Interview: Meme Master Karl004

Day 4,913, 08:20 Published in Canada Canada by Mann551
Meme Friday 50 is going to be published this Friday, which will mark the 1 year anniversary of Meme Friday. As such, I figured it an appropriate time to conduct an interview with the Meme Master himself, to find out more about what started it all, what he's enjoyed most, and what his future plans are. Read on below!

Hello Karl004, you are approaching doing Meme Fridays for almost a year now. Can you tell me what made you decide to start up Meme Fridays?

For most of my time on Erepublik, I was a two-clicker. Then, the Pandemic appeared, along with the Stay-at-Home Challenges. It was about that time that I discovered the full potential of epic battles and Weekly Rewards. I do believe that this event was one of the best that had ever happened in this game, both by its rewards and by its length. At one point, I was out of weapons and resource and had to borrow some. I opened up a newspaper and wrote an article asking for the generosity of eCanadians. Guys like Thedillpickl and yourself were a huge help. Shortly after that, I made a troll article to eUSA (the pizza flavored oreo). That was when eUSA was for CODE and was doing 'training wars' on Canadian soil. That's probably when the idea of doing memes more regularly came to me. I was surprised by the so little prevalence of memes in this rather big online community. I saw a niche and I jumped right in it.

Did you expect it to be a weekly production when you started?

I knew I was going to publish memes every Friday when I started naming my articles Meme Friday, but I didn't know for how long I would keep going, let alone for a full year. At first, I thought that Fridays where coming fast. Now, I think they are coming even quicker!

Do you feel your memes have gotten better throughout the weeks?

I don't know if my memes are getting better or not. What do you guys think? Personally, I'm not really worried with that. As long as one or two memes in a week makes you chuckle, I'm satisfied.

How has the reception to your memes been?

The reception has always been great. It went from curiosity to interest to literally having people looking forward to what you are about to publish on next Friday. How amazing is that! I even occasionally see people repost my articles on their own wall in a completely unsolicited manner. Really, you are indeed amazing!

Is there anything you wanted to do with Meme Friday that you haven't yet?

There are definitely things that can still be done with Meme Friday or should I say along with Meme Friday. One such thing will happen on Meme Friday 50 so be sure to be there. I am also seriously considering getting Imgflip pro so I can make full-size GIF that are not limited to 360p. You guys deserves better!

Which publication of Meme Friday is your favourite? Do you have a specific favourite meme?

I like the memes that represents milestones for me. I remember that the very first meme of the very first MF took me 2 hours to make, that I had so much trouble making the games tokens fall in MF2 and that I wasn't properly cropping my images before week 6 (seriously, go look back at MF 1-5, its shocking). Making that many memes made me learn a lot about Paint 3D, Imgflip and even Paint which in turn gives me the means of my ambitions. I often create memes from scratch and I like challenging myself while doing so. Of course the meme that gave 2nd place in Clopoyaur's Annual Meme Competition is special for me and you can count on me to represent Canada again next year. My article 'Power Spin Shenanigans' was vastly overlooked since I did it before I started doing Meme Friday and that I had 3 subscribers or so at the time but it could very well be considered the unofficial first Meme Friday by its format and its flow. The podium guy in this one is still one of my favorite to date.

Will you continue to post Meme Fridays every Friday?

Let me reassure you, I am here to stay. I love doing these so much that I pretty much do it as much for myself that I am doing it for others. it's crazy the level of self-discipline it gave me doing all this without missing a single week. I was single when I started a year ago but now I have a GF and despite her not knowing the first thing about memes, she understands my hobby and understand when I got to go to bed late on Thursday. Really, I won't be leaving anytime soon.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I use the events of the game, along with it's mechanics and it's community to make memes. I see a lot but I'm not omniscient. If you see something or want something to be 'memed', just tell me and I will 98% for sure do it for you. Also, do you think it's cringy when I like your comments on my articles? I think it's the right thing to do when I see something that I appreciate but I barely ever really see anyone do that. Just wishing to have your input on that. To finish, thank you so much to Mann551 for this idea of interview and for giving me a chance to talk to you about things that can't hardly be translated with the medium of meme. See you next Friday for the beginning of a new year of dank memes!

Thank you to Karl for the interview once again!
