On the 5th of every month the nations of the New World begin the process of electing a new leader for their country. This is by far the most important election of the month, and the outcome of this day will determine our fate for the month to come.

Let your vote be an exercise of individual choice, a reflection of your loyalty to eIreland, and a result of the careful application of independent thought.

In an attempt to better inform the voting population, I'd like to provide some essential information about this month’s elections.

Campaign Articles
It's a good idea to read the campaign articles of each candidate before voting. Campaign articles most often detail the intentions and goals of a candidate, as well as their planned cabinet.

Note: The Country President's Cabinet refers to a team of people who will be aiding the Country President in his/her duties. Important examples are the Minister(s) of Defence, Minister(s) of Foreign Affairs, and Minister(s) of Finance. For examples of past cabinets, look here. For a better idea of how Irish government is set up, look here.

Background Information

The Psych0: The Psych0, formerly known as MUFC92, joined eRepublik on May 12, 2011 as an eCroatian and RL Croatian. On September 23, 2011 he became a citizen of eIreland. [1]. On October 19, 2011 he took over as commander of the Irish Army, where he would begin to shape and re-shape our national military into much of what it is today. He has also been highly involved in the Irish Citizen's Army more recently, before returning to the Irish Army. The Irish Progressive Party, the predecessor to today's Saoirse, was also founded by The Psych0 and ascended to popularity much to his credit. Today Saoirse is the most popular party in eIreland. Psych0 has been the Minister of Defence during several terms, and was the Vice President of Thanatos the Magnificent's July 2012 government. In January of 2012, as MUFC92, he was the Country President of eIreland. He also ran for Country President last month but lost to Winston Hope Smith in a close race.

mirek12345
Mirek joined eRepublik on November 11, 2009 as a citizen of eCroatia. He first arrived in eIreland around March 18, 2010. [1] He has ministerial experience including positions as MoNC (October 2010), Vice President (December 2011, May 2011), Minister of Foreign Affairs (March 2011, November 2011) (according to existing wiki records). He is a member of Independent Voices dating back to the original pre-December ’10 party and fights in eIreland’s Wild Geese MU. He has been elected to congress 17 times in his political career. Mirek also spent nine months as a citizen of ePhilippines where he ran for President before returning home April 2012.

Marcus Suridius
Marcus joined the game on March 25, 2010 and is a real life Irish citizen. He has a long history with eIreland’s Ministry of Defense going back to 2010, and also has experience as a Minister of Foreign Affairs. He has been President of eIreland in January 2011 (following the resignation of CelticTiger211), April 2011, and May 2011. Marcus was one of the founders of Irish Army following the December 2010 eBritish invasion of eIreland. He has been elected to our congress 8 times. He was also the founder of the Irish Independent Party, which existed for a long time after the wipe of 2010 until recently. He is currently the commander of the Continuity Irish Army, after his disagreements with the current IA administration. He has also been the subject of recent controversy due to allegations of treasury theft - Marcus vehemently denies these accusations of theft as false.

KhanAlves
KhanAlves joined the game on December 1, 2010 as a citizen of Turkey. He came to eIreland on day 1,687 of the new world. He is a soldier of the ICA and the Party President of the Great Ireland Movement.

I offered each candidate the opportunity to respond to some questions about their candidacy that I thought would shed some light on these elections. The Psych0, mirek12345, and Marcus Suridius were kind enough to answer them. I was unable to get a response from the other candidates in time for this article. Special thanks to Elite C who was kind enough to answer my questions but later decided not to join the race.

Why are you choosing to run this month and what do you hope to accomplish in these elections?
The Psych0-My goals are pretty much same like the last month, I don't feel we moved a lot from start of November till now. Only good thing was that our orgs are finally secured. We had stable month and that was great, but I think it's finally time now to bring some action here.
mirek12345-I'm running this month primarily because I'll have more free time to devote to erep than in the past months. The last government managed to unite eIreland a little,so I'm intending to continue their work towards uniting the country.
This will be an important month for eIreland with the alliance referendum and I want to make sure eIreland will do well and make the right choices

Marcus Suridius-I have always been known as a hard worker for Ireland and feel with us on the brink of possibly a huge choice on whether to leave or stay in EDEN, as our most vocal supporter of EDEN I believe we need a strong person who is able to make tough choices. I have shown in my last two CP terms that I make them choices when its needed.

How would you summarize your plan for governing the nation in December?
The Psych0-More action, that actions can be war, projects or something else, I'm full of ideas, but I'd rather keep them for myself at this moment.
mirek12345-First off, assemble a team of experienced and ambitious people for the government roles who could bring success to the job. There will be junior/Deputy minister roles as well, for new players who wish to learn about certain government roles. I'll also try to bring some fun to eIreland as this was what we missed for the past couple of terms.i]

What considerations have you made for cabinet positions? How will you be using your cabinet if you are elected?
The Psych0-I'm choosing only best people I can find in Ireland, I won't look what party they are members or what is their RL nationality, I'll choose people who has knowledge and motivation to do their job
mirek12345-I already contacted some good and trustworthy people for the roles, most of whom have a good experience in the game. This people are/will be chosen for their capability and willingness to do the job,not for their party affiliation. And as it stands most parties will be represented in this government.
Marcus Suridius-I have considered a number of people who I think would be excellent for the roles but I always look to have an experienced player alongside a less experienced one so that they can learn the role while not being under too much pressure.

How do you understand the relationship between the government and eIreland’s MUs? How would you coordinate with the many MUs?
The Psych0-I think last month coordination between MU's were great, Malbekh done good job and we just have to keep it up. I'll give my best to make Irish Army stronger and to attract as many Irishmens as possible, cetralised Military Unit is best at this moment considering current game mechanics.
mirek12345-I think the communication between the government and the MUs was fairly solid last term, but I think it could still be better. It requires a bit better coordination between the CP/MoD and the Commanders about setting the County DO and the MU DOs for the same battle,to maximize our effectivness in influencing important battles
Marcus Suridius-I know the relationship quite well, I have never done anything in the game bar things that were military related. Having commanded the two Irish National military's the IDF and IA I know what needs to be done to make sure we have excellent communication, some MU's won’t work with us which we have to both expect and understand. Others are quite open to working with a supportive government and those are the ones ill be looking to work with and help in any way I can.

December will open with a referendum on our alliance situation. Should we join CoT or stick with EDEN?
The Psych0-I'll let people of Ireland to decide that. Whatever decision is we must respect it and finish that story finally. I think both options brings us some good and some bad news. Nothing is black nor white. Whatever we decide, it's gonna be our call how we're going to eLive.
mirek12345-I'm still of the opinion that we should stay in Eden, despite the current trouble the alliance is going through. And as I already said, joining CoT will indeed give us some short-term gains, but I doubt we will benefit in the long run.
CoT will eventually fall apart, just like almost every alliance in this game did
And as James Keiller said,a reputation for turning your back on allies for short term gain tends to stick. And that surely wouldn't be beneficial for us

Marcus Suridius-Everyone, or at least all the senior players know im a very vocal supporter of EDEN, I was key in helping us join so I would always say we should stay and look to improve our alliance and not jump ship when there are problems. Its easy to leave when times are bad but doing that will always leave our former allies with a bad memory of us and I don't want that for Ireland.

If the results dictate a move to CoT, what will be your plan for a smooth transition, and how are you prepared for leading the nation through such an important event?
The Psych0-It's hard thing to do, but I have a lot of friends in CoT and I'm sure there will be no problems from that side. On the other hands I hope EDEN will understand our position, most of them will, because everyone know EDEN is in hard times right now. But yeah, that's gonna be hard task for everyone.
mirek12345-Ofcourse Eden HQ will be the first to know about this transition and we'll try to leave on good terms. There's no need for holding any grudges over this so we'll leave on good terms
Marcus Suridius-If the public decide to leave EDEN then I will be looking to make it an amicable exit, they have known what kind of allies we have been and I will look to make it as smooth an exit as possible. What people forget is that if we do leave EDEN is that we will have to sign new MPP's which our finances won't allow so we will need to look at ways to get around that.

Last month’s government responded to the thefts from our treasury by instituting some conservative treasury building measures to get us back on par – what do you see as being our financial situation heading into December, and how will you handle our finances?
The Psych0-I'm gonna spend and save, if we spend money on those things which will provide us more money in future that spending is good. Looking long termly only investing is profitable in this game. On the other hand I'll talk to my MoF about how can we increase our gainings, because that is possible.
mirek12345-I have to admit that finances and economy are my weak spot in erep. That's why our current MoF Appleman will continue the good work that he's done during the past month. We're already in a far better situation regarding our finances then last month,so things can only get better from now on
Marcus Suridius-Well currently discounting money on the monetary markets we have 140kiep & 299g in our orgs and treasury so we aren't as bad as some nations but it could always be better. I would not be looking to make any drastic tax changes as I don’t believe they are needed at the moment so I will consult with a number of financial advisors and the MoF and look to implement any ideas they may think would aid our financial system.

This is a packed election going into December with five candidates in the running. How do you predict this election will unfold, and how confident are you in your campaign?

The Psych0-I think I'm gonna win, I am surely best of all candidates, I'm active, I'm not a thief and I have most knowledge, I'd bet on myself this month 😛
mirek12345-This should be an interesting election, but I think there are just 2 candidates who do have a chance of becoming CP (possibly 3,but I doubt it) . I think MUFC is the frontrunner for these elections and he should have the best chance to win,but nothing is impossible,so we'll see what happens on the 5th.
Marcus Suridius-No offence is meant towards KhanAlves or IrishGawain but they have either not got the experience or the public don’t know them enough for me to believe they will be able to mount a challenge for the office this month, with the support of ILP and IV still to be decided I think whomever gathers their support would be hard to match. I can’t say who I think might win as its hard to call but its quite open.

What will this last term be remembered for?
The Psych0-Stabilisation and unity Government
mirek12345-Unity and stability
Marcus Suridius-I think it will only really be remembered as a lackluster campaign, with the lack of any wars or things like that it wouldn’t be remember long term. It was more of a term for consolidation to build up after the recent issues the nation had and you can’t complain about that because it was the only thing we could do.

What will your term be remembered for?
The Psych0-It's hard to talk about that now, a lot of things depend on coming referendum, after that I'll be able to answer you on this question.
mirek12345-Hopefully unity, stability, fun and success
Marcus Suridius-My terms have always been a success and I believe if I won next month, even with the referendum lying over us it would be the same. During my last two terms we were at war with the UK and we won both times, had successful ATO’s and had record (at the time) amounts of income coming into the nation. I think we left office the second term with an extra 400k iep in the treasury than when we came into office and that was without any programs we see now a days. I will be looking to get us a war and I mean an actual one, training wars are boring and I have idea’s lined up if we have the chance to give our new players the feeling of Ireland at war, loads have never seen that and it will aid in our player retention.

There you have it eIreland. The choice between these eIrish candidates is yours. Choose well.
