[The] Ambience
Mary Chan
I specifically recommend Zoë to accompany this article to set the mood.
am·bi·ence (noun)
· the character and atmosphere of a place.
am·bi·ent
· (adjective) of or relating to the immediate surroundings of something.
· (noun) a style of instrumental music with electronic textures and no persistent beat, used to create or enhance a mood or atmosphere.
My interpretation of 'ambient' music differs from the definition in the sense that it doesn't need to be created by electronic textures, just texturing of sorts, and that persistent rhythms can create or enhance a mood or atmosphere.
As some of you may know, I'm a musical person. Well, everyone is a musical person to an extent, and I'm not that far out there, perhaps... Occasionally, I have eclectic tastes and tendencies. I enjoy hearing new focuses of music-- specific ways sound is woven together. If I can truly appreciate one aspect of a piece, I can enjoy it and that aspect will always engage me with the music. The converse is also true: if I detest/abhor one aspect of a piece, it can ruin my experience with the piece. The same can be said about eRepublik.
The game was always mediocre, with few moments where game mechanics would be in keen players' favour instead of Plato's RL favour, or where select passionate events and battles occurred. eRepublik is not detestable, so my experience was never ruined. But, I couldn't help but appreciate the community or, rather, the former community which this is a shadow of what it was. I, myself as a fellow eCanadian character, am also a shadow of my former self.
What's loved is fading. It's becoming ambient. The once-great community is being swallowed up into a mediocre game. The community is perpetually fading, from the birth of the first inactive. It's not gone, it's here, but not apparent.
In music, I love ambience created by repetition and seamless layers. It makes it easier to pull out the highlights and to enjoy it at its fullness. Unfortunately without the community, there isn't anything else that can be highlighted and enjoyed to its fullness. Ain't the two-clicking glory grand?
But all it takes is a spark to ignite a flame. I'm not expecting wildfire, just a glimmer will do. Let me see a community one more time.

Coming from the person who didn't even bother coming on for the IRC strikes when I held them. That reminds me have to set it up again.
I forgot about it last time lol.
With my mountain of debt I couldn't afford to endorse this.
After emptying my account I don't have enough to do much more than give an endorsement. lol
Still kicking

Our attachment to this place is completely nonsensical and yet, there it is.
Searching for resonance, that's probably what it is and what is finally missing.
Nice article. Wish I could've gotten to know you better, I'm somewhat a music nut myself. Loved Zoe Keating, never heard of her before. If you like cello, I recommend The Piano Guys. This is my personal favorite:

Good riddance! And hail us, the players. Hail the community!
There is still a chance to get to know me. (:
Glad you liked my recommendation.
I've listened to The Piano Guys before. They make nice covers, but I tend to appreciate their originals more. Zoe's very much under the radar; 'tis the greater trend of an indie musician.
Mary, you total hipster! 😛
No, I have yet to move to Vancouver and shame Starbucks for substandard coffee.
Still here. Still clicking.

A nice article from a nice person, and a nice song from a talented person - the only bad thing about this article was that I read it on eRePUKEblic.
I don't hate this browser game because I don't expect much from it. And you ask people to log on more often, but I don't understand what there is to even do after logging on and 2-clicking. I guess read some articles, which is what I do. But after that there isn't much left.
Spent $20 the other day on a game and that's what I do with my free-time when I have it. But eRep is more habit than entertainment, I can't imagine how anyone can really consider this browser-game as entertainment.
But that requires effort... Writing articles and comments is too complicated for my widdle bwain.
I keed I keed. I'll smoke to that.
2-clicking away
I don't mind checking in and reading the media still. The game itself is becoming kind of pointless to me though. I'd be all for declaring world peace and finding another way for nations to compete. I nominate Rylde to be captain of the eCanadian Spelling Bee Team.
lol, we might as well appoint Rylde to be the grammer nazi as well. either way, their will be chaos and annoyed people. (;
Time for a new Revolution. It would be fun, to go out with a bang.
Mary... We always have Paris.
hint: Do you like the cinema?
Thank you for introducing Zoë Keating to me... I am an uncultured swine.
It sounded familiar, but I didn't get it until I revisited this [months after].
"Here's looking at you kid."
I'm still waiting for Leo or myself to organize a get-together...
I said I'd do it, but I slacked so Leo said he'd do it...and now here we are 🙁
~glimmer~
I went to the first one, it was a good time. Tembutt was a blast. 🙂 Alas, the two players who attended with me, died long ago.
sometime next week, I'm planning on heading downtown to meet up with some friends. wanna do lunch around the area? idk lol
Well, I'm on vacation but am going to Vegas from monday to friday morning I think. Friday afternoon? 😃
I suppose I should bother Leo and let him know, anyone else?
actually, I have plans with mum, but I can do something the week after
