[UKGov]Owning a Company

Day 1,308, 15:18 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by eUK Home Office

First Day Guide

Company Ownership, Gold, & New Players
I'm often asked by new players, what's the best way to start off? First, and most importantly is DON'T WASTE YOUR GOLD. Gold is eRepublik's universal currency and is becoming increasingly harder to get. New players should NEVER use their gold on Health Kits or Enhanced Strength Training. Gold is a precious commodity and should be horded.

If you're a new player, here is an handy little guide written by Blaggard to get you going on the road to Company Ownership.

First Day, Starting Up.
Every citizen beings the game with 0 EXP & 5 GBP

-Get Job, Work. +1 EXP & 23 GBP ((based on current Apprentice Salary))
-Train. +2 EXP
-Complete Daily Tasks. +1 EXP[/list]
-Complete The Following Missions:
  • We Are All Warriors. +2, +5 EXP
-Join The Rebuilding Effort. +2, 7 EXP
    -Image Matters. +2, 9 EXP

    Now, it's time to battle!
-Go to a battle, any battle. Click fight 8 times. You should have killed a couple of people. You should have also ranked up and acquired a Energy Bar. Use the Energy Bar, you are now back to 100 wellness.
-Spend 15 GBP on food. Right now food costs about 0.30 GBP per wellness. You should be able to buy about 50 wellness worth of food. Heal yourself up and click fight 5 more times.
-Complete the mission Food is Scarce. Do not eat your food.
-You should have enough money to buy 1 Q1 weapon, buy one.
-Complete the Mission - Offense is the Best Defense.
-If you were lucky your fighting may have killed 5 people. If you have, complete the Mission - A Future Hero. If you didn't, don't worry, you can complete it in the upcoming days.

At the end of the first day you should have 26 EXP (or 28 EXP, if you killed 5 people and completed A future Hero). You will have 2 Gold because of this. DO NOT SPEND THIS GOLD.

The Grind Continues! (Day 2, 3, 4, etc.)
From now on you're on the Grind. Every day you need to log in, eat your food till you get 100 wellness, work, train, collect your reward, buy some food and then fight a little. From this point forward you won't be able to fight as much as you did on your first day. This is because Energy Bars will become harder to get. Whenever you do get a Energy Bar, fight till you cannot fight any more, then use the Energy Bar.

When you get to level 12, you should have accumulated some gold. Save any gold you have right now to upgrade your food company to Quality Level 2 (see Starting Up below.)

Starting Up

Free Companies for Everyone!
The first thing you should know about company ownership is - You're already a company owner! New players are given a gift by Plato of Three Grain Companies (Food Raw Material) and One Q1 Food company. These companies are in 'disrepair' and need to be worked on before you can begin producing goods. Click on the My Land page and hover over the derelict buildings. Click on them once to 'repair' them and turn them into working companies.

Companies after being repaired are ready to go! You are now free to produce raw materials and make food.

I Need More Companies! (Company Requirements)
To create your own company you must meet three basic requirements. You must be experience level 12, you must have an empty land slot, and you must have either currency or 10 on your citizen. After you meet this requirements you're ready to create your own company! Select "My Land" at the top of the page and then click on any free land spot (Look for empty lands which say "Build" on them.)

In this image, one land is ready to be built on while another waits to be unlocked. You may unlock additional plots of land to build companies on at a cost of 1,000 currency.

Choosing an industry
So you've decided to build a company! Now you need to decide which industry you'd like to make. Currently eRepublik has 4 industries you can choose from. Two 'raw material' industries (Food Raw Materials & Weapon Raw Material) which produce the resources needed to produce eRepublik's two 'finished goods' products (Food and Weapons)

Only you can decide. Food, Weapons, Food Resources, or Weapon Resources?

Note: Each time you work in one of your companies, you will lose 10 wellness.

Raw or product: pros and cons
Every player starts off with three food raw material companies and one Q1 food company. If you've been saving up your gold you should be almost ready to either purchase additional raw material companies or upgrade your food company to Q2. If you decide to upgrade your food company first, you'll need to purchase raw materials from the marketplace before you can begin using your Q2 food company to its maximum efficiency. If you choose to create a raw material company, you can begin using it right away to produce either food or weapon raw materials.

Knowing your market
Understanding the value and price of goods is an acquired skill that depends on many factors. Much like in a real economy perceived shortages in supply, declining currency value, and changes in company rules can all contribute in rising the cost of both resource and finished goods. Likewise, surpluses in production, reduced demand, or a rising currency price can push prices down. Learning how to identify and react to these market changes takes time and a bit of practice. One common practice, particularly if you are self producing your own goods, is to match your price with that of the lowest market offer to ensure your goods will be sold quickly.

Resources and other bonuses
In eRepublik, not all raw materials are created equal. Each region of the Country contains a specific ' natural resource' which can be found on the Economy Section of the Country Page. In the United Kingdom we have 5 natural resources, they are Fish, Iron, Cattle, Oil, and Aluminum.

The number of natural resources your country controls effects how productive your workers are. For each natural resource your country owns, you and your workers will earn an additional 20% to their base productivity.

Note: THIS AFFECTS BOTH RAW MATERIAL COMPANIES AND FINISHED GOODS!

For each 'natural resource' your country controls, you receive a production bonus of 20% (both on raw materials, as well as finished goods.)

Companies for sale
Not only can you create companies, but you can also buy and sell companies. To buy a company select the Marketplace tab at the top and select Companies for Sale. Buying a company will require you to have an empty land slot (similar to creating a company) and will also require gold to purchase. On this page, you can see the companies sell price listed along with the industry type.

Note: Raw Material Companies may not be sold between players.

Guide to buying (don't get tricked and pay more than the company is worth)
Sometimes people will list companies for more than they are worth. You should never pay more than the value it costs to create or upgrade a new or existing company. Don't pay more than the price listed below.
One Star (Q1 Company) - 10 or less.
Two Star (Q2 Company) - 30 or less.
Three Star (Q3 Company) - 80 or less.
Four Star (Q4 Company) - 180 or less.
Five Star (Q5 Company) - 380 or less.

Setting up in another Country
When you create a company, your company will immediately be founded in country in which you have citizenship. Should you change your citizenship later, you are allowed to 'migrate' your company to your new home country. Options for changing your company's location can be found in the My Land page by hovering over your company's icon and selecting Company Details.

A Public Face

A name you can trust
Part of company ownership is picking a Company Name. Your companies name is set during the 'company creation process' and is found on the Create Company page. All employees working for you will display the company name on their user page in the Activity Section below their personal avatar.

I'm still not convinced this is the best company name ever.

Changing Your Companies Name and Description
You may change your company's details at any time by selecting the Company Details options in the Land Page.

Hovering over any company will produce a drop down box, one of those options will be Company Details. Click it to enter the Company Overview.

Once inside, you will see your Company, complete it all its glory. With the name, number of employees and company description. To edit these options, click the Gear in the top right corner and select Edit Details.

Look for the Edit Details button in the Manage Company drop down box, the click it.

From here, we can see the Edit Details Page. This page will let you modify your company name, and description seen in the Company Overview Page. When you're done, click Save Changes.

Production

Your Workforce
Now, it's time to hire some workers! Each company can employ an unlimited number of workers. To view your companies employees, click the Manage Employees icon from the company drop down box on your Land page.

Anyone in there? Let's find out.

Posting a Job Offer
After you've entered the Manage Employees page, you're now ready to post a job offer!

Click the Job Offers tab tor each the post new job offer page.

Now that you're on the job offers page, you're ready to post an offer.

To post a new offer, select the Economic Skill level of the employee you wish to hire, the number of employees you would like to hire (offers), and the daily salary each will receive.

Note: Check the Job Market prior to posting an offer will give you an idea of how much you should be paying your workers. One typical approach is to pay 0.01 GBP more than the highest offer. This ensures that your job appears at the top of the list.

When you're ready, click Save to post your job offer to the Job Market.

Health and Productivity
Your in-game health (wellness) use to affect your work productivity, however it does not affect your productivity anymore. Every time you work in your own companies you will lose 10 wellness and you'll also lose 1 wellness for every quality level a company has (up to Q5 - 5 wellness) in your standard job. Note: If your primary job is a raw material company, you will lose 1 wellness when you work.

Manager Actions
As a manager, you have the option of firing and adjusting your workers salary. To keep general managers from reducing salaries right after a worker joins, you are required to pay the posted salary for at least 3 days before you can modify it. To access the Manager Options, visit the Employee Page. Click the Manage Employees icon from the company drop down box on your Land page.

Here we can see the employee name, skill level, daily productivity, and salary. To change the salary, just type in the new amount and click the blue pen icon. Or, if he or she isn't being productive (or has stopped working) click the red button to fire them.

Storage
Your storage area is a special building that all players recieve and is the central location where all your products and raw materials are placed in. Every product or raw material your company produces will be added to your storage when it is bought or produced. If your company requires a raw materials (like food or weapons) the raw materials will be taken from your storage automatically. The storage is also the place where products may be listed on the Marketplace.

It looks tiny, but it's bigger on the inside.

Buying Storage
Every player beings the game with 1,000 free storage slots. You can purchase more by navigating to the My Land page and clicking an empty plot of land. This will bring up the Create New Company page.

Select Storage from the drop down box, and let's take a look at our options.

Here you can see the two different types of storage available to players. Normal storage can hold an additional 1,000 units and Large Storage can hold 9,000. Keep in mind, each storage unit requires a Free Land Space, so if you plan to buy several small storage units, you may also be required to purchase additional lands.

Profit and Loss

Getting your goods out there
Alright! So, you've done the hard work of producing goods and now you're ready to put the up on the Marketplace and make some cash. The first thing you'll need to do is access the Storage building. Click on My Land then click on the Storage building (it will be the 3rd building from the top) to enter the Storage Center.

The Storage building will show all the products you have either produced or bought from the Marketplace. Once you built up a nice stockpile, you're ready to begin selling goods on the marketplace!

Posting the right thing
Now that you've got some products for sale, it's time to list them! Click the Product box bring up a drop down menu. Then select the type of product and quality level you wish to sell then click it to select.

The drop down box will help you select the right product. I'm going to list some Q3 Moving Tickets.

Fixing a price
Before you list, calculate how much you have spent on the raw materials and employee salary so you know your 'break even amount' so you'll know how low you can sell at. Next, check the Marketplace and find out the current price of your products. If you're listing Raw Materials (iron, grain, etc.) it's a common practice to match the lowest price. If you're selling Weapons, Food, or other finished goods you can either match the lowest market price or sell it for slightly less so your items are bought first.

I'm ready to list my 100 Q3 Moving Tickets for 35 GBP each. It looks like I'm also paying a bit of tax (see below) now all I need to do is click Add on Sale.

Salaries
For information on posting a Job Offer, see above. Salaries are set by the market and move up and down based on strong or weak demand in the Marketplace. Either by pushing the value of goods up and increasing wages or driving the value of goods down and depressing them. The gold value of currency is also strongly linked with the Job Market. If you have good workers in your company, make sure to pay them well or you will lose them. Check salaries regularly and reward citizens who enrich you.

Taxes
The only thing certain in life is death and taxes and I'm not so sure about that first one. In eRepublik there are 3 types of taxes:

Income Tax
Also known as the Worker Tax, all Citizens who work in a company (self production pays no Income Tax as you do not earn income working as a manager) are required to pay a percentage of their listed Salary into the Country Accounts.

Value Added Tax (VAT)
Whenever a good which requires a resource to produce (Weapons, Food, etc.) is listed on the Marketplace the lister must pay a VAT (resources pay no VAT.)

Import Tax
If you own a Market License to export your goods to another country, you must pay that countries Import Tax. In some instances, import taxes are left at very high levels to prevent the importation of goods, reducing pressure on the currency and to encourage domestic production. Other times, they are left very low to drive prices down and fill 'holes' where no domestic company exists (or if demand out paces supply.)

Competition
If you're going to hire workers, do a good job. Make sure they always have resources to produce goods (if they are making a finished product) and have plenty of currency to pay their salaries. Treat people like people and do a good job for those that help you.

Buying and selling overseas
Selling products overseas can be tricky. Pay careful attention to the countries currency value (the value at which currency can be exchanged for gold) as well as the countries Import Tax. Only sell overseas if you can make more money doing it, otherwise, you're better off selling products in your home market. Do research before you purchase a license, look for countries with low Import Taxes and expensive markets.

License
To purchase a license, head over to the Storage area again.

Ready to buy? Click the buy license button below the Market Box. Select the country you wish to export to and click Buy Market License.

A Quality Product

The hallmark of any quality product is price and availability. The greater your ability to produce goods without interruption the more reliable your products will become to other players. Reliable company owners are often rewarded by players who choose their products over another as a matter of personal preference.

Raw Materials
All finished goods require raw materials to produce and each quality level requires a different number of raw materials per product. Here is the distribution of raw materials to completed goods.

The number of raw materials needed to complete 1 finished good (per quality level.)

Self Sufficiency

The Benefit of Self Sufficiency

Self sufficiency is so awesome, they've even got a bible now.

The first goal in company ownership is to become self sufficient (that is, to produce enough food to eat up to 300 wellness per day.) Our good friend, Dan Moir, has designed a great Company Calculator Tool that will help you as you're building your companies.

Company Building Order
So, in what order should a new player build companies? Here is what our resident awesome-company-guy Blaggard suggests -
Since all new players start off with 3 Grain Companies (Food Raw Material) and 1 Q1 Food Company (Finished Good) additional buildings should be constructed in this order - Q2 Food (upgrade), Q3 Food (upgrade), Hunting Lodge (new building), Q4 Food (company upgrade). After you've done that, then start going after weapons and weapon raw material companies, upgrading your Weapons Company all the way up to Q5.

The reason for upgrading to Q4 food is to make money to be able to pay for the weapons. Don't go for Q5 food unless you're buying gold or you want to fight more and work less. Or, wait for a 50% off company upgrade promotion (as it costs as much to upgrade to a Q5 company as it does to make another Q4.) When you don't have Food Raw Material Companies, buy the difference. It's more efficient to buy raw materials and work for food.

NOTE: You may also purchase a Rubber Plantation instead of a Hunting Lodge if you want. Since Weapon Raw Materials are more productive in the eUK, it's likely you will be able to sell the Weapon Raw Materials and purchase more Food Raw Materials from the Marketplace than you could have self-produced had you purchased a Hunting Lodge.

Thanks for reading, and good luck on your way to being a millionaire!
