[CP] Jacobi IX Final Address

Day 1,751, 21:42 Published in Canada Canada by Jacobi

It is my 276th day in Office, I am the longest serving President in the history of the game, beating smrtan by about a week. These were not my best 31 days I’ll be the first to admit, but there were some things accomplished that I would like history to remember.

With the help of Mochan Drust, my administration worked hard to strengthen Canada’s reputation abroad. I value the role that the President plays in foreign affairs highly, and I am pleased that we have acted in a responsible, mature, and supportive way to our allies, showed ourselves willing and able partners to future friends, and burnished our reputation even amongst our enemies.

Once again, during my term, Canada was threatened with invasion. With only a Visa with a paltry limit I relied on diplomacy and communication with Poland to ensure our actions did not wipe ourselves, and then worked towards a quick restoration on the map with absolutely no question that Canada would consider submitting itself to unwelcome foreign occupation. I have no doubt that Canada is still capable of remaining a viable independent country.

I am pleased that we have begun the process of rebuilding our relationship with the United States, starting with understandings with the Glove administration, and then our support of US objectives in Indonesia when we had the opportunity to do so. With proper diplomacy and a recognition of reality, the next President can build upon what we have done this term, and strengthen ties with our Bros to the south. When looking at the two likeliest candidates to succeed me, I have a feeling this might be the easiest objective to achieve.

Domestically, however, this administration has had issues with only two bright silver linings to confirm.

The Ambassador Corps is an excellent example of my hubris. It could be done with the right combination of people in the right configuration but its not sustainable month over month. A smaller core group working informally for the Minister of Foreign Affairs would do just as well. Congress should repeal the Ambassador’s Act.

I am unhappy that I was unable to stop the taxation change pushed through during the middle of my term. The chaos it caused in military funding was intensely unneeded as we prepared to push back in our RWs. I cannot express enough how grateful I am to the new Congress for mostly reversing that decision. I believe now we must increase import taxes to the same level as VAT taxes to give Canadian producers a helping hand in this time of depressed prices. It is only fair.

I was however happy to have done the two surveys I did during the term and the level of information I received gave me a much greater understanding of the pulse of the nation. I encourage every future President to use google forms to poll the populace on their thoughts on the big issues of the day. I also liked the effort put in by Randall Flagg to offer counterpoints a couple of times during the month. I think any future administration should do its best to vary how it gets news out to the country. 14 Articles by the President isn’t enough.

Miserably, I failed at being able to effectively lead Congress. This is, in part, because I walked back into the job after having been back 10 days. This is also, in part, because I held far too high an opinion of myself, one that didn’t have any bearing in reality or in my memories of how Congress worked. While I believe I was able to correct myself half way through the term, I am annoyed with myself for having to relearn a lesson I should have already known.

Finally, I want to give an incredible shout out to Plugson, who labored in the dark corners without much notice, in his activities to further new player retention. The results have shown: according to egov4you we started this term with 1336 citizens after having lost after having lost almost 100 citizens over the previous month. We have arrested that decline and I think Plugson and his helpers played a critical role in that process with 1370 citizens today. Excellent job, Plugson. Thank you.

Tonight the former Vice President and the current Vice President are in an extremely close race to succeed me. I have absolutely no idea who will win, but I will say to both that I will be here as a resource for whatever you need to get up to speed. A hallmark of a mature democracy is the ability to peacefully transfer power. Tomorrow I hope the process to be seemless.

School for me started today, it will be my penultimate term. 4 8:30 classes including Accounting Information Systems, Statistics and Finance prompted me to decline to make it 10. I will, hopefully, go back to Congress in 20 days, and spend the rest of the fall keeping on top and not letting myself slip. So I’ll continue to be around, to offer help and advice, and see what I can do.

And then, when the time is right, I will run again.

Thank you for the opportunity, your support, and the experience. 276 days and I still enjoy it. Thank you.
