Setting the Record Straight
Walpole
Dear friends in eGreece,
Greetings from eTurkey.
I think you can easily guess what the topic of this article will be. Before beginning, I just want to underline that I am an ordinary eTr citizen and journalist, who feel quite crossed about the recent article about "neutrality" published by your government.
https://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-day-3718--2662592/1/20
I don't speak Greek. I used Google Translate to decipher the content of the article.
I wish I did not; It was something worse than I could ever imagine.
Don't presume that I feel betrayed because you are on the path of changing your diplomatic alignment. eGreece like any other country is sovereign; determining its foreign policy and deciding its preferred alliance is absolutely your right and privilege, regardless of how ridiculous and ill-thought, ill-prepared it is.
I am particularly crossed about paragraphs about eTr, planted into that government article, apparently in order to legitimize Greek government's absurd move.
Things written in that article about eTr is not misinformation, it is disinformation, as the author of the article being a government member clearly knows what he wrote were flagrant lies.
1- Trilateral NAP for the duration of 3 months among Greece-Fyrom-Bulgaria came into effect in October 9th, 2017. Was Turkey notified about it? Nope. Did Greek government of the time make any effort to bring Turkey into treaty? Nope. Can we describe it as a "Greek foul" against Turkey? To me, nope. I don't know how the current Greek government replies to that question.
Following your trilateral NAP, Turkey was invaded by Bulgaria and Poland. None of us in eTurkey thought we should blame Greeks for it. Because it would be ridiculous, wouldn't it?
2- When we come to January 2018, trilateral NAP among Greece-Fyrom-Bulgaria was about to expire. And Turkey was doing pretty well in the war against Bulgaria.
The idea of a quadrilateral NAP agreement among Greece-Fyrom-Bulgaria-Turkey was coined by Turkish government, not by Greek one. And the Turkish reasoning for that was to use the diplomatic capital earned in eTr-eBg war to provide some extra protection to Greece, which was already trying to free herself from Romanian invasion.
3- As the Greek government's article confirms, both Fyrom and Bulgaria were quite cold to the idea of the quadrilateral NAP. Since I am not a government official, I cannot know exact chronology of the discussions. But, there is no need to be a fortune teller to guess, either they were planning to invade Turkey by a joint operation. Or, they were positioning themselves against Greece as the "Hungarian variable" was looming into Greek-Romanian "equation"
4- Greek government's article, after confirming both Fyromanians and Bulgarians were absolutely against the idea of quadrilateral NAP, somehow suggests there was a chance for it, claims Turkey blew it altogether by signing a bilateral NAP with Bulgaria.
I contacted Turkish CP, deliormanli, via PM and inquire about it. He says "Bilateral NAP was signed only after it was absolutely clear that there was no prospect of signing quadrilateral NAP". And Greek government knew it.
5- In Greek government's article, there was a reference to Greece's "brave attitude". I have been around in this game for 7 years; I have seen countless occasions that I witnessed Greece displayed the acts of heroism, bravery, principled attitude. That is why Greece was my favorite eCountry for years.
Yet, I am afraid the particular "brave attitude", the current Greek government brands, is not one of them.
We in eTurkey in past 2 months valiantly fought against our common enemies. Our principle aim was not about gaining some vain concept of glory, or keeping Bulgaria under occupation indefinitely. Our principle aim was to draw Assteria's fire power to ourselves and drain it; so our allies, including Greece, could free itself from invasion. We bled extensively in terms of resources, CC, EB, time and sleep for that aim.
And we hoped and waited for Greeks to get their act together, settle their differences among themselves, unify their country around a common purpose and cleanse their land from Romanian invaders. It did not happen.
In return of our sacrifices and good intentions, now we are being labeled as some sort of treasonous people, looking after only our own interests. And worse, we are being labeled as such by a Greek government.
That makes me quite sad.
Perhaps, I have written way too long. Alas, my articles are generally like so.
I just wanted to set the record straight and expressed my personal disappointment.
I actually wanted an article of this nature should be written by eTurkish government to set record straight. And I asked them to do so. They declined my demand, they don't want to take part any humiliating act against Greek government, because it might offend Greek people. Quite a selfish attitude from selfish Turkish government representing selfish Turkish people, I presume.
Before I finish, I just want to share a couplet from Mehmet Akif, Turkey's national poet died 1930s.
Girmeden tefrika bir millete, düşman giremez;
Toplu vurdukça yürekler, onu top sindiremez.
It translates:
Enemy cannot enter to a country before dissension enters among people;
Artillery fire cannot subdue a nation as long as people's hearts beat in sync.
I don't know the path in your future, or how easy or difficult the days or months you will experience, or whether we will be friends or enemies.
What I know is: seeing a great eCountry like eGreece in bitterly divided and mostly diysfunctinal state is sad.
Regardless of whether we will be friends or enemies, please, for God's sake, pull yourselves together, unite your people, politically eliminate those who retard such unification and manifest yourself as a glorious eCountry as you should.
Best,
Walpole

When I read the Greek article about latest developements and contacted the president about it I was pretty sure it was clearly a communication issue between Turkish and Greek sides. It is a pity if both sides do not try to repair our relations. Those two nations are historical allies and friends I do not want to see them ruined...

Let the blame game begin!
There is no blame game. Just being honest or not. Greece declaring that they are neutral has nothing to do with eTr signing NAP or not. If you especially consider that MaM has been spending all his time to cover greece from getting deleted from SA by romania, we should just learn how to be honest. If greece wants to pursue new allies, they can do it anytime.

Let me quote you on something that you apparently missed on our article. So you are saying that we are divided and i Quote
"What I know is: seeing a great eCountry like eGreece in bitterly divided and mostly diysfunctinal state is sad."
In our article we clearly state and i quote
English
"Two days ago there was an open discussion with the greek community where people were informed for the latest updates to all "fronts"(millitary, political and diplomatic) as stated in the article
The opinion and the decision of everyone that attended, including the Goverment, The Political Chiefs, Millitary Chiefs and simple civilians was that Greece should declare neutrality"
i will add to that that out of all the people that attended there was not a single against vote to this decision. I will say that Greece in my eyes seem more united than it was during the past months.
Also you say we are disfuctional just 2 days after our article was published. In our article we state and i quote "ο νέος Πρόεδρος και η Κυβέρνησή που θα προκύψει από τις εκλογές της 5ης Φεβρουαρίου μπορεί να ανοίξει μια καινούργια ατζέντα για τη χώρα."
English, " The new president and the Goverment that will be elected for the elections of Februarth 5th can open a new agenda for the country"
i believe that its better to wait until something it is done from the new president before you jump into conclusions and call our Country is disfuctional.
Thank you.
well I am a vegetable, but I still have some questions:
1. everyone is using the word "neutral" everywhere now for Greece, please elaborate what does it mean in the grand scheme of things, cause those who declare themselves as "neutral" in this game, end up a licking farmland hole with 50 states
2. "i believe that its better to wait until something it is done from the new president", you are basically the next president, considering malakas have only one real candidate for months now, what kind of actions or side do you purpose?
Hey there
1. All i can say to the "neutral" part is that from now on we are considering every option we have with a diffrent point of view.
2. when the time comes for me to reveal the plans that we are working on with my team of advisors there will be an article posted by me.
Thank you.
the different point of view is almost impossible right now, cause:
a) no options
b) both erep and RL history
and myself am leaning towards reason (b)
but good luck
what do you mean no options both erep and RL history ?
@Roviros
I mean that this game is going on for over 10 years, and a lot of the stuff is based on RL shit, like Gric and Skopje, Ukraine - Putins, Hungiri - Adminlandia etc etc, these can be neutral to each other at most.
But there is also an erebuglik history of connections/grudges, without which quite a bit could be still possible.
I myself have been playing for shitty 4 years, but don't want to be allied with lolen or trumpland, even though I have nothing against them RL.
These factors generate the "farming" and "no foreign policy changes" for most of the countries.
I would really like to see some fun new alliances happening even if they sound stupid, like Romania-Hun-Chili-TR vs Gr-Argie-Srbistan-BG-Fylol, but that wont happen in this game.
Thank you for your extensive comment.
For the record, you have not said anything about the five subtitles in which I set the record straight about the disinformation propagated by current Greek government.
Your comment is solely aiming to respond my perception of division and dysfunction among Greek people. I wish you were right, and I was wrong.
I don't know anything about circumstances and extend of the "discussion" that you refer. I wrote many pseudo-philosophical articles about how national will emerge and shape. Fortunately for you, all are in Turkish, so you don;t need to suffer reading them. Simply, I am quite skeptical about decisions made by a number of people behind closed doors being pushed to us as consensual national will.
My first question is: How can a significant change of course for Greece, quite surreal one imho, receive a unanimous support from the attendees of your "discussion"? It does not make sense to me, unless number of attendees were quite minimal.
And let's say, many people attended, and consensus was clearly there. But there is the elephant standing in the middle of the room: The lies told by your government about eTr. Did these lies play a central role in the discussions? If yes, do you think the same consensus is still there, after those lies about eTr are removed form the argument?
Lastly, government article says " The new president and the Goverment that will be elected for the elections of Februarth 5th can open a new agenda for the country"
Am I the only one seeing logical trouble in this statement.
You are throwing bridges based on whims and disinformation. Then you say, next Greek government will deal with the issue.
If the current Greek government does have the mandate, why does not it start dealing with it after throwing bridges.
If the current Greek government does not have the mandate, by what right it throws the bridges and put the next Greek government in a difficult position?
i have written a big awnser and when i clicked reply the game stuck.
let me write again,
I didnt write about your subtitles because i have e-lived for 2 months and i only speak for things i know are facts. Unlike you and i quote "I don't know anything about circumstances and extend of the "discussion" that you refer." you are speculating, which is your right to do, but i do not make speculations as i can be wrong and then exposed.
Moving on,
To the first part of your question, i must admit that it saddens me the ammount of people we got to this discussion as a lot of people are "2 clickers". Although it makes me happy the fact that almost all the players i know that are "taking the game more seriously" attended the meeting. the overall number was somewhere between 75-85.
To your second question, i know for a fact that what we say is true as a representative from your nation in a closed group stated and i quote "I will not say smthg political or else. Reality was we were seriously out of stocks and power. Regarding with Greece it was our fault of miscommunication."
Having that in mind i wont continue to the second part of your question i would be speculating...
Lastly, i dont see anything wrong with this statement. You are again speculating that we disinform our people and can you please quote me on where i say that the next Greek Goverment will DEAL with the issue? I just said that in my opinion its better to wait and see what the next Greek Goverment will do before jumping into speculations and conclusions about our nation being a disfuctional one.
@Citizen Erased
As I write these words at this moment, there is an impeachment vote in Greek parliament. Many Greek players under this article express their skepticism of motives of current Greek government. I have been receiving many PMs and friendship requests from Greek players since I published this article. It seems to me all these observations prove the fact that UNANIMOUS decision taken by the gathering of "75-85" people you refer was not representing the true national will of Greek people.
That also means my "speculations" are standing still, while your "observations" look like "wrong and then exposed."
I don't know the identity of the Turkish "representative" you refer and his/her position in Turkish government or on what date he/she made that statement. But above all, I need more information about content and context of the discussion to evaluate meaning of the selective quotation you convey. Plus, extrapolating the possible Turkish admission of "fault of miscommunication" to "Turkish foul". "Turkish betrayal" is quite excessive, don't you think.
With regard to whether this Greek government or next one responsible for dealing with this issue.... I reiterate my previous comments. You don't burn bridges before you make sure you don't need those bridges. What current Greek government does is to burn bridges first, and inviting next government to build new ones. That is beyond absurd.
Speaking of analogies, let me give you one more. A loose one, but I guess not totally loose. Say, you are offering your ass to your enemies as a token of peace. If they take it, then you will be a whore. If they decline your offer, then you will have the reputation of a whore. I want neither for the eGreece. There is no prospect of any gain you can achieve for yourself by offering your ass as a token of goodwill.
If you aim is to join Assteria, or to become a Assterian satellite, so be it, go for it. But, you need some sort of leverage to achieve that goal. I see none
Approaching to Serbia as telling them "Hello, here is my ass, please take us IN and kick Romanians and Fyromanians OUT" will not likely produce the response that you desire.
Because, ass that you are offering does not constitute to be a leverage.
You sir, just crossed over the line. The fact that you are not a representative of your nation doesnt give you the right to insult me, our nation, our history and the goverment. You are once again speculating of what our plans may or may not be and on top of that you are suggesting that the result of your speculations Greece would be a whore. I am sorry but i will not take this any longer. Ive let this continue far-long-enough. so, the party is over. i will not awnser to anything more pouring out of your insulting and speculative mouth.I respect BOTH our nations to allow this to continue any longer
You should have been more carefull with your choice of words.
@Citizen Erased
They say it's a friend's duty to tell the unpleasant truth as direct as possible in order to save your friend from looming disaster. Even if it means to be the end of the friendship.
I am sorry if the analogy I refereed made you upset. I clearly said "I want neither (disaster) for the eGreece."
I am not insulting you. Not at all.
I am trying to wake you up before it is too late.
Probably you mean that the expression "offering ass" or even doing it is not insulting where you come from???!!!
Well sorry but in our part of the world and many others it is actually, so please be more careful with your expressions when "trying to protect us"
Could be lost in translation? We need to establish an open line of communication between the corresponding government officials, but thanks for the initiative master Walpole. xD
