economy to be used to release tax pressure and/or improve citizens' Training Centres etc. This is a generous amount.
) The eUS is looking to make similar cooperative rentals like saltpeter from Mexico. If they can secure 5/5 weapon bonuses peacefully, their bonuses will be more secure. Helping them obtain stable bonuses will help secure those same bonuses for our MUs. Any MU with a designated HUB player can move them to the eUSA.
) Becoming an integral part of the eUS resource bonus goals will mean our national security concerns have just become the eUSA national security concerns.
) This puts us in a more politically prominent position for potential new alliances. The large eUS armed forces will be brought to bear to protect our borders.
) Peace on our borders, and a large income from rent would give us a chance to seriously up our alliance profile with actions abroad.
) If we decline, the eUS will seek iron from another source. That other deal may actually endanger us. Accepting the rental gets rid of that risk.
Cons discussed
) The hassle of treaty maintenance. With the FF/determination factors, there will inevitably be an accidental RW win, requiring us to re-establish the rental region into US hands. This will be an inevitable, occasional inconvenience. Enemies of the eUS wanting to drain their damage can make this occur more often.
) Shield loss. There is no schedule for initial occupation that will result in fewer than 4 shield hits. More shield hits will occur when FF/determination regions need to be recaptured. We are effectively kissing our shield goodbye with this agreement.
) Recently, the eUSA has not had a reputation for stable regime agendas. If things stabilize we are fine, and there are signs this is happening. But, if political chaos ensues, the administration 2-3 months from now may abandon the agreement and we are out all of the shield loss.
) Becoming an integral part of the eUS resource network will bring the benefits of more diplomatic clout. It will also bring the dangers of a raised political profile. We will no longer be "under the radar" of some nations.
The rental agreement merits serious consideration.
Thank you for your time.
Please keep the debate civil. Nothing is decided yet. We need to hear the pros, cons, and other factors. That way we can all make an informed decision.
Comments
Remember before immediately saying no that if the US doesn't get the iron from us they could get it from the UK. Do we want a UK friendly US to deal with? I would say no.
lol, they would have to up the cash for us to ever be able push through a rental agreement from the yanks with our population!
Well 70000 is a larger sum for Ireland percentage wise. It is logical for the US to come to us first.

Personally I am on the yes side. While the money is nice. (Would we really be upset over figuring out how to spend 70,000? Seriously.) the agreements would place us in a better foreign position where we can enter the world stage and stop being tiny Ireland who waits for others to act and then we react. There is much talk of Irish nationalism and pride but being a nation that helps shape events is better for our self image in my opinion.
I am also on the yes side
NO
okay... why?
If you want to convince others, then add to the discussion what the most important reasons are for declining this offer.
i don't want to convince anyone for now. it's why i just say NO. and after reading anthony colby's comment.
Oh... so you're agreeing with him that you don't want the US to get friendly with UK for Iron, and therefore we should agree to the rental?
or your saying "no" he is wrong that a friendly US/UK relationship would eventually be a danger to us?

For me personally when I think of a "united Ireland" I don't think of land but of the people. Since there is no land in eRep anyway and just pixels in a game the only eIreland I see is us who play.
i say NO to the rental agreement. and it's a NO after reading anthony's sentence, i.e : it's not an immediate NO.
i prefer read other players comments instead of explaining why i am against. but one thing sure, i think it is not the right moment to propose this. we all read lot of "intern war" articles" and others who ask to stop plitical argue and be united, to all play together for a united ireland..and this rent agreement will not help.
united ireland was about players anthony.
but there is a link with the unite direland in term of land.
Of course others may feel differently and that is their right.
There is a link yes. I will agree. I have fought for those pixels as hard as anyone ( well maybe not Yddub, he was a madman) but in my thoughts the cash could help solidify the position of our military might by strengthening our soldiers for the giving up of a piece of computer generated land. We will get it back sometime in the future. Someone will not want to keep the treaty or the US will lose the regions via RW. So I feel why not get some cash while we can. But that is how I feel. If someone doesn't then so be it. I won't call them wrong.
I agree with Anthony. Our concern should be the utility of our position in terms of defence of our congress, our international influence, and the prosperity of our citizens.
Regions themselves are imaginary... You can change their names to random letters, represent them on a string map instead of a real world one, and consider them only in terms of their strategic utility. Interestingly its been pointed out that if you do map them out in string form, eIreland is actually North American rather than European.
Maybe I just have a min/max kind of brain when it comes to gaming, but I find the roll playing attachment to regions to be completely without attraction for me, and the argument deployed in defence of that position are so one dimensional that it does get boring knowing exactly what those people are going to say on certain issues.
That said, to each their own... although on issues such as this it seems we can't both have it our own way. Keeping that in mind, I do try hard to remember that we're all on the same team here.
There's absolutely no need to play with RL things in this case, this is just a good deal for Ireland and I'd accept it any time.
I agree with Banshee.
Please say why, so others can read it.
It was like pulling teeth to get CoB to expound on "no". The more people can ready about why people are deciding yes or no, the more easily they can value what's important to them when it comes time to vote.
NM... I read your explanation farther down in the comments. Thank you for adding that. I should've checked all the comments before replying so quickly to this one.
OK so:
1) It's eMorally wrong. eIreland for the eIrish!
2) No balls detected. FFS, there is now a chance to go mental and have a bit of fun attacking neighbours and capturing land immediately and continually for ONCE in eIreland's history.
3) It's so passive. They arrive at the door waving a chq and everyone has a pubchat about it like it's reasonable??
I'd tell 'em to gtfo and be planning a combo AS on a decent region, whilst kicking the eBrits whilst they are down.
4) F*ck the shield. It's really not worth the intellectual energy you all expend upon it.
I write it to answer you, not in the expectation of influencing others. People here have hard-considered opinions, and I respect that.
I'm more hawk than dove.
Good luck to the eIrish. At least none of you can say ye weren't consulted.
er... we aint down! rest of your points are spot on though...
Given the relative ease of RWing regions now, surely it would be very easy for the US' enemies to wreck this treaty, so we could face a series of NEs and attacks from them followed by RWs ad infinitum.
this is a good first argument i thought too.
I added that to the con list in the "treaty maintenance" description.
If we return the region or our enemies do, I'm pretty sure US and Ireland would just re-conquer it. That's not much of a problem if you ask me.
The problem comes if this happens all too often and ends up being a constant distraction. Constantly needing to maintain the treaty would hinder us from accomplishing other goals.
What other goals we have at this point? If we plan something else we can always cancel the treaty.
At this moment we can't do anything else.
1. We can't attack UK
2. We can't reach Europe
We're neither strong enough nor rich enough to go for AS. And there's no point going for it neither.
All we can do is helping our allies and constant distractions won't happen, it will only happen when like 100 days pass and we get Determination bonus.
I can live with one day of fighting to secure this treaty.
I'm referring to goals as simple as fighting for allies.
If we are re-capturing the regions for the eUS every other week, that means much of our monthly damage is gone from the battlefields of our friends. Not to mention the drain from eUS damage.
If the recapture only happens every few months, it's no big deal.
We're not able to take them those regions each week. We just don't have the strenght to do it. Their 2-clickers could take care of that.
Plus, I doubt any of our enemies would actually fund this RW's.
We'll probably take them back only when Determination bonus gets higher and that's not so often.
You're right.. we are not able to take them back very often. But any enemy of the eUS might use RWs started by FF speculators to sabotage the eUS resource bonuses.
We're not going to to 2-click to an accidental victory. But FF hunters added to an eUS enemy push for a damage drain could certainly win a RW.
I think the odds of it happening too often are slim, since the eUS seems to be offering olive branches with many nations recently. But it's not impossible, either.
Yes, great oportunity for Irlenad. Great job Bhane.
To put the money in percpective that is roughly 90 Q7 weapons for every Irish citizen each month for two regions.
there's already problems with supplies, and who's going to administer it, and who's ready for the bloodbath in the Dail over everyone's pet projects or immediate need to get some of the funds for themselves?
If they own the region, do they not get income from Irelands treasury?? under the new rules, if so whats cost to us?
90k per month.
70k for the actual rents
20k allotment for tax rebate compensation for shield loss.
why not show to all the entire treaty?
Sweet estimates our lost revenue from the 2 regions will be 17-20k, and probably less as time goes on. We have been been working on VAT reductions before this offer, and will continue with that plan, regardless of this rental agreement or not.
That is a big chunk of change for us.
Because all of the language isn't finalized, CoB. After the feedback from our dail/congresses we may make some tweaks. Right no the idea of renting the regions at all is the important discussion.
They gave us a offer that we cant refuse. 🙂
"yes we can"
Maybe shouldn't is better word. As we all know only money matter now and 70k is more then we earn form tax on monthly base and we still keep production bonus intact . I can understand you pride bro but this is game and that regions are worthless pixels to us (economically speaking).
so the goal of this game is to be rich or to gain control of most region possible?
The point is to have fun in a socioeconomic, geopolitical simulator.
I've never considered the goal of this game to be "most regions" or "most money"
i'd like to say that goal is to have as much bonuses as possibel and within that you get more money... so we wont lose any bonus and its yes from me...
Regions don't matter , bonuses do . 😉
So IMO goal of the game is to catch all Pokemons (10/10).😃
The first 4 regions matter.
The congress is 10 per region for the first 4 regions a country has. More seats open after 40 regions, but we are never going to be in that position.
But since this deal does not affect our bonuses, or drop us below 4 regions, neither is a factor. I'll edit that into the article.
and if uk have the good idea to NE us after we lost our shield and have 4 remaining regions?
