506 Congress Endorsements

Let’s Talk Politics

In real life, politicians struggle against one another for power so that their political ideology might become the prevailing force in the system. So politicians ought to have some idea what they stand for when it comes to economic theory, social policy, international diplomacy, military goals, and a host of other complex fields of opinion.

Voters, ideally, elect one politician above another because they hope to see the ideologies of their politician win the day. I know, the political scene in the real life USA lately has tended to look more like a bad episode of The Bachelorette (I’m guessing they all are, I wouldn’t know). But let’s reserve our cynicism for the subject matter of my previous article and keep our hopes high for this one.

Voters elect politicians so that the world they live in will look more like the world they want to live in.

But what about in eRepubik?

Yes, it does often seem more like an MTV’s Full House rerun! And even the least cynical among us should probably admit that most eRepublik voters are simply casting a vote for their “tribe” without really believing that there’s a substantive difference in how their tribe intends to conduct business vs. how the other tribes will do.

The 506 Party says, “let’s try something different”.

Right now, I am the Vice President of a 6th Party. We don’t send our members to congress because our party membership is not robust enough to qualify. We’re working to change that, and if you’d like to hop in on this new movement, you’d be welcomed with open arms. Even if your name is George!

But even after we are large enough to become a Top 5 party, it is important to us at 506 that we give voters politically relevant reasons to elect our pixels instead of someone else’s.

At 506, we are shooting for substance. Political substance.

So I’d like to share with you what our platform looks like, then offer my opinion on which party’s platform (as far as I can tell) is most worth supporting. Because we at 506 will have to cast our votes for some other party on the 25th, and we all have to cast our vote for one of the current Top 5.

In my Party Announcement article, I spent a wee bit of time discussing the core principles of 506. These will be reflected in what kind of political party we are, and they will guide us as we determine where our votes will be cast until we can vote ourselves into Congress.

Core Value: eUSA First
We created our party for the good of eUSA. Yes, we also have internal interests, but we truly believe that what we want for ourselves is what you also want for yourself and that it is best for the country if we have it. Nobody wants to have his or her political voice muted. All of that to say that we view ourselves as an asset to eUSA, and eUSA is our cause. We want to see our military units - all of them - organized, informed, strengthened, coordinated, and fighting as one. And we want eUSA’s military might to be seen as an asset to our allies.

When it comes to congress, politicians, and laws, there are only a few ways to impact these ideals. Donation laws, MU-support programs, coordination policies, and loyalty to foreign policy are the big items. It’s particularly important, in our view, how congress members behave toward foreign policy-makers when the foreign policy is not set according to their wishes. There is a huge difference between dissent and mutiny. From my perspective, here is a ranking of how each party stacks up with respect to an eUSA-First mentality.

1: tied : USWP and Feds
3: WTP
4: SFP
5: BSP

Core Value: Community
We also created 506 because we are a bunch of people who have enjoyed one another’s company for many years, and have never been able to share a political home. We realized that what we enjoy most about this game is one another. We look forward to our daily interactions, and we rejoice when someone new becomes another cherished member of our tribe. Community really is a core value. All of us have belonged to other parties at one time or another, including each one of the current Top 5. We’ve been around. And so we also have a decent sense of how the other parties stack impact the eUSA community in a positive or negative way. But I’ll get to my rankings in a minute.

First, I’d like to suggest a few ways that congress can impact the community. For starters, it seems unbelievable that entire terms of congress go by without a Speaker's Word publication. We believe that all eUSA citizens deserve to be kept “in the loop”; not everyone clicks into the forum to find out the latest on the “Dipping Our Thighs In The Water Act”, or whatever. Yes this is a real thing. And the fact that you just heard about it for the first time proves my point. At 506, we believe in an informed public, so we will hold ourselves and our Speaker to a high standard for keeping public congress business before the public. We commend current CP CG for his commitment to social programs, but we think there is a lot more that can be done to enhance the community-first mindset rather than just dole out goodies.

Finally, it is also important that prominent representatives of a party conduct themselves with dignity and decorum. When we see partisan wars being waged by out-of-control and power-sick representatives, we see that as a harm to our community.

Now let’s rank the parties on this second of our core values, Community.

1: SFP
2: USWP
3: Feds
5: tied : BSP and WTP

Core Value: Politics Matter
One of the key mechanisms this game provides for impacting the greatness of our country is Congress. Furthermore, eUSA has developed a meta-congress designed to raise our game even higher. 506 wants to see congresspeople elected who will participate in discussions and votes, who will fight for the preservation of meta-congress and the forum, and who will avoid distracting and frivolous actions which frustrate those who signed on to do some srs bzns. 506 Congresspeople, once we crack the T5, will be asked to achieve 100% attendance, participation, and cooperation in all congress business, and will be held to a high standard when it comes to enacting policies that are good for eUSA.

But there will not be any 506 Congressspeople in congress this month. So I’m going to rank the other T5 parties with respect to political decorum and participation.

1: Feds
2: USWP
3: SFP
4: WTP
5: BSP

Core Value: Bot-Free-Living
There is little to say here that I haven’t already said. I am aware that there are bots in this game. I am aware that there aren’t supposed to be. I am aware that there is a HUGE difference between a bot that is running a fight script and a bot that is used to impact an election. I am willing to turn a blind eye about war bots. I am not willing to do so when it comes to political bots. And so when I see bots in parties, especially parties that have decried bots in parties, I get frustrated. Whatever. All I can do is make sure my party is bot-free, and 506 has clearly done so. Let’s rank the other parties on their anti-bot performance.

1: SFP
2: BSP
3: tied : Feds and USWP
5: WTP

Core Value: Disruptivism
Let’s understand what we mean here. We are opposed to the status quo. But not just because we believe that different is always better. We oppose this status quo because we believe that it is possible to do all of these political and cultural things better than they are currently being done. We also believe that the game is at its best when things are happening. eLife should not be static, this is a GAME. It needs to be played, so we at 506 want to see creativity, energy, and an "edge".

There are also some things going on right now that are just wrong. They need to be disrupted. You'll see.

The bottom line is that we stand for positive disruption. Let's rank the parties accordingly.

1: SFP
2: USWP
3: Feds
4: BSP
5: WTP

Ok, so now that we've surveyed the political landscape, let's summarize. Then I'll suggest where 506 thinks your vote for congress is best spent.

While I do not think any one of the current Top 5 parties is doing things as well as I expect 506 will do them, I can say that there are some key areas where some of those parties shine.

On the 25th, as always, we cast our vote for one of 5 parties. We do so in hopes that their congresspeople might make the eUSA we live in more like the eUSA we want to live in.

If you share our vision of eUSA, one with a strong and stable international presence, a stable and exciting interior, a welcoming and engaging community, a fair and compelling political environment, and a sandbox wherein you can build a sandcastle too, then we at 506 believe there are three viable choices for you to cast your vote.

Vote For:
The Federalist Party,
The United States Workers Party,
The Socialist Freedom Party

Those are not listed in any particular order. Any one of those party’s slate of candidates will serve our priorities and goals in a reasonably acceptable manner. And let’s look forward to February 25th when we hope to be asking for your vote for a 506 caucus.

You may now reactivate your AF.
