Mine is bigger than yours (Updated)
Septuagenarian
First, my apologies if this makes your head hurt : )
All data for this was taken from the egov report for eDay 1,778 at 22:00 eRepTime
A recent trend in the eUK media is for the bigger military units to proclaim “Our Unit is Number 1!!!!” in much the same way that little boys make comparisons of their physique.
On the surface the numbers paint a picture that the people in unit x are better than those in unit y because overall the unit has done more damage. However we really need to take a closer look.
For the day in question we have
Clearly showing TUP family as the unit with most damage and implying that the TUP family are the best fighters. Are they? Lets take two fictitious units A and B, in A the fighters have done 10 damage each and in B the fighters have done 100 damage each. Would you say that A is a better unit than B? Clearly not, but if A has 100 fighters and B has 5 then the total damage for A will be 1,000 and for B, 500. On the basis that eGov reports A will be in number 1 and B number 2.
We've seen that the eGov stats can paint a false picture of the fighters in any given unit so why are the top 5 where they are and which units really do have the best fighters in them? To find that we have to add the number of citizens in each unit into the mix. Now if we take the damage and divide it by the citizens we get a much different picture.
There isn't a single unit in the top 5 total damage that appears in the top 5 influence per citizen.
Maybe this isn't the number we should be looking at because you can see that 3 of the top 5 are single soldier MUs. While their individual achievements are admirable a single soldier isn't really a MU. Lets take the real life SAS as a guide, a SAS unit has 4 people in it so I'm discounting any unit with less than 4 people in it. This give the final eUK MU ranking below, I've left the initial position in so you can see the differences.
So let's cheer Vanguard as the real number 1 and remember the big MUs are only blowing their own trumpet so people don't realise how mediocre they are

UPDATE
For those that said influence per fighter was the correct number, I've done an update. Doesn't change a lot really.

WEYHEY!!! Nice article sir o7
And yes, join us, we are awesome...and we love spam.
Numbers and figures ARRRGGGHHHHHH. I think the best stats would be active fighters and then damage -
http://egov4you.info/units/overview
So TUP family has 156 citizens but only 87 fighters that day the stats were recorded. But that would take more stats and working out and im just here for the free booze and naked chics.
Great article though O7
I'm here for free chicks and naked booze \o/
btw, big vote!
Well done Vanguard o7
Within the context of eRepublik where damage means more than activity and where MUs are ranked on kills/damage then yes, the one that does the most is the "best".
As for TUP "implying" they're the best fighters because they did the most damage, do you have a source on where they implied they were the best fighters?
Nice Article (voted). But you'd be better to take Fighters/Influence rather than Citizens/Influence. This would give a true reflection of best MU for dmg per active fighter. Stats can always be manipulated to make someone always look better than another 🙂
However our biggest issue is that we are Rank 30 in the all nations dmg chart....
Oh wow, i totally wasn't even expecting Vanguard to be mentionned.
Wooho! thanks ; D

*Brofists Vanguard!*
@Beta the title of this article http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/tup-family-number-1-mu-of-uk-2132313/1/20
Nice to see the update double voted o/
Of course thats only one day stats though 😛
Yesterday Vanguards figure was 1.5 million/fighter, Prinny 1.3 million/fighter.
Would be really cool to see this table after a week or so (perhaps even a month)
End of the day Gentlemen and Ladies is what BaskB said...were still raked 30th for damage and its a shame that doesnt look likely to improve. On the plus side we have some great MU's \o/
Almost every way to present statistics give a different image. For TUP Family the importance of making an article is to write who in what division of TUP Family performed best in activity (not in damage) in a week. Winners get some Q7 weapons. That weekly article is also to promote TUP Family. And for that purpose the most damage done by a military unit was placed. I was surprised about that output, most times nowadays British Bulldogs makes the most damage per military unit.
Nowhere in that article is said that TUP Family members are the best fighters. Nowhere in that article is said that TUP Family is the best military unit either.
Maybe this quote is interesting: "Although we struggle for being the strongest military unit we are all united in fighting for the interest of our nation." So indeed most important is to do as much damage possible (and in correct battles). For that we need to work together, the damage per fighter not that important.
Voted any way.
It's going to be distorted whatever way you look at it. For example, Prinny Squad only has 1 fighter that did 4.5 million. What does that prove in your "findings"? If the influence per person/fighter is lower, it generally means that MU contains a lot more new citizens and those who don't do a lot of influence.
You could provide better statistics tbh. You're nit picking because you have nothing better to do. Having all of it added up makes no sense. There are four divisions now, not one.
I just did 12 mil in a battle for Serbia. So FNRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
at the end of the day TUP has more fighters and so does the most damage. If you dont like it, too bad. Suck it up.
Very nice article, definitely a much fairer way to look at the numbers (if your aim is to award a value to an MUs individual members in terms of overall influence contributed).
If you'd want to take it one step further (in focussing on the individual achievement of MU members) you'd have to show a top 5 per division really. Sure, someone in div 4 will earn his or her side more points, but that doesn't mean that someone trying really hard in div 2 can't make a difference...
Good article, I like the figures this way (per fighter). Voted!
Dental Corps is by far the best. We don't need stats to tell us that.
Howto guide to get damage per fighter the highest:
Kick out all but the 5 strongest active fighters and you have the highest damage per fighter for your MU and maybe the best for UK.
I do not think it would be a good for UK. (;
When you have lots of members your going to get a very large range of influence from the div 1 who got 1 kill to the div 4 with 300 as Niemand said if tup family were to kick everyone except their top 5 then TUP family would be top per fighter. I joined as they had the most active captains back when that was an issue and they didn't demand my time at all. Even though it's called TUP Family, Family is the important word.
Way i look at this is unless you split Divisions you can't tell, and some of the best unit's for overall influence have more inactive players the smaller unit's have higher percentage of active players, focusing on quality instead of quantity.
Imperial Atlas, carrying the burden together, equally.
i'm looking at this, and im like meh. why does dpp matter for a unit? total damage is what actually counts, vanguard is not the best military unit
:3
nicely done

To be honest, no unit is inheritantly better than another - although there are some truely poor ones out there. Since the ratios of each division within each MU is often different, it is impossible to come up with a concrete method of messuring which is performing best. A MU with a large % of Division 4 fighters will appear to out perform an unit with a higer ratio of Division 1....
Since some units do planned strikes, on any given day the "best" unit can vary...
Great article Sexy.
How on earth do we out damage Bulldogs? They must be spending tons of money on companies and raws etc to supply everyone with loads of Q7s every day - we don't run communes, though you get given free stuff by everyone if you ask for help, and we have a daily food scheme.

Really great article, Sexygenarian.
Well done, Vanguard. I'm also very impressed with the BEF's scores across the board.
Cracking article with age comes wisdom

@Niemand
I think the clue could perhaps be in the title of that article "TUP Family number 1 MU of UK"
dpp isn't useful lol
Sorry legion take on new people and help train them up
A proper analysis should take into account the Strength of each of the fighters, the number of people who actually fight, and other variables such as the "wealth" of each fighter.
You would have to consider how you take into consideration things like gold buying - do you frown on that or not? I think the proper gauge should be how well each unit helps their fighters (particularly lower level ones) to increase their damage.
I would also like to point out that I have a larger credit card than anybody here, and so I could outfight anybody here if I wanted to. So there.
