Report from the Minister of Defence

Day 603, 10:36 Published in Ireland Ireland by Irish Department of Defence

Irish men and women, your attention please.

The world is at war, and for the past week myself and the war council along with Kiemar and his foreign affairs team have been working tirelessly to ensure that we know what is going on, and that Ireland is prepared for any and all eventualities.

Neutrality

On my recommendation, with Kiemar's support the Dáil will shortly pass bills agreeing to two vital documents which guarantee Ireland's safety. These are agreements with Harrison Richardson, the President of the United States and Arthk, the secretary general of PEACE GC that Ireland's neutrality and self-determination will be respected, provided Ireland guarantees the same to these powers.

It may strike you as yet more fence-sitting from the government but after a great deal of careful reflection and study it is my opinion that neutrality is the only course which we can trust to ensure our safety in these troubled times. We are caught between the frying pan and the fire and we have the option to hover. Long-term this is not, perhaps, the best option for us, but for now it will secure our interests.

Contingency

Certain plans have been made within the Department of Defence to ensure our safety should these agreements fail and our territory is attacked. I am now announcing the creation of a 'super-high force' division within the IDF who will be asked to stay in Ireland for the foreseeable future, they will be funded by a new DoD tank fund which has been provisioned by the Department of Finance.

If you are not a member of this new division, and your conscience demands that you fight in the new war, for either side, you may apply to your CO for temporary leave from the IDF to travel to one of the belligerent countries. You will not be supplied with weaponry or moving tickets and may be summoned back to Ireland on short notice, but you will most likely be allowed move out.

What can I do?

I am asking you to think long and hard, do not panic, and do not allow rash decisions influence your thoughts. Ireland is in a precarious situation, and needs all her sons and daughters to be brave in their loyalty and obedience to her needs. However, I am reasonably confident for now, that all though we stand on high alert, Ireland is safe for today and tomorrow at least, if not the next day.

Much Love
