[AMP] Midterm Congressional Update

Day 2,423, 09:00 Published in USA USA by OfficerFriendly

Since it’s approximately halfway through my first term as an eUS congressman, I figured it’s about time for me to do a little “Midterm Congressional Update.” I’m going to talk about all that’s been going down in public congress these past couple of weeks. The threads will be linked in my discussion of the events, for ease of access. And, I’ll also throw in a small breakdown of how our AMP senators were involved in the action. Let’s begin with a tasty jam.
Tasty Jam
So far this term, there have been 3 basic types of events in the Public Congress Forum: standard procedural stuff, congressional censure discussions, and threads that branched off of previous conversations in congress.

Standard Procedural Stuff

Like every congressional term before it, this one started off with the nominations for another Speaker of the House - our 79th, to be exact. The race was between Derphoof and Jude Conners. Derp ended up winning the final vote, 26 to 13.

Discussion on the eUS budget for July began shortly after the SoH vote was completed. The USAF line ended up being reduced by 50k, and the proposal and vote passed with no problems.

After DMJ won the July CP Elections, he came to congress to discuss his New Citizen Message. He is currently waiting for Plato to stop being an idiot so he can change it in-game. I am currently taking bets on how long that takes.

Congressional Censures

Raphael3 was censured by the SoH for breaking IES regulations. A discussion was opened, but no proposal was made to overturn it. His censure will end after this congressional term.

Another discussion was opened to censure John Largo for alleged vote-buying during his recent CP campaign. The proposal passed to a vote, where the final tally was 7 for, 29 against, and 9 abstaining. Largo retains his congressional membership both in-game and on the forums.

Reactionary Discussions

There have been 4 threads opened in congress (that all remain open today) in reaction to other previous congressional threads: one to ban all rogue in-game proposals, one to include all SoH nominees in the final vote whether they accept or not, one to discuss discussion in non-discussion threads, and one to legislate an automatic punishment for all congressmen who buy votes.

General F***ery

Last, but certainly not least, is a thread opened by Delyruin for complete nonsense. The idea behind it is congress can get bogged down in serious, partisan debate, and he wanted to create a place where we can just make stupid jokes and laugh together. I think he deserves a Nobel Prize for it - maybe even all of them.
Though there haven’t been a lot of votes in public congress so far this term, here’s how AMP’s 11 senators have performed in each of them:

SoH Election - 7 for Derphoof, 0 for Jude Conners

July 2014 Budget - 7 Yes, 0 No

Censure of John Largo - 0 Yes, 6 No, 2 Abstain
That’s all that’s been going on in congress this term. Make sure to check the public congress forums every once in a while, even if you’re not a congressman! It’s a great way to get involved, and to make sure you stay informed of what’s happening in your country. Also, it’s good practice in case you plan on running for congress yourself one day. 😉

Thanks for reading! Make sure to vote, comment, and subscribe if you liked it. I might try to continue doing these (even if I’m not in congress) since I read the forums anyway. You should expect another one at the end of the term.
