Beyond the Fold - Unveiling the International Tribune

Dear Readers, Adventurers, and Those Who Dare to Dream,

Welcome to a realm where ink meets imagination, and pixels paint a tapestry of worlds unseen. Behold, the debut of the International Tribune — a beacon of enlightenment in an era where newspapers scuttle in the shadows of yesteryear. In a sea of mediocrity, the International Tribune rises as the guiding North Star, illuminating the arcane corners of the New World.

While other newspapers may profess to illuminate, more often they leave us stranded in the alleyways of mere mundanity. One might wonder if their inky pathways are painted by bored players, seeking to lull readers into a slumber as deep as the Georgian list of Top Rated Articles (most recent article published 130 days ago). Fear not! The International Tribune takes a leap into the future, breaking barriers that most active players don't even know exist.

Gone are the days of dull drivel! Within our digital pages, facts ignite like fireballs, each word spins a tale that conjures excitement beyond imagining. Yes, other publications may claim to do the same, but often their enchantments resemble more of a cheap yard sale than a Grand and Ancient Bazaar. In contrast, I.T. wields the keyboard of e-innovation, crafting truthy journalism that leaps from the screen and into your very soul.

While others indulge in tales of tedium, the International Tribune brandishes its narrative mission with the grace and precision of a hawk who has spotted a dozing chipmunk. We present to you not just news, but analysis that rips open the curtain from top to bottom. Oh brave centurions of eRepublik, join us as we navigate politics as intricate as Pfenix Quinn's courtships, explore e-mysteries as profound as the riddles of sphinxes, and you will no doubt exclaim "Surely this newspaper takes the cake!". In these pages, every story is a recipe that stirs the spirit.

So, noble readers, prepare to embark on a journey unlike any other. Let all those other papers linger in the dusty archives of antiquity, while the International Tribune proclaims from the pinnacle of modern enlightenment. Our pages are the e-parchment where legends are written, where the pixels pulse with possibility, and where news isn't just consumed — it's experienced.

May the ink forever flow in your favor,

The International Tribune Editorial Guild

A Giant Pudding

FACT! -- Power Math proves that Code is pudding.

Seven mighty alliances wage relentless battles. Each vying for dominance and the ultimate loot -- world supremacy!

Three audacious eRepubliks dare to stand alone as alliances unto themselves. Like daring emperors of old who would crown themselves, they go their own way. The Lazocrats, masters of strategy, have conquered South Africa and crowned it their Lazocracy. Brace yourselves for a tale of underdogs rising above their weight, coming up in just a moment.

As the only member of the MalaSin alliance, our deep linguistic analysis has revealed that Singapore, another mighty mite, is evidently bad without, that is, mala sin, at not having a partner with whom to dalliance. Hopefully they will find a dance partner.

Meanwhile, a surprising revelation: Germany's unexpected transformation into a Banana has everybody wondering if this is a clever way to trick other alliances into slipping and falling.

Amidst the political whirlwinds, a collection of unaligned countries is the hidden powerhouse. Imagine them rallying together, like punk rockers in a mosh pit, to declare themselves as "The Others" in a dazzling display of unity. Their combined "Respect-Our-Authoritay" number soars to an impressive 11,521, making them a force to reckon with.

Now, onto the reigning champions of the New World — the mighty, mighty Asteria alliance, whose combined Power score of 19,049 casts a formidable shadow. But lo and behold, the fierce rivalry with Code never stops! The Code alliance, eternal adversaries and sworn enemies of Asteria, commands a larger player population (9,403 vs. Asteria's 8,014) and boasts a broader range of nations (15 compared to Asteria's 11).

Yet, the true test of power lies not in those numbers, but in the total "Might-Makes-Right" score, the power-sum of an alliance's member-states. Here, Code alliance stumbles into a heap of jello pudding with a modest 4,943, a stark contrast to Asteria's dominance. In a strange twist of fate, even two smaller alliances — Pacifica and Hydra — surpass Code's Power Tool. With 7,839 and 5,598 respectively, these teeny teams of buddies wield greater oomf.

As the clash of e-civilizations bounces along its exhilirating path, who shall stand triumphant? Whose power will reign supreme? Will Code get debugged and start streaming some powerful algorithms one of these days? Will time eventually tear aside the final curtain and unveil the ultimate victor in this exhausting, abtruse, frazzling never-ending saga of conquest, cunning, and unexpected twists, turns and aerial bombardments?

Probably not. But here's another set of interesting facts...

Power Pops

FACT! -- Dividing Power by Population provides a pleasing perspective.

Dividing the Power of a country by its Population, or doing the same for an Alliance, reveals an interesting phenomenon. Quite a few countries have a Power-to-Pop ratio over 100%. A smaller number have a PowerPop below that. A number of countries have a PowerPop over 500% and seven countries have a PowerPop over 1000%. At the other end of the spectrum, 19 countries have a PowerPop under 75%.

There is only one Alliance with a PowerPop under 100%. It's poor old pudding-like Code, coming in with an aggregate PowerPop of only 53%.

A country that has a very low PowerPop percentage typically has a big population, but it lacks Power.

A power outage in eRepublikan terms means that a country or Alliance controls few regions and probably has a small number of strong, active, high-powered fighters and militias. This ratio is no doubt driven by many underlying particulars...
- How many players a country has who actually spend real money on the game.
- How many inactive dups or bots or new accounts are lying around in a given country.
- Whether the community in a country helps to build up its fighters capabilties.
- To what extent alliance partners or other foreign fighters helped to expand a country's colonies.
- And so on.

While the devil is certainly in the details, where the PowerPop provides a really interesting peek is into the relative and average internal state of health of a country. Whether or not it is a "big hitter" relative to the most powerful states (i.e., Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, North Macedonia, USA, and Serbia), a country with a high PowerPop has a population that, on average, is doing quite well.

Let's look at a few examples...

Top Ten Countries by PowerPop PerCentages...

Estonia Power-1786 | Pop-75 | PowerPop-2381% (wow!)
South Africa Power-1261 | Pop-81 | PowerPop-1557%
Singapore Power-504 | Pop-35 | PowerPop-1440%
New Zealand Power-592 | Pop-51 | PowerPop-1161%
United Arab Emirates Power-1182 | Pop-105 | PowerPop-1126%
Cyprus Power-758 | Pop-68 | PowerPop-1115%
Lithuania Power-1883 | Pop-184 | PowerPop-1023%
Cuba Power-463 | Pop-47 | PowerPop-985%
Netherlands Power-1137 | Pop-134 | PowerPop-849%
North Macedonia Power-3174 | Pop-390 | PowerPop-814%

The only country that is in the Top 10 in PowerPop and is also in the Top 6 of overall Power is North Macedonia.

The USA, for example, has a fairly low PowerPop of only 239%. Serbia is even lower, at 128%.

Looking at the PowerPop numbers within Alliances is interesting.

In Code, only one country has a PowerPop over 500%, Thailand at 508%. Code has 12 members with a PowerPop below 75%. The overall PowerPop for Code, an anemic 53%, lowest of any Alliance.

Asteria has no members with PowerPop below 100%. The lowest one is Colombia's, at 118%. On the other hand, despite including 4 of the 6 most powerful countries, including two who are currently Empires (power score over 4,000), none of the Asterian countries are Top Ten by PowerPop. The healthiest Asteria member PowerPop-wise is Moldova, at 605%. The overall collective PowerPop for Asteria is 238%.

Hydra, Orion and Wolf Alliances all have a collective PowerPop over 500%.

At the bottom of the PowerPop rankings we tend to see countries with large populations, but low Power rankings. In a perfect New World, these countries could probably use either some international aide or a revived player base. Some, like Indonesia, are still quite powerful relative to other countries. The PowerPop number reveals that they may need some internal work.

Bottom Ten Countries by PowerPop PerCentages...

France Power-215 | Pop-450 | PowerPop-48%
Russia Power-269 | Pop-685 | PowerPop-39%
Argentina Power-630 | Pop-1642 | PowerPop-38%
Georgia Power-264 | Pop-756 | PowerPop-35%
South Korea Power-212 | Pop-366 | PowerPop-33%
Turkey Power-315 | Pop-980 | PowerPop-32%
Indonesia Power-1049 | Pop-3759 | PowerPop-28%
Bosnia and Herzegovina Power-100 | Pop-367 | PowerPop-27%
Venezuela Power-54 | Pop-362 | PowerPop-15%
Boliva Power-12 | Pop-172 | PowerPop-7%

Power rankings change fairly often. This analysis is a snapshot from a given day in August, 2023.

Best wishes for good luck, fun game-play and happy hunting to all the players and nations of eRepublik!
