[Ashwamedh] So We Meet Again
Ind1anMartyr
Okayyyy, its the weekend and I seem to be more active than the President! (Rachit where are you?!!!)
Thought I would begin with the meetup and set a final date for feedback. I believe Neel had said he would be back to Mumbai around end of August, so I'm setting the date of Friday night 30th August as the meetup date. Meetup to happen at SMAASH... I do not think I will be able to reach before 9 : 45 pm (for reasons my Mumbai mates know) but since its open till 1:30 am... we have enough time to enjoy. I would strongly advise getting tanked up (boozed!) before we get there!! 😃
Any objections, please respond below.
PS : No Yuuva multis allowed for the meetup!! 😛
Note that the first item on our meet will be the ubiquitous babyboom that we haven't really tried too hard at but maybe I have yet another cool idea which would involve minimal work and good rewards 😃
Next up onto the remainder of my needless weekend article.
1. India - OUR ORIGINS (do you know where we came from?)
Maniu my friend philosopher, I have lots to discuss. The pre-conceived notions of India/Aryans being Caucasian made me finally (after so many years) think of researching it. It seems this is a falsehood (yet debated) and that the Vedic principles originated in India a long long time ago. Seems the race occupying India lived happily (and intermingled) with the Dravidian race and developed a form of democratic governance and philosophy based text that was nowhere to be found at that point of time.
There are compelling arguments in the thread below and I wish to help you gain insight into what we ourselves have very little knowledge (or interest about)
http://www.veda.harekrsna.cz/encyclopedia/aryans.htm
and here is a study by a German who corroborates it (Im sure he wasnt a Nazi) 😃

I would also like to point you in the direction of a very basic and simple explanation (that us Indians as a majority also do not know) - the explanation for / and difference between Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads.

2. KNOWLEDGE :
I have come across a few splendid teaching aids that would do wonders for all students (AND oldies like me) These are free courses online where you only pay to get certified but the knowledge is free. Go and explore and enjoy some tremendously, wonderful work (and videos) painstakingly done in the interests of knowledge. A pity this doe snot come out of India which now, seems to be indulging in the rat race of oneupmanship; while the West tries to contribute in return, what they gained.

2. http://www.udacity.com (this is the one I loved the most, being techie and a math lover)
3. http://https://www.coursera.org/ (this has a brilliant course for Ancient Roman architecture scheduled for Jan 2014)
Right guys that's all for my "sober" ramblings... spend a moment thinking about the poor submarine sailors who lost their lives in INS Sindhurakshak and also spare a moment for those caught and dying everyday by the cheap politics and shenanigans of a nation so unlike what it used to be.
Mother india...67 years and I feel for all of us, I feel for you...
We are being pressurised by China and Pakistan is being blackmailed by China into upping the ante. I hope this is a false alarm but maybe the time for the next dreadful armed conflict isnt as far away as some may think. Pray we stray human and avert idiocy... but then being human and sensible is in itself a hyperbole! 😃
Over and out!

Thanks for the links brother!
Europeans (at least some of them) did not had a history (or, in any case, not a very nice one) so, they try to made up one. Amongst all, germans seems to have been the most disperate to make such an origin to themselves (glorious, etc).
To the idea, to me it seems very --- posible. It is like some tribes (from Meluha 😃) descent in the plain.
Reading all the books (will take forever) without the interpretation that education gave us, could be quite a surprise, for sure.
Sure, one could attain knowledge from another way (that study of the books) and, I belive, that sort of ... Prajna, would be more beneficial.
What I also want to underline, is that ancient indian culture was centered to the spiritual development of humans, to the moksa, and this was unveiled and accesible to all. No hiding in that, and this make it fabulous.
The democracy of attaining the true nature of the man/woman.
Nowhere else you could find that (sadly seems that India himself have forgot this way nowadays).
About Vedas, Puranas and Upanishad ... I will be back later 😃
That's a bad excuse for not knowing European history, bro :/
I'm eager to learn it, so tell me what where germans 2.000 bc ? or britt's, or allans, or ... saxons ?
You name a well known today nation/culture from europe and tell us what have they done before ... not 2k bc, but at least around 100 bc.
Thanks !
Italy? Greece? Spain? To an extent Turkey, but I prefer to say "Anatolia" lol
Who really knows what everyone else was up to before the Romans conquered Europe in its entirety? Still, I don't believe your original point was about how far back "written history" extends.
True.My point was that some emergin european nations tend to mystify history (and did that in very academic media) to justify them right to rule the world, them divine descendece, etc.
Is there any need to justify it? I believe our present is much more important that what some caveman done a few hundred years ago : P
True, caveman could not be important (just he's club 😃). However, here we do not talk about caveman's, but about civilizations.
So, how could you pretend to dominate the world if you where a caveman with a club when those you conquer where educated and civilized persons ? You think you could make someone belive you are the better guy and make them follow your leading ? I doubt.
This is all about, in the end, in this process of mistify the history (propaganda before conquering and erasing of prove's after conquering), to make all belive you where a better man/nation, etc, and that it is your natural right to lead others (and spoil them resources, off course, because they are dumb and dont know what to do with what they have 🙂
Well a civilisation could not exist/survive based solely on the intellect of its people. It is not those of great intelligence who are responsible for the defence of a certain culture, nation or whatever else we may use to describe band of people.
Take for example Greece, a nation with an abundance of great philosophers and inventors, yet if it were not for the brutish men who defended those lands, then perhaps we wouldn't ever have heard of these people.

Very interesting posts. The Nazi's used the term "Aryan" but it had nothing to do with Germanic and such. "Aryan" is etymologically related to "Iran." It is believed that the horse-riding warriors who came into Iran later came across the Khyber Pass into India. There are strong connections between the gods of the Vedas and those of the ancient Iranian religion and of its Zoroastrian offshoot. I think that much is beyond doubt. However, that does not imply that it ALL came from outside India. There are strong evidences of an extremely old tradition of meditation and mysticism in India itself. One of the oldest archeological artifacts from India is a stone carving of a figure that looks for all the world like a yogi in mediation.
