(Archived) Severin for President

Day 615, 09:13 Published in Ireland Australia by Severin Organization
[Archived. Authored by Severin]

First of all much thanks to those who voted IRP on election day. I think the party did really well in securing 6 seats. Furthermore, congratulations to all who got elected across the party spectrum and my sincere condolences to those who didn't get in (if there was legislation you really wanted to put forward, feel free to contact me). The Irish Radical Party has certainly come a long way since our foundation earlier this month and we will continue to grow as a party. Last week I said I intended to run for President and here I am making the official announcement. I will keep this relatively brief (relative to my previous articles anyway). This is simply an announcement (more articles and a manifesto will come in due time). Thank you in advance for your attention.

Why am I running?
In running I have no self vested interests. I want to serve the eIrish people and improve eIreland. Since joining eRepublik my loyalty has always been first and foremost to this country. I humbly offer my service as an experienced citizen, the people may choose to accept it or reject it. The role of the President requires a lot of time and consistent dedication, these are things I can bring to the table in August. Furthermore, I have quite a number of ideas which I think eIreland could benefit from (innovation truly is the way forward). In short, I want make this a better place for all our citizens and have the resources to do so. I love being an eIrish citizen and I will ensure of the progress of many is not lost in these dark times.

What experience do I have?
I am by no means an elder of eIreland (I still like to think of myself as a youngster here) however I have been here since the start of 2009 and have since learned a lot about the game and eIreland. I have economic, military and plenty of political experience. Currently, I am serving my fifth consecutive mandate in the Dáil. In the past I have served eIreland as Minister of Information, Minister of Defense and I have been Vice President three times (a role which has giving me tremendous insight into the job of the President). Having served as Party President of the Irish Union Party three times and recently founded a new party, the Irish Radical Party, I feel I have plenty of leadership qualities. Prior to my political career here I used to run a successful Q2 gift company and I have fought in resistant battles abroad, thus I have also seen and experimented with the economic and military aspects of the game. While I may come across as relatively old to some here I came from a very popular generation and the experience of being new here is still fresh in my mind (bridging the gap between the young and the ancient is something I always loved doing).

What can I bring to the table?
I am not going to promise anything that isn't practical or even remotely attainable. Before I outline what I want to improve let me just say the most fundamental things any President can bring to the table are: accountability, leadership and activity. I promise all three. The President needs to ensure ongoing talks with countries abroad, cooperation with the cabinet, Congress, parties and most importantly constant updates/addresses to the public. In these dark times we need strong leadership and we need national unity. We need a President and an administration that is frequently online and working on our behalf. I don't think that is too much to ask of a President and that is the very least you'll get from me. eIreland has had more than its fair share of endless promises and mundane disputes, it is high time we saw some more action for a change.

What do I intend to improve/change?
Once again I will keep this brief (more detail will come in due time). I think they are many different aspects of eIreland which can be improved some of which are more urgent than others. The best thing a President can do is get the right people on board. eIreland has plenty of talented, dedicated politicians across the party spectrum. We should be utilizing the resources we have and intellect should be constantly pooled. As President I promise to bring the administration closer to the people and I will tolerate no sitting ducks. Incompetent ministers should be swiftly fired and responsibility should always be designated to those who warrant it.

Our economy needs to be revived (trade embargoes ended, private businesses subsidized, all taxes other than import kept low, public sector reform and dare I say it, a thorough budget published to our citizens). All in the interest of efficiency and economic growth. Transparency is quite important here (afterall citizens deserve to know where their taxes are going).

Our foreign relations should be impeccable (ongoing talks/negotiations with other countries, neutrality absolutely assured, intelligence consistently gathered, our values constantly promoted and friendships forged across the eWorld). In order to ensure this, we need a hard working Foreign Ministry, contacts abroad and once again an active President. Neutrality is by no means an excuse for inactivity where foreign affairs are concerned.

Our security needs to be guaranteed (certain defensive structures need to be improved, our forces kept organized and in constant training-which entails foreign missions). eIreland is fortunately blessed with great military leadership and spies. We have to endure without war games for the time been however if an opportunity arises to recommence them, we will take it. That said I will not support us joining the PEACE war games. This would be a serious infringement on our neutrality and I for one think it would be an underhanded move for us to consider playing games with nations who are oppressing our friends across the Atlantic. Such a move will see eIreland become nothing more than a puppet and that is something I will never support nor will let happen on my watch.

Our bureaucracy should be kept to a minimum (this means a smaller and more efficient cabinet and the absence of useless government departments/orgs). This once again is simply in the interest of efficiency (eliminating any dead weight and ensuring progress across the board is ongoing). Throwing out titles left right and centre is not the way to get work done. As I mentioned above roles should only be given to those who can fulfill them. Everybody should be giving a chance to work with the administration in such a way that learning is maximized (through thorough updates) and ministers assisted (left to the discretion of ministries). Here I would also like to point out that I will ensure no citizen is left behind and would like to see new citizens better looked after.

Our society needs to be revived (this means encouraging more people to our shores, updating our wiki, fulfilling everything mentioned above while constantly promoting our culture and entertainment). There is no limit to the progress we can make here and we have the resources to stimulate such progress.

As you probably noticed there is nothing too mind blowing here (all in the interest of remaining practical) however if everything mentioned above is realized we will effectively have both real and radical change in eIreland. I will be elaborating on/adding to these points soon.

Who are you running with Severin?
This would be a good time to announce my running mate, Grainne Ni Mhaille. This probably doesn't come as a surprise to some as I have worked with Grainne in the past and I have spoken highly of her in the media. Quite frankly I am very lucky to have her running with me and I have never come across a citizen as dedicated as her in my time here. Most of you I am sure know Grainne from her role in the Department of Defense (our military wouldn't be much or what it is today without her) and this month she has had an imperative role in the running of this country. In short, I am grateful to have such a capable, knowledgeable and hard working citizen behind me and together I am certain we can get a lot of great things done for eIreland.

Before I close I would like to take the time to thank the Irish Radical Party for the support they have given me and all those who have giving their support the party. Feel free to check out the IRP Wiki and IRP forum, or feel free to sign up here. We'd be more than happy to have you.
