Final Destiny for East of Englan😛 Introduction

Hello citizens of the East of England,

My name is Final Destiny and I've been selected by The Unity Party to run in the upcoming elections to the House of Commons (Congress). Though I'm usually found running in another region though it seems to have been misplaced and thus the party has sent me to campaign here instead. I've already picked out a lovely second home it has a moat and everything that'll need cleaning. Anyway without further ado here is my Presentation of why I should get another Congress Medal to add to my collection instead of Candidate A,B or dare I say C!

What does Congress do exactly?

Gee FD why are you going to tell us what Congress can do? Do you really need to be THAT patronising? Why yes I do because the fact is even some of the people running for Congress don't know exactly how it works. So it is a good idea to have a section just to remind people what powers and restrictions are placed on Congressmen both in-game and of course on the UK Forums in the House of Commons. That way everybody will know what they should expect of who they choose to represent them.

Congress: In-Game

In-game a Congressman can propose the following:

New Citizen Fee: Change the amount of GBP a New Citizen receives out of the treasury when they start the game. It can never be lower than 5 GBP.

Country Donation: Move Gold or any Currency out of the Treasury into any Organisation. During the 24 Hour voting period the money proposed for transfer is frozen and is unusable. This is generally used to send our money to our very own Bank of England so that the Chancellor of the Exchequer can work his magic. It can also be used to stop evil foreign invaders getting our money.

Issue Money: For a price of 0.005 gold per Unit of Currency you can print new GBP should it be needed to help the UK's economy.

Change taxes: Exactly as it says on the tin. A Congressman can propose tax changes to one industry per proposal. They can not go lower than 1% or higher than 99% (Income Tax can go no higher than 50😵.

Minimum Wage: Proposing a change in the minimum wage a company can offer. It can be no lower than 1 GBP.

National Chat Room: Changing the National Chat Room to another one with a different owner. Here in the eUK we prefer to use IRC. Visit us on Rizon server at #eUK. Do it! Do it now!

Presidential Impeachment: Propose the removal of the current President (Prime Minister) to be replaced with the 2nd place candidate from the last election. This proposal needs 66% of Congress Votes to be passed.

All these proposals are subject to a 24 Hour vote in Congress. So co-operation with other congressmen is needed to get laws you want passed. Otherwise you'll be voted down 1 Vote to 39 Votes.

Congressmen can also vote on things the Country President can only propose. These include buying Hospitals/Defence Systems, New Citizens Messages (That's the message you first got when you joined from the Admin.), Mutual Protection Pacts, Trade Embargoes and Peace Treaties offered by either the Country President if the United Kingdom or the Country President of the country we happen to be at war with. Oh and of course every-bodies favorite Declarations of War on bordering nations.

Another In-Game power Congressmen have is the ability to accept Citizenship applications. The number of citizenship passes a congressmen has varies depending on the number of citizens in the United Kingdom. The exact number of passes you get is 10% of the population divided by 40 in the case of the United Kingdom.

Lastly of course is if the Congressman decides they don't want all these cool powers anymore. The resign button which resigns you from life in the House of Commons. Why would anyone do this? Well let's look at the restrictions placed on Congress to find out. Firstly as a Congressman you can not leave the country. Not very helpful if you want to say help out in a Resistance War in Northern Ireland or Paris. Secondly as a Congressman you only get to use 2 Proposals per term. So once you are out of Citizenship passes and Proposals you are just stuck voting on the occasional silly Tax Increase or MPP life can get dull when all you have is a rubber stamp.

Congress: Forum Activity

Alongside all those wonderful in-game thingy-ma-bobs the United Kingdom has the UK Forumd where you will find a section called the House of Commons. This is the place all the Congressmen gather and debate proposals. Some of which aren't hard coded into the actual Erepublik experience. So how does all this work exactly? is it complicated? Not if you read up on things no it's not.

Firstly in the section marked "Public Discussion" you'll find a place called the Statute Book. This is where all our famous (Or infamous) legislation is kept for all citizens to look at. So say a Congressman (Or any member of the public in this case) spots something he or she doesn't like what would they do about it? Well they could propose an Amendment or propose to Abolish it. Both which are done like so:

-First Post a Topic about it in "Public Discussion" titled appropriately for example: "Abolishment of the Silly Hats Act" or "Amendment of the Silly Hats Act".
- For an Amendment you must colour highlight additions to the act and use the cross-out tag to signal things you want cutting.
- For Abolishment you must say why you want the Act Abolished.
- To move to the House of Commons the proposal needs to be sponsored by a Congressman or Lord. (Hey that means I should be able to if you elect me Yay!)

So that's the basics of that covered. What else can a Congressman do? Oh yes you need to get your amazing Tax plan passed! Though if you just propose it without discussing it in the Commons and following procedure they might get cranky and vote it down! (Shock and Horror!) So what's the drill on these things? Let me show you young grasshopper:

-First start a Topic in the House of Commons with the title "Tax Change for [Insert Industry here]"
- If 5 Congressmen agree and say "Sponsored" then you can proceed straight away to a In-Game Vote. Lucky you!

So what about other In-Game Proposals? Well they are pretty much the same but need 10 Sponsors instead of 5 to go to a vote. Apart from Impeachment you can go nuts with that if you want.

So say you want to propose some new shiny Legislation for the Statute Book. You have been working on a new "Silly Hats Act" (Wait didn't we just abolish or ammend that? Never mind!) How would you go about proposing it well you:

- Start a topic in "Public Discussion" titled as you want your Legislation to be titled.
- Explain in said topic why it is needed and of course put the Act itself in the Topic for all to read.
- After 48 Hours of discussion it moves to the Commons and after 48 Hours there it moves to a Vote.

Now the last thing I'll cover (Because let's face it this Congress Presentation is getting a little wordy...) say you took a dislike to a certain Lord. Maybe they said the "Silly Hats Act" was stupid and he hurt your feelings. How would one go about getting rid of said Lord who clearly is inept and frankly mean. Well the process is simple:

- Post a Topic in the Commons Titled "Removal of [Insert the heartless fiends name here] as a Lord"
- Get 5 Sponsors and it gets sent to a vote.

Now that Lord "Serious Hats" is out the way nothing can stop you! Well so long as you have over 50% of Congress on your side.

There are of course issues that are sensitive and should be discussed in the Commons Private Chamber till they can be declassified to the public at a later date. So all Congressmen should know when an issue is sensitive or not. When in doubt post it in the private chamber first it can always be moved tis no biggie.

Thus concludes Final Destiny's lesson on Congressman-ship. There is more of course but this is the bread and butter.

Why should I vote Final Destiny?

Finally we get to this. Well for starters I'm rather experienced in these Congress matters. I've served before as MP for Northern Ireland and I've even had a few terms as a Congress Member in the Republic of Ireland. So I've been round the block and know what to do and what not to do. Granted most of those are a day and age ago but all the experience I've built up is still somewhat relevant to today. Oh I'm also an Admin on the United Kingdom forums and just re-oreganised them for your viewing pleasure. I suggest you pay a visit and get to know our pretty awesome community if you haven't already.

Usually when elected into Congress I have a good attendance record and will try my best to turn up for the job again. Though this time it'll be for the East of England rather than Northern Ireland. I'll try my very best to be there for the East of England and try catch the people that Central Government misses by keeping in touch by Private Messages and the Media.

I've noticed the East of England has a Council. I recently tidied the Regional Forums up but the one thing I kept was councils because I believe them to provide a good service to the United Kingdom. Should I be elected I'll make myself available to the Council. I myself came up for the idea of Local Councils in Erepublik almost 2 Years ago now. Back when I ran for Mayor of London (A Campaign that was cut due to my promotion to Country President candidate). I hope all Congressmen at least give a nod to these councils.

So that's all I have to say. Other than Vote Final Destiny and make sure you vote for people who at least have a vague idea what they are doing if you don't.
