Free money? Buying votes?
Danie Fox
You may be wondering how Jimbojoy and Sir Humphrey Appleby have, combined, as many votes for their manifestos as there were voters last month - or indeed wondering how I (this is my first time in fairness!), or Martinoz or Ice Killa or hundreds of other people will manage to get our articles into the top 5, or get a Media Mogul medal. This is the answer: vote buying.
Dishonest or dedicated? Who cares, they've each paid me!
To purchase your way to the top news, it is going to cost you - about 12GBP per vote, of which 9 goes to the voters and 3 to the guy who runs the site, Railman (or one of his friends). Subscriptions are slightly more expensive, as they lead to a 5 gold reward and medal when you reach 1000, as well as being annoying for those who have subscribed to a newspaper they don't even like. To date, over 1,000,00 votes have been bought, and over £3,000,000 has been given back to voters. The top earner from this (other than Railman obviously 😛
) has earnt almost £33,000, which is roughly 16 gold (or nearly 0.01 gold if you're reading this on Dave).
President? That'll be £3000 please.
Whilst it may seem wrong to buy votes, especially without telling readers, this practice does help to bring important articles to the attention of those who might not otherwise see them - all it takes to get into the top 5 UK articles is 50 votes, which is a relatively cheap 600 GBP, or 0.3 gold. It also serves as a way of enriching the ordinary player like you or me - which is probably why you're reading this now.
So, if you want to be elected, consider using this link to buy your votes. It's pretty popular, I've voted for three presidential manifestos on it already today, and been paid 9 GBP each for them : D
If you just opened this article because you want to make easy money then sign up here to the erepublik market voters club, and get paid about 9 GBP per vote or 11 GBP per sub! There are over 89 articles or newspapers currently in the queue, meaning that anyone with some time on their hands can make nearly 1000 currency just with a few clicks : ) You also get to see who is buying their way into the top news and who doesn't actually deserve their Media Mogul medals - it's quite interesting to see.
I likes monies
Remember: just because an article has a lot of votes in the media doesn't mean it is popular.

Comments
You can usually tell whether votes have been bought, as the article will have very few comments for its apparent popularity.
So tempted to buy votes for this article..
When I click on those links erepublic says they are malicious and returns me back here.
I've already bought votes for it (200), to see how it does compared to the manifestos. I'm editing the links atm to not include = signs, which are considered malicious for some reason.
But the voters club still work? It´s quite old...
I still feel it is wrong and don't like it.
Cheating to some degree as you are receiving Media Mogul for not actually having the genuine subscribers, merely ones who are after money.
But I wont argue it here, only make my point.
Wouldn't it be better if manifesto's, CP announcements and the like are given their own section like newspaper articles?
Just a thought....
I agree, but you''d be suprised how many do it, so many that if you want to compete you have to play along. There are separate sections if you want, but they aren't really looked at by most people.
Seems like a bit of a slap in the face to the younger players.
We pretend that we try and want them to get involved and give them a bit of food. But what we don't tell them is that "don't bother writing articles, the older players have bought all the top places and your articles will not get a chance to be read"
They can't afford to play along. The less people that take part the better i say
U PAY ME MONEH NAO
Of course, in the very old days, you could pay gold to Plato and he'd put a link to your article on advertising banners down the sides. It was one of the old gold sinks for the game - by removing the gold from player's hands, more gold would need to be bought / donated for for other things.
Of course, there have also been various government run "Media Module" schemes where people sign up to get their media medal. How it worked was that everyone who joined had to subscribe to everyone
else's papers.Once you had 1000 players on your list, anyone who joined thereon would find themselves with 1000 subscribers at the end of the week when the various "make sure you have subscribed to" lists were published.
In terms of buying votes etc, it could be a useful tool for new players to exploit. As the article says above, a decicated seller could make £1000 per day which is a lot and tax free!
And from new players buying subscriptions, £600 is affordable every few days.
I've only done it this once to tell others about it - if you see these articles with 250+ votes you might not bothering trying to compete, but knowing how they've done it gives you a chance. Everyone can afford it though - it's 0.3 gold for 50 votes, and everyone can get gold from HW, SS or Patriot medals.
Voted that will be 3 GBP please

Welcome to last year. See my media mogul?
^I know, how do you think I got mine? We've got a lot of new players who haven't heard about this though, plus if you use the links I get referral bonuses.
@Danie Fox: you are right about buying votes, but I wish to defend both Martinoz and Ice Killa. Their articles are just quite good. Trolling articles, like Martinoz one, always gets many votes without buying, because people love them. what more, people on the whole world hate Turkey, so they give votes with pleasure : D Keep in mind also, that Martinoz publish his article in Poland where he could get for this article over 400v for free - and get to top international where he get another 600v.
On the other hand, Ice Killa wrote quite interesting articles, which people like to read. He spam a lot with links to his articles, so really many have chance to open it, and if them like it - left vote. He has over 2k friends, so he doesn't need to buy votes - he just get them from his friends. This friends quite often shout links to his articles (because this are good articles) so he get another votes. Without buying.
I know they are good, I was surprised that they bought them, but then again the current system is such that if you don't buy the votes you'll be left behind because everyone else has.
Not really proud of buying votes, but I had to raise awarness of myself in Bulgaria - get spotted. Without doing it, you are left in the shadows of the media module.
