Music Pick: The Sun Will Set - Zoë Keating
I specifically recommend Zoë to accompany this article to set the mood.

am·bi·ence (noun)
· the character and atmosphere of a place.

am·bi·ent
· (adjective) of or relating to the immediate surroundings of something.
· (noun) a style of instrumental music with electronic textures and no persistent beat, used to create or enhance a mood or atmosphere.

My interpretation of 'ambient' music differs from the definition in the sense that it doesn't need to be created by electronic textures, just texturing of sorts, and that persistent rhythms can create or enhance a mood or atmosphere.

As some of you may know, I'm a musical person. Well, everyone is a musical person to an extent, and I'm not that far out there, perhaps... Occasionally, I have eclectic tastes and tendencies. I enjoy hearing new focuses of music-- specific ways sound is woven together. If I can truly appreciate one aspect of a piece, I can enjoy it and that aspect will always engage me with the music. The converse is also true: if I detest/abhor one aspect of a piece, it can ruin my experience with the piece. The same can be said about eRepublik.

The game was always mediocre, with few moments where game mechanics would be in keen players' favour instead of Plato's RL favour, or where select passionate events and battles occurred. eRepublik is not detestable, so my experience was never ruined. But, I couldn't help but appreciate the community or, rather, the former community which this is a shadow of what it was. I, myself as a fellow eCanadian character, am also a shadow of my former self.

What's loved is fading. It's becoming ambient. The once-great community is being swallowed up into a mediocre game. The community is perpetually fading, from the birth of the first inactive. It's not gone, it's here, but not apparent.

In music, I love ambience created by repetition and seamless layers. It makes it easier to pull out the highlights and to enjoy it at its fullness. Unfortunately without the community, there isn't anything else that can be highlighted and enjoyed to its fullness. Ain't the two-clicking glory grand?

But all it takes is a spark to ignite a flame. I'm not expecting wildfire, just a glimmer will do. Let me see a community one more time.
