[APP] An Update on the Country President / Prime Ministerial Campaign

Day 2,016, 03:10 Published in Australia Australia by Paul J Keating

One of the commitments I made when running for Party President of the APP was to continue APPs democratic approach to selection of a Country President/Prime Minister (PM) candidate.

That process is now in full swing. With the campaign having kicked off early I chose to open the pre-selection debate early. I thank all of the candidates who have joined the pre-selection debate for contributing so willingly despite being pre-occupied with the business of running the country.

The pre-selection debate is taking place on the APP’s public forum (a part of the eAustralian forums). Everybody is welcome to join the discussion and ask questions of the candidates, this is not just for APP members. If you have a question you’d like answered by one of the PM candidates take the opportunity to get involved, we’d love to hear your thoughts and the candidates would no doubt appreciate an opportunity to engage with the voting public to explain their platform and policies in detail.

A quick summation:

The campaign was kicked off by Mick Gatto announcing his candidacy. Under new Party President Callumh123 the KHMC came out in support of his campaign to promote change and promote activity.

Long time ARP party president and current Chief of Staff Molly Jo then joined the campaign, followed by a typically abstract announcement from majester.

All candidates are participating actively in the pre-selection discussion and have outlined their plans and responded to questions about military organisation and funding and government finances. Mick Gatto has pulled out of the race citing allegations of receiving RL threats from people connected with another campaign. Some disagreements on the running of cabinet have spilled over into the discussion however overall the debate is being conducted in the spirit intended, to inform and educate the public on the respective candidate’s merits and allow an educated decision.

There’s still 8 days to go until the election, so get involved and ask questions of the candidates, make sure your voice is heard!

For APP members - in a day or so I’ll open a thread on the APP private forum with a poll to select the candidate our party will support in the upcoming election.
