(CP Entry) Paying People to Subscribe, Winning or Cheating Yourself

Day 495, 10:11 Published in Canada Canada by Derek Harland

I don’t believe in paying people to subscribe to newspapers. For a newspaper to gain success, I believe it should be earned by hard work and writing articles that people are interested in. Writing an interesting newspaper is no easy task. The lure of an article is one that gets people to subscribe to your paper so they will be able to tune into any other articles you write in the future. When you pay people to get them to subscribe to your paper, you are cheating everyone else who has worked hard putting out quality articles. In the future, if someone offers this funding for your subscription, everyone should say they subscribed, get their money, and cheat the newspaper.

Another thing is the fact that if you have the wealth to be able to offer this kind of bonus, you probably are already a successful newspaper and will likely have more subscriptions than a lot of other papers. The ultimate goal that every newspaper editor is aiming for is media mogul and it is likely the people close to 1000 subscribers who offer money for your subscription. This is going to hurt the little guy, the newspaper that’s just started with a new member. They’re going to obviously be overlooked for this newspaper with a flashy welcome sign offering you money.

At the end of the day, it would be a lot more satisfying to know all of your subscribers are from the heart and care about your paper, rather than people that were bought.
