[Derp4PotUS] Are We Finished Yet?

Day 4,794, 09:52 Published in USA USA by Derphoof

Everyone has a story.

What’s your story?
What’s the story of our country?
Are we done telling that story?

You see, a few times, I thought I was done with my story.

When I started a Military Coup with the Broforce, six years ago, I thought that was the end.
When I had a successful six month term in 2017, I thought that was the end.
When I had an absent term in 2019, I figured that too was the end.

Yet, I keep writing new chapters in my story. The latest is the return of eNPR. I hope the next chapter is another term as PotUS. Something keeps drawing me back, to keep adding onto my story.

Paul mentioned it in his endorsement article, which I am deeply appreciative of. In his article, it was the community and the players that keep you drawn into the game. And yes, this is true. I love hanging out with you magnificent b******s. You all manage to make this game more interesting than it has any right to be.

Together, as citizens, we write the history of this country.

And our story isn’t finished yet.

I’ve often heard many things about our country. Some things have been true, and others have been blatantly false. Some eternal truths have persisted, however.

The USA is divided.
The USA is too stuck in its ways.
The USA is hoarding, not helping.

So, why don’t we write a new chapter in that story? We’re coming upon one of the greatest changes in eAmerican, if not eRepublik history. Within the next few months, we are on track to be accepted into the Asteria alliance. This represents a seismic shift in where we are as a country, and how much the game has changed.

How many people here in 2010, 2015, or even 2019 would have predicted a USA-Serbia alliance? Many would’ve said you were crazy. But, here we are.

We wrote a new chapter.

Let’s not stop there.

Today in Congress, we are voting on proposal for a simple but radical change in our country. Arrden put forth the original text, and I worked with him and other parties to create a compromise solution. A compromise for a change in how Congress operates. For once, Congresspeople won’t have to visit the offsite forum, if they want to vote. Congress is on track to approve the ability to vote in-game on meta matters.

For anyone who’s been around for a while, you know this is a big change in a system adverse to it.

And that’s what the next chapter in eUS History should be about. Changes in how we play the game. We need to adapt, in different ways, to the way the game is played today.

I’m hoping to write the first paragraph in that new chapter, on January 5th.

Instead of hoarding wealth, we must increase spending.
Instead of hiding numbers, we must be open and transparent.
Instead of stoking division, we must find common ground.

Change is hard, and many have promised it in the past. Sometimes, it even comes from unexpected places. I remember when we were in the throes of the dictatorship. A defensive maneuver designed to keep people from wasting our time and resources, and to keep any malcontents at bay.

And yes, I remember the horror that many had when someone came along truly intent on changing how we played. It wasn’t just that someone was running on that platform, but that it was an established figure who rose to take that stand.

When Gnilraps did that, it was nothing short of revolutionary. Nowadays, you’d be hard pressed to find some of the same people singing his praises. Though the dictatorship stood in law for some time, he showed there were many citizens fed up with it, looking for change.

Change often comes from somewhere you’d least expect it, and I know that some people don’t expect me to make those changes.

But we all keep writing new chapters in our story.

The latest story that we’ve written is not what we’ll go out with.

We need a new chapter, starting January 5th.
